Ok, having 7 words written on the palm of your hand is not at ALL comparable to having your ENTIRE speech scrolling before you, and stumbling through speeches when TelePrompter is not there.

Really Mark? Are you really comparing a teleprompter to a few keywords/thoughts on a hand or even a note card?

A teleprompter where Obama reads the entire speech from, even mispronouncing words such as CORPSMAN, is not the same as having a few keywords written down.

That is a real stretch, even for you Mark, having to defend the failure that is Obama at any cost.

Mark, there is a HUGE, let me repeat HUGE, difference between reading an entire speech from a TelePrompter and glancing at a some notes during a speech. Really!

He uses TelePrompters during presidential press conferences. He used a TelePrompter when giving a few words at a school. He reads from a TelePrompter when ordering dinner for crying out loud!

Let's see... on two occasions last week, President Obama appeared before a live (and in at least one case less-than-friendly) audience and engaged in completely unscripted dialog. In both cases, the consensus of those who watched (including some who sparred verbally with him) is that he is very good at spontaneous give-and-take. So, Sarah Palin's claim that Obama "leads from a TelePrompTer" is provably false, and was in fact proven false days before her speech to the teabaggers. So... was she ignorant of this fact? Or do facts simply not matter to her?

a) she thinks reading from teleprompters (a sript visible in electronic form) are not OK - but reading from a hard-copy script is somehow different ??
b) she needs a telepromter - er - a palm-prompter (note written on her skin) to remind her of 3 current day basic issues?
c) If she can't trust her memory to recall 3 of the most basic current issues - why would anyone trust her to recall - much less deal with - the complex reality of waaaay more than 3 issues faced every day inthe oval office!!!

There is a huge difference between Obama reading all of his statements verbatim from a teleprompter and Palin's having several words on her palm as reminders for general topics to be covered. It makes me wonder if he is capable of uttering any valid thoughts and ideas on his own.

There's an important lesson to be learned here and it is this - Now we know that Republicans also suck at haiku.

What's the big deal using a couple of words for reminder notes. If you noticed, the chosen one can not have a coherent thought if it is not on a telepromter.

So we read a speech written on paper versus a Teleprompter and we complain about the guy reading the Teleprompter. Duh! As far as writing on her palm, you have to hand it to Sarah, she had a good grip on what she was going to say.

I would love sometime to see a copy of the speech as written to compare it to the convoluted sentences, if they can be called that, which come out of her mouth. I find it very difficult to follow what she says due to the rambling nature of her verbal style.

Great issues Sarah. Energy costs are still harming the American people particularly those in the middle to lower class. Gas remains stuck at $3.00 per gallon still very high considering crude oil prices on the futures market. Taxes still high on everything as well. Business too. They just pass it onto the consumer which means we pay for it as well. And lift the spirits of the American people---that's going to be tough since we are getting rammed with a huge deficit, lower valued dollar, healthcare, etc... But thanks for thinking of us.

It appears that on her palm notes that Governor Palin scratched out "budget" and replaced it with "tax" so she could focus on tax cuts as a talking point, which are far more popular to an audience than budget cuts. The harsh reality is that there is no way to balance the federal budget by just eliminating waste, fraud and inefficiency. Several months ago Governor Palin lambasted President O'Bama regarding his plans for socialized health care and the prospect of "death panels". Well, we already provide socialized health care for the most costly segments of society - the elderly, disabled and the poor. Right now over 23% of all federal spending is for Medicare and Medicaid, and this percentage continues to grow faster than all other government programs. Even though federal health care spending has been a problem for years, politicians of both parties have continued to ignore this problem. In fact, instead of cutting spending, they did the exact opposite - President George W. Bush and a large number of Republicans in Congress passed the largest expansion of entitlement spending since Lyndon Johnson, the Medicare Prescription Drug Act, which now threatens the financial health of our nation. Bottom line - Governor Palin and the Republicans are just as guilty for the growth of welfare state of the Democrats. If people seriously want smaller government, the Republicans are not the solution, but are part of the problem. Time to consider a third party, of which the Libertarian Party may offer the best solution to reducing the size and responsibility of government.

Kinda like the difference between a name tag and your name written on the inside of your underwear.

In both HS & College speech courses, we learned to use noted keywords to recall specific points we wanted to make. Usually these were to be written on index cards. We were not allowed to have our whole speech written in front of us, because the instructors did not want us to just stand there reading it. While writing notes on her hand may not have been the best means of going about this practice, it isn't as horrible as is being made out. Nor is reading from the TelePrompTer (though one should know how to pronounce the words beforehand). Everyone needs to step back & take a deep breath.

However, after juicing the tea baggers for $115k, you'd think she would have been better prepared.

So the funny part is this is Obama's mortal enemy. He is so poor at giving speaches that have not been written, in detail for him, so poor with policy, so poor with going back on his own words that they compare him to Palin. He has been so good at his job the media spends their time comparing him to Palin. If Obama was any sharper then her no one would waste their time but he has proven that he is simply a politician with no real insight, no leadership skills what so ever and no ability to raise his status above Palin's. Palin gave an extemporaneous 40 minute speech on a number of complex issues where everyone understood what she was talking about, delivered w/o a teleprompter- and we are talking about 6 words on her hand?

Obama - on the other hand (pun intended) has delivered, lectured and pontificated to us countless times, using tens of thousands of words in the last year on one subject- Health Care-including a nationally televised, staged, and completely scripted speech to a joint session of congress...he had been given an hour of network TV time to sell his nonsense plan.... and now, despite all of this, we are to believe that his only fault is that he didn't communicate clearly enough, that we are all too stupid and dull to have understood the lecture from the professor in chief?

I guess you heard that speech at the middle school in class. Oh you didn't? Then I guess it wasn't just for Middle schoolers huh?

I'll bet this is how she got through those 87 colleges she attended before receiving a degree. Using notes, cards, a speech triple spaced, and teleprompters have all be used by a wide variety of people, including the presidents. I have NEVER heard or seen one with crib notes on their hand. Kate you are right and wrong. No politician is expected to memorize a speech. Teleprompters are used by anyone/everyone giving a long speech to insure they make all the points planned.

However, no politician should have to have "palm notes" on the major issues/topics the country is facing. This is evidence that Palin doesn't have a clue about what the issues for the country are. Budget? Taxes? Why in the world would she NEED to write these down? Maybe because she's clueless!

Sarah Palin is mentioned as a potential presidential candidate. If she is nominated and wins the election she, like Obama, would need the answers to many difficult problems without answers on her palm. I wish someone would ask her questions such as
What is the current national debt ( in trillions) and the projected budget deficit (in billions)?
What is one percent of one trillion? (if she fails, can she be our president?)
What is the average rate of interest the govt. pays on our national debt? How much is that in billions? What percentage of the deficit would that be?
Do you agree or disagree that the interest on the debt is compounded since the govt continues to operate on deficits,
What happened to the "surplus as far as the eye can see " that Clinton left when he was succeeded by Bush?

All this bickering over teleprompter vs notes written on a hand. Is it any wonder that nothing gets done on the Hill and our legislators are standing firmly divided by the partisan wall?! Look at the senseless use of time and energy we are willing to put into this meaningless debate each writer espousing his/her partisan colored view.
