The Swamp

by Mark Silva

In life, there is the short-term view.

And the long-range view.

For now, the No. 1 problem facing the United States is the lack of jobs -- so say 31 percent of Americans surveyed.

Only 8 percent tell the Gallup Poll that the federal deficit is the big problem.

But 25 years from now: That's a different story.

The deficit will be the biggest problem, according to 14 percent of those surveyed. Unemployment, most believe, will fall to the end of the line.

Of course, the longer unemployment lasts today, the worse the deficit will be tomorrow. That's the really big picture.

It's kind of funny that the ones (Republicans) who are crying about the deficit the loudest are also the ones (Republicans) who are responsible for at least 3/4 of all of the deficit spending that has occured in this country that last 30-35 years.

REPUBLICAN DEFICIT HYPOCRISY

I thought that the #1 problem facing America, according to conservatives and Republicans, is that there aren't enough public displays of the Ten Commandments outside court houses and inside school classrooms...

The REPUBLICAN party: The common thread is always "Hypocrisy"

The thread that runs through all of the problems President Obama has encountered with the Republican Party is HYPOCRISY. The Democrats need to be relentless in exposing Republican fear mongering, obstruction, delay, and yes hypocrisy. There is an endless supply of examples......

>> They used to be for PAYGO, now they are against it.

>> They had no issues with FBI mirandizing terrorist during the Bush administration, now they are having a cow about it.

>> They criticized the stimulus and then go to ribbon cuttings for projects funded by the stimulus om their districts.

>> They accused Judge Sonia Sotomayor of being an activist judge. But have no problem with the recent ruling by activist conservative justices that will endanger our elections.

>> They used to be for a bipartisan commission to look for ways to reduce the deficit. Now they are against it.

>> Some Republicans used to be for cap and trade. Now they are against it.

>> The Bush administration came into office with a surplus and left with a staggering deficit because of two tax cuts that were not paid for, Medicare Part D not paid for, two wars paid for using supplementals or budget tricks, a devastating recession and financial meltdown. Now they criticize Pres Obama for increasing the deficit to save the economy.

>> They used to want "up or down" votes. Now they have taken abuse of the filibuster to new heights. They have made the senate dysfunctional requiring 60 votes for everything.

>> When they had the majority they did nothing about healthcare reform. Now that this is a major initiative of the Obama administration, they are trying to block it.

>> They say they are aginst earmarks and pork. But they don’t like the idea of having to publicly identify earmark requests for the American people.

>> During the Bush administration, it was unpatriotic to criticize the president when he was out of the country. Now it’s fine to criticize Presidnet Obama when he travels abroad.

>> When they were in the majority, they looked the other way and did not enforce financial regulations. Now they are against any meaning financial regulatory reform. They prefer the status quo.

The Republican "Party of No" and "Whatever It Is I’m Against It" must be exposed. The American people need to know who is really working for them.

WAIT I THOUGHT #1 WAS HEALTH CARE, AND IMMIGRATION, AND GLOBAL WARMING, AND GAYS IN THE MILITARY, AND THE KSM NYC TRIAL, AND . . . . OH WELL ; )

So you are of the camp that believes that workers work for the government. You believe in aristarchy, government by the elite. Therefore, when unemployment goes down and the peons return to work, they can pay off the debt that the government has burdened them with.

How nice.

The problem is: we have out of control spending by crazed liberal fanatics that have never set foot inside an economic class or studied a business cycle. They were too busy reading Nietzsche and planning how the world will be when their "superior brains" takeover the world. All of their government programs are failing and will fail. Social Security is the ultimate Ponzi scheme, but they want to continue to double down on their failed socialist ideals. The Post Office can't even deliver the mail and make a buck. You want us to believe that government run healthcare, that will continually add more and more entitlements just like Social Security, is going to save money??? It's a freakin' joke.

Nancy Pelosi is as stupid as can be. Obama lies about it saving money. The whole thing stinks with backroom deals.

But, maybe if we can get the schmucks some jobs, they will vote us back into office and payoff our drunken spending binge, and then we can start the cycle all over again. This is the Democrat plan for our future,

Talking Bumper Sticker,

Why don't you ask one of your sock-puppets what they think?

You're so unsure of your own whack-a-doodle right wing opinoin on here that you have to resort to screaming in all caps, cutting and pasting right wing "news" stories and using multilple post names to support yourself.

The number one priority right now is cleaning up all of the messes that the Bush Republicans (you) made of things from 2000-2008. That's going to take more than a year and a half to do and you know that better than anyone on here does.

Trickled On HoHoHo,

Over the past 30 years, the GOP has held the White House for 20 of those years.

From your article, "Medicare Prescription Drug Plan is the most fiscally irresponsible piece of legislation since the 1960s." What do you think that piece of legislation was in the 60's? Medicare!!! A program passed by a democrat president with a large majority in Congress. Medicare, whose tax rate has quadrupled in its lifetime. It's the entitlements (Social Security and Medicare) that are bankrupting this country. And what do you kool-aid drinkers want to do - add another entitlement.

"They (the GOP) used to be for PAYGO, now they are against it." When have the dems used it since taking over Congress in 2007? Nancy said Paygo would be the way money is spent with her in charge.

Nice job with a $220 billion deficit in the month of February. How does the democratic version of PayGo work?

And then you whine about Aliases - As Speaker Dimwit would say "Poor Baby".

Poser Terri,

You mean the wildly successful economic stimulus bill that the Dems passed last Feb that saved the economy from going into a full blown Bush depression?

That was money well spent Poser, if you don't believe me then just ask these guys.

* Republican Senate Candidate Rep. Mike Castle Takes Credit For Over $5 Million In Stimulus Funds He Voted To Kill

* In KY, Republican Mitch McConnell Brags About Stimulus Projects, Requests More Money; In DC, McConnell Says Stimulus Should End

Republicans Who Opposed The Stimulus Continue To Pan It As A ‘Failure,’ While Also Taking Credit For Its Success

* Republican Jindal Tours Louisiana Attacking ‘Washington Spending’ While Handing Out Jumbo-Sized Stimulus Checks. Jindal takes credit for stimulus, presents constituents with jumbo-sized stimulus check.

* Republican Rep. Shuster Bashes The Stimulus As A Failure While Taking Credit For Its Success

* Republicans Who Opposed The Stimulus Line Up To Criticize It Publicly, Request More Money Privately

* Republican Kit Bond Touts Effects Of Stimulus Bill He Voted Against

* All In A Day’s Work: Republican Rep. Kingston Smears The Stimulus On TV, Takes Credit For Stimulus Jobs In His District

The Republicans not interested in productive policy, Terri, they are only interested in sabotaging President Obama's agenda. The Repugs are only more than happy to continue to drive the economy into a ditch if they think it will keep them help them get elected in some way.

THERE IS ONLY ONE BOBBY MOBBIE. TRICKLE HHH, LET'S HOPE THERE'S ONLY ONE OF YOU ; )

At least 8 MILLION jobs, that the Bush&Cheney are admitting to, have been lost during the their disastrous administrations. Some morons on the Right do not want us to remind our nation of the Incompetence and Malfeasance of the two previously, failed administrations, but there is no avoiding it. It is history, boys and girls of the Incompetent Party and you know you should not try to revise history. It will only make you look that much more pathetic.
Given that backdrop, there are those on the Right that are clamoring like chickens, when a fox enters the coop. They hysterically blame it on President Obama and Vice-President Biden, that they aren't creating enough jobs. What a false and hypocritical accusation !! What a mean-spirited and malicious campaign they wage against our President, who has only been in Office, a year, doing incredible things against great forces in opposition. The men and women, boys and girls of the Republican-Libertarian-T.Bagger Party have embarrassed America, their once-great Party and, of course themselves, but that doesn't seem to matter to them. They want President Obama to meet his " Waterloo " !! They want America to fail, so they can once again, get into power and abuse it, like they did with Bush&Cheney. I do not think America is ready for another day of the Incompetence, Mean-spiritedness of that crew, any time soon !! Help President Obama enact healthcare reform, so America will not meet her economic " Waterloo " !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

HERE'S WHAT YOU GET FROM THE LOONY LEFT . . .
Pelosi's Republic
The House Speaker says health care reform will finally allow artists to focus on being unemployed, comfortably.
-
From Rachel Maddow's show last night, here's a jaw-dropper from the woman who brought you, "We have to pass the bill, so you can find out what's in it." As I keep saying, the Democratic message mavens are working overtime, apparently to woo the all-important swing vote in Williamsburg to health care:
-
"Think of an economy where people could be an artist or a photographer or a writer without worrying about keeping their day job in order to have health insurance."
-
If they insist on creating a generation unable to care for itself up to and past the ripe old age of 26 by incentivizing "children"—and I use to term loosely— to stay on parent's health insurance policies until they're turning the corner from Clearasil to Botox, there will be fewer educated, able-bodied people who ever learn to take care of themselves.
-
If they insist on creating a generation incentivized to "move out of the money-making industry" entirely and "into the helping industry," as Michelle Obama put it, with student loans forgiven by government if and only if students stay away from icky, profit-making industries, there will be fewer people making a profit.
-
These are the workers—and I may soon be using that term loosely— upon whom liberal Boomer Pelosi must rely to pay her Social Security through their working years. The ratio of workers to retirees has already shrunk from 41:1 in 1942 to 3.3:1 in the mid-2000s, and is expected to dip into to 2:1 in the next decades. Does Pelosi really want one or more of those young people supporting each worker to be a really keen charcoal sketch artist whose earning potential went as thoroughly unrecognized as his genius?

Trickled On HoHoHo,

You quote seven GOP Politicians. How's that deficit spending caused by the Stimulus working out for the millions of unemployed (of which you are one)?

DUMP TRUCK FITZ,

Just yanking numbers from you back side to make your case. Eight million jobs losts during the Bush-Cheney years? What loon source is that from?

The chart still says it all.

Is Trickled On your son?

Average yearly federal Deficits the last 7 years the Republicans controlled Congress--$100 billion a year.
Average yearly federal deficits since the Democrats (including then-Senator Obama) took control of Congress--$1 trillion a year.

The Big Lie of Health Care Reform
One-Sixth of the US Economy is threatened with a takeover by the Federal Government on the erroneous rationale that "Tens of millions of people in the US are without health care insurance, and therefore are being denied access to adequate health care." Unjust! Unfair!
-
This is, of course, an absolute lie. And nor do some large number of people "die every day from lack of health insurance coverage." That too is a lie.
-
Access to the health care providers (professional services) and medicine (products) of the best health care system in the world is already universal and available to every US Citizen, legal resident, illegal alien, prisoner, detainee, or visitor - regardless of whether anyone is covered by any insurance policy or health plan. For heaven's sake, even the illegal aliens have figured out that anyone who walks into an Emergency Room is required by law (EMTALA) to be treated, regardless of the person's ability to pay.
-
The Big Lie: Without health care insurance, there is no access to health care.

Another umpteen trillion in debt and the smartest man EVER to occupy the Whitehouse said unemployment would not EVER go over 8%. How out of touch is the Teleprompter Kid? But of course when his policies of massive spending are NOT working he wants to throw more money at his failures.

RUT ROWWWWW . . .
More Democrats come out against health care bill
March 12, 2010 7:25 p.m. EST
House Democratic leaders need at least 216 of their party's 253 members to vote in favor of the health care legislation.
Washington (CNN) -- As House Democratic leaders advised their members Friday to prepare for a legislative battle over health care that could stretch through next weekend, four additional rank-and-file Democrats have come out against the Obama administration's signature domestic priority.
-
Reps. Ben Chandler of Kentucky, Luiz Gutierrez of Illinois, Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin of South Dakota and Heath Shuler of North Carolina say they will vote against their party's health care plan, which may be headed to a final vote late next week.
-
http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/03/12/democrats.against.health.care/

Since Obama has taken office America has lost 4.3 million jobs. Since Obama has taken office over 100,000 federal jobs have been added. Since Obama has taken office we have had a one-year and a one-month record deficit. And 2010 is on track to beat the numbers from 2009. Since Obama has taken office the national unemployment rate has gone up four points and in Illinois a little over six points. Since Obama has taken office his approval rating has fallen faster and farther downward than any president before him. Obama has surrounded himself with the fewest appointments that have actual real world business experience (less than 8%) than any other president in our history.
