So President Barack Obama finally sat down with FOX.
The president spoke at length about his healthcare plans, in an interview aired last night on FOX News Channel's Special Report with Bret Baier.
But FOX's Baier also got a few words of his own in -- in a program that drew more viewers than even Glenn Beck could corral last night.
"The interruptions were unusual, because most news organizations... tend to defer to the office of the president in matters of conversational decorum,'' a rival cable news network MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell said. "Also, it is just impossible to imagine anyone from FOX interrupting former President Bush or Vice President Cheney in the manner'' that Baier did with Obama last night.
"The interrupt-a-thon,'' Newsweek's Katie Connolly called it.
"Baier-ly substantive,'' the Washington Post's Jonathan Capehart called the interview.
"Trying to get the most for our buck here,'' Baier told Obama of his interruptions, which Obama downplayed as the news host just doing his job.
FOX, for its part, simply billed it as what it was: an Exclusive.
The Special Report with Obama averaged nearly 3 million viewers, beating FOX's Glenn Beck for the night and finishing second to The O'Reilly Factor. It marked Baier's 8th highest-rated night since he debuted as host in January 2009, according to Nielsen Media Research, which counted 2.9 million viewers for Baier's show, 2.45 milllion for Beck's show and 3.65 million for Bill O'Reilly's show -- the top-three programs on cable news networks for the night.
Here's their talk:

Awwww, the poor widdle prezzie and his Demented Band of Media Loons are crying over the Fox interview. Seems to me in 2004, Tim Russert cut off President Bush quite a bit during their one-on-one. I also seem to recall a presidential press conference with Bush in which the members of the Corrupt Media kept interrupting Bush while he was trying to answer their jacked questions.
The real issue here is that is THE FIRST interview that actually challenged Obimbo to answer the questions and then he never really did answer them! So far, all of the interviews of Obimbo, even the pressers, have been quaint little affairs in which the media acts like first graders on the first day of school! Sheesh, who remembers the "tough" question former Tribune weakling and current NY Times buffoon Jeff "Zany" Zeleny asked Obimbo at a press conference: "During these first 100 days, what has surprised you the most about
this office? Enchanted you the most from serving in this office?
Humbled you the most? And troubled you the most?"
NOW, THAT is the type of questioning Obimbo is used to and the kind of questions Silva and the rest of the Corrupt Media ask the prez. I mean, this poor excuse of a president can't even speak to a bunch of 8 year-old without his TelePrompter telling what to say!
The next question is will the Swamp censors let this item run??

This was an historic interview if only because it's the first interview where the press didn't fawn, fall over and allow Obama to spew as much of his usual lies and nonsense, such as how the health "reform" bill will help with the "recent earthquake in Hawaii." Of course, there hasn't been an earthquake there since 1975. Obama just makes it up as he goes along. He's never been a real president, he just plays one on TV.

Geez Mark, maybe if the Prez hadn't gone since last July without holding a real, honest-to-goodness, no-holds, sans teleprompter news conference it might have been different. Mr. Obama has gone out of his way to avoid Fox which has a larger overall audience with its line up from 4-10 p.m. every weekday than all other cable news outlets combined. He was wise finally giving in at this juncture in the healthcare battle. Tossing out clowns like Elmer Gantry wannabee Glen Beck and the abrasive, ego maniac Bill O'Reilly, Fox has better journalists than CNN and MSNBC in my estimation - having worked in the business more than 40 years and in markets the size of St. Louis and Dallas. And there are few journalists left at the formerly Big 3 Networks worth crowing about. Ed Murrow and co. must be laughing in their graves at what represents news these days. And, in it's lust for readers, are purists like you happy with the Tribune's product? I doubt it.

Obama to Baier: I am the Lecturer in Chief; do not interrupt. I don't answer questions; I just give lengthy platitudes and talking points. Did you expect the truth?
Obama is a joke. He can't stand having someone ask him a tough question.

Say Kyle,
You may want to broaden your sources of information. The Hawaiian earthquake in question was Oct. 15, 2006....

And if you dont like that source, the US Geological Survey may help you.
Or maybe you'd prefer FOX News' account of Bush's '06 disaster declaration:

I didn't think Obama would ever let himself be interviewed by FOX News! After all the snarky remarks on Fox N. network he made not too long ago ..... but wait... Ooohhh!!!--- I see now why???! ---- He's hurting for "More Publicity!!!... and by hook or by crook he's gonna go after that !!! Agree!!! ... that wasn't hard to figure out!
Yes!... being interrupted??? So, obviously the table is turned on him! My,my... Bush had it worst!!! did he go like--- a big cry-baby blasting off a major network???...'don't think so! He had no time for that.

Everyone knows if you ask Obama a question it takes about 10 minutes for him to answer because he deliberately slows his speech and drags out an answer. His professor act didn't work this time.

Fixed News Channel proves once again that they have more in common with the fake World Wrestling Federation than an actual news outlet.
Pres Obama was very gracious to even go on the Republican propaganda TrashTV channel. Anyone with half a brain knows the radical right wing political views espoused by Faux are crazy and dont work, and the fact that Pres Obama would even entertain their silly little notions about how the world works takes more patience than I would have with those nutjobs.

Oh Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark. First of all, sorry to inform you, Mark, but Media Matters has no, zero, credibility, except for the Loons on the Left and the Leftwing Media types.
Second, are you and Media Matters really going to fuss over a few boulders on the road and about a dozen damaged buildings as an example of a disaster? The fact that Bush cited it as a federal disaster area means nothing. Just about any tornado, flood, earthquake, thunderstorm, blizzard, etc. will get an area federal disaster naming and funding.
The damaged along the Gulf Coast from Katrina goes into the hundreds of billikons, not the estimated $46 million for Hawaii's earthquake.
Now Kyle may have been wrong, but an earthquake in 2006, four years ago, is hardly recent and the magnitude of this earthquake was hardly imense. Shoot, Mark, I was in Hawaii one year ago (sort of shoots down that John D is broke, destitute and needy jargon the losers on the left have been pedaling) and outside of the bad economy, the state was just fine, beautiful, sunny and wonderful!
I think Mark should get a new title, though. How does Protector of Obimbo sound???
(Silva: It sounds stupid, like the rest of this posting. Media Matters Shmatters. The fact is there was an earthquake, which some rightwing bloggers tried to assert had not happened, which has given rise to yet another fiction about an Obama bumble. Anyone who sets the record straight on facts is good in this book. We added the FOX link for people like you who try to deny facts based on who is reporting them. Didn't hear you questioning that one. Suck it up, JD, you're wrong.)

We have a president that wants to hide and seek. And, he expects us to back his attempt to use parliamentary tricks to pass his unpopular takeover of our health care system. You don't seriously believe that Nancy Pelosi could be behind the scheme? She's as dumb as a rock.
So, he gets some tough questions and refuses to answer them, because he won't tell the American people the truth. He likes dirty tricks. That's how he got elected to his first position in office by a legal maneuver that got his opponent removed from the ballot. This is the Chicago/Obama/Emanuel Way.

The whole point of a media interview -- which the Obama lapdogs in the media seem to have forgotten -- is for there to be questions and answers. To allow Obama to filibuster for an hour is not an interview. Further, Obama's consistent "bending of facts" cannot be allowed to go unchallenged, even though they are by others in the media. "3,000 percent reduction" anyone?
Posted by: Darius | March 18, 2010 4:09 PM
So, Mark, according to Obama, the 2010 ObamaCare bill will help with a 2006 Hawaii earthquake?
You may want to broaden your sources of information. Or get busy, once again, rewriting what Obama actually said so that it makes some, minimal, sense.

What exactly was the Q&A at the Congressional Republican retreat? The Repiglicans had the opportunity to ask him any unscripted question and he schooled them. HI-Larious that you fail to mention that. You fail to because it shattered the FOX narrative that attempts to paint the President as someone who cant think on his feet and speak w/o a TelePrompter. The GOP could. Have. Asked. Him. Anything!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama's response to the question about double counting of 500 billion led me to believe that Bret Baier was interviewing Mayor Daley as the answer made no sense.
Posted by: Pat H | March 18, 2010 5:29 PM
Baier did a good job, and not the worship that BO is used to. When BO was spinning, let's call it what is lying, he called him on it. Good job by a real journalist

So, Mark, a marginal earthquake of nearly four years ago counts as recent? Since when is four years ago recent? There have been bigger disasters to hit this country since then (outside of the Obama presidency) such as severe flooding in the Midwest and Plains states a year ago. Or even the wildfires in Californina that pop up just about every year.
Probably Obama was referring to the earthquake in Chili and the resultatn tsunami that hit Hawaii, not the marginal tremblor of four years ago. Though, the fact remains his answer to the question about special deals and health care made no sense, wasn't the answer, but was a bunch of Obimbo mumbo jumbo.

Mark, you'll have to excuse the pugs in our family here. Whatever exists beyond their backyard is, in their minds, non-existant. That includes the earthquake; global warming; and how other countries operate. They sound like complete idiots when they refer to the Canadian healthcare system as socialized healthcare. Do they not think that Canadians here that filth and find it both amuzing and divisive?
I just went to a dentist up here (which is not covered by the healthcare system) a few days ago and had a top-notch visit that included a full mouth x-ray machine that was similare to a CAT scan. I never seen something so advanced before in the states. And, at the end, for my full set of X-rays, plus some old manual x-rays, plus cleaning and exam, the total cost (if I had to pay out of pocket) was $135. My private insurance picked up most and only $40 was paid out of my pocket. I hadn't seen prices like that in WI for over 25 years! By the way, this took place 1/2 from downtown Montreal.

Triple H.
Of course you would not like it Obama was asked hard questions and was not allowed to ramble on. But seeing how you actually post stuff from liberal bloggers like they were a news source you probably didn't like it. I bet you like the interview by Brian Williams. Of course you did Brian basically kiss Obama's behind and did not ask him anything tough.
sensible
You can knock off that scarecrow act from the Wizard of Oz (if I only had a brain). You mean the sham of a healthcare Summit? And how is that a news conference Mr. scarecrow.
Xcellentform
Wow really that is the first time you've seen that machine. The military was using similar equipment in the 80s when I was in the Navy. My dentist used a whole mouth machine in 2006 and when I needed a root canal the x-rays were sent to my oral surgeon's office via the Internet. Wow they charge a lot for a cleaning and exam there. Mine is a flat rate of 50 bucks. For two root canals it cost me a grand total of $350 out of pocket, that was for a total of six visits to the surgeons office.

Memo to sensible - again:
Sorry Mr. or Ms. sensible. A Congressional Republican Retreat is hardly a news conference with real journalists who are paid good money to find out what IS REALLY news and then craft timely news reports for distribution through various media outlets acorss the U.S. and around the world. We don't have much of a Washington or White House Press Corps anymore which, by the way, is why Vice President Biden spoke at the annual Press Corps Dinner last night instead of the President and made a joke out of it. Joltin' Joe may suffer at times from hoof and mouth disease, but he also is well aware what's left of journalism among the Washington Press Corps, by in large, is in the tank for Mr. Obama.

How dare Bret Baier interrupt an elected official who’s droning on and on and saying nothing and refusing to answer a direct question? What does Baier think he is, some kind of reporter?

Foot in Mouf Disease
Most conscious people know that the mainstream media has been giving Barack Hussein Obama a free pass ever since he declared for the presidency.
Thus, his claims to have campaigned in all 57 states and other “Bush-isms” have somehow escaped the radar of the MSM whereas G.W. Bush’s malapropisms and innocent mistakes are still prime fodder for ridicule.
Nevertheless, Obama and his henchmen, principally VP Joe Biden as primary henchman, continue to outshine any Bush faux pas even if few people ever hear about them.
Joe the Mouth’s latest was his heartfelt wish that Irish P.M.’s Brian Cowen’s sainted mother rest in peace or, as Biden said after realizing Cowen’s mom was very much alive and kicking, “God bless her soul.”
Actually it was Cowen’s da who was deceased but why quibble when it comes to a meaningless regret from the vice-president of the United States: http://bit.ly/bFY7Wo
Obama himself, no piker when it comes to looking and sounding inept and stupid, . . .

Barack needs to watch Judge Judy. At least once.
When she says "I'm speaking", that usually shuts them up.
If not, he can try GHWBush's comment to Stone Phillips's aggressive questioning:
"Now, remember where you are..."
Do you really think a clown like Joe Wilson would dare shout out "You lie" if Barack were white rather than bi-racial?
Or that this clown interviewer would try to step on the President's words if he were white rather than bi-racial?
Posted by: ornery | March 19, 2010 2:55 AM
ornery
Really you are going to pull the race card. Are you upset that the reporter asked hard questions and did not let the president ramble and go off into his talking points. Are you saying that you did not like the reporter trying to get a answer from the president. And I bet you loved when Bruce Williams basically tossed Obama nice easy softball questions and basically kissed his behind. Now back to you using the race card. Liberals have been using it so much and for just about everyone that disagrees with them they have become The Boy That Cried Wolf. If you thank that interview was racist you are totally delusional and need psychiatric help.
Posted by: Crooks_In_DC | March 19, 2010 9:56 AM
You do not interrupt the Head of State when he is speaking.
Posted by: ornery | March 19, 2010 12:45 PM
So Geographically Stupid Little Johnnie D and RNC Bruce would prefer Bret Baier give a softball interview to President Obama, just like he did to President Bush two years ago?
