There are two things that will substantially determine how long and how well you live. The first is the genes you inherit, and the second is the quality of healthcare you can afford.
The current debate over healthcare overhaul is at its heart a battle over how to pay for the medical system and what it will do to treat which Americans. But the fight is about more than policy. It is a battle over philosophy, the role of government and eventually how the major players see the role of politics in trying to solve society's problems beyond just healthcare.
In his recent speeches in Pennsylvania and Missouri and in Ohio today, President Obama is touting his healthcare plans, but he also is giving his clearest vision of how he now sees politics -- and that has changed since he took office more than a year ago.
Here is a look at the emerging Obama political philosophy as seen through the lens of the current healthcare battle:
1) Politics takes place in Washington, and this is a trying place.
Obama starts most speeches on the campaign trail by explaining how good it is to be out of the nation's capital, which he often describes as an echo chamber in which politicians and the media speak mainly to themselves and feed on each other.
"They can't help it," Obama on March 8 told an audience of mainly students from Arcadia University in Glenside, Pa. Politicians are "obsessed with the sport of politics. And so that's the environment in which elected officials are operating. And you've seen all the pundits pontificating and talking over each other on the cable shows, and they're yelling and shouting. They can't help themselves. That's what they do."
2. Real life is more important than Washington and it exists outside the Beltway:
"Out here, and all across America, folks are worried about bigger things,'' Obama said. "They're worried about how to make payroll. They're worried about how to make ends meet. They're worried about what the future will hold for their families and for our country. They're not worrying about the next election. We just had an election. They're worried about the next paycheck, or the next tuition payment that's due. They're thinking about retirement.
"You want people in Washington to spend a little less time worrying about our jobs, a little more time worrying about your jobs," Obama told his Pennsylvania audience.
3) Government is an important thing. And it requires faith to work well.
"Now, there's been a lot of discussion about government over the last several months -- and let's face it, people have lost faith in government. They had lost faith in government before I ran, and it's been getting worse," Obama said on March 10 in St. Charles, Mo.
"You know, President Lincoln said that "the legitimate object of government is to do for the people what needs to be done, but which they can not ... do at all, or do so well, by themselves... That pretty much sums up my attitude. You let people do for themselves what they can do for themselves; and then if there are some things that we do better together, we should do them together," he said.
4) Faith leads to optimism. Success may not be assured, but optimism is.
"Despite all the challenges we face -- two wars, the aftermath of a terrible recession -- I want to tell everybody here today I am absolutely confident that America will prevail; that we will shape our destiny as past generations have done," Obama said last week.
"That's who we are. We don't give up. We don't quit. Sometimes we take our lumps, but we just keep on going. That's who we are."
5) Doing right is more important than politics.
"I'll be honest with you. I don't know how passing health care will play politically, but I do know that it's the right thing to do,' Obama said.
6) Doing right is supposed to bring victory - if everyone works together.
"And if you share that belief, I want you to stand with me and fight with me. And I ask you to help us get us over the finish line these next few weeks. The need is great. The opportunity is here. Let's seize reform. It's within our grasp."
6. Electoral politics is a necessary evil, but politics is about more than just the next election.
"Of course, now that we're approaching this vote, we're hearing a lot of people in Washington talking about the politics. Talking about what this means for November. Talking about the poll numbers for the Democrats and the Republicans," Obama often says, as we was saying today in Ohio.
"Because in the end, this debate is about far more than the politics. It's about what kind of country we want to be," Obama said.
7) Because the fight is about politics, the result is about more than healthcare.
"The truth is, what is at stake in this debate is not just our ability to solve this problem, but our ability to solve any problem. The American people want to know if it's still possible for Washington to look out for their interests and their future. They are waiting for us to act. They are waiting for us to lead. And as long as I hold this office, I intend to provide that leadership.
"I don't know about the politics,'' Obama said. "But I know what's right.''

The REPUBLICAN PARTY Wants to Take Away Your Social Security
The Repuglicans sole purpose is to be a PR firm for Billionaires and to give corporate welfare to Exxon and the Wall Street criminals
In fact the recent budget proposal that Paul Ryan has written for the Repuglicans shows they're priorities to be working for Billionaires, Mega Corporations and Big Oil:
First, it calls for big cuts in Social Security benefits for everyone currently under 55 years of age. On top of the cuts it also calls for privatizing Social Security.

Republicans want to cut your social security until it bleeds to death and toss the drained corpse into the jaws of Wall Street. Reason? To transfer your money to the wealthiest people on earth and stick you with the bill. So, democrats, do you have a simple five-second elevator pitch at the ready for why people should vote for you this Fall? If not, how about "Republicans are going to steal your social security and give it to rich people"?

That;s right - it's about jobs. It's about DC focusing on what's "right" - fixing the economy. Drop the hell care stuff - if you have to bribe members of your own party and force it against the will of the people, consider shoving it through using unconstitional means and pad it w/ 10 years of taxes for 6 years of benefits - then it's not a good bill.
Please drop this whole health care takeover and go to Indonesia where they're having a gathering just for you.

"I" "I" "I". This is Obama's interpretation for the course of the American people not the Constitution written by our Forefathers.
Posted by: annjilly | March 15, 2010 1:23 PM
I believe that this article is another misleading puff piece for Obama. The other things Obama has stated is that he wants to fundamentally change our country by overriding our Constitutional rights, creating a government that runs the people which is the opposite of what our founding fathers intended, and creating a nanny state government. Those are beliefs not being reported by the press, and I have to wonder why not.

AND HERE'S A LOOK AT THE DEMS DARK OF NIGHT SHELL GAME STRATEGY:
*
The Health Care "Shell" Game Begins
Shortly before midnight on Sunday, Democrats released a 2,309 page health care bill that will start the process of reconciliation -- but don't let that fool you, it's not the actual reconciliation bill with all the changes you've been reading about. Instead, as Rep. Paul Ryan, the ranking Republican member on the Budget Committee, explained to me last week, this is just the "shell" bill -- the vehicle that Democrats need to get moving on health care. Once the bill gets approved (likely Monday), Democrats will send this phantom bill over to the Rules Committee, where it will be stripped, and then they'll insert in all of the actual changes that they've negotiated.
Why all of the theatrics?
*
Well, under the reconciliation rules in last year's budget, any reconciliation bill would have to have been submitted to the Budget Committee by October 15, 2009. It just so happens that earlier versions of health care legislation cleared the Ways and Means and Education and Labor Committees last year. So Democrats just dusted that legislation off, and are using that as the vehicle to begin the reconciliation process. That's why, for instance, if you look through the 2,309 page bill that was released Sunday night, you'll find a public option, which leadership has indicated would not actually be in the final bill. (Interestingly, the student loan bill is also tacked on at the end.)
*
Just a "simple up or down vote," remember?

The GOP doesn't have a "philosophy". They're entire reason for being is to put out Frank Luntz tested and approved talking points that will lead to policies that make the rich richer. Period, end of story.
The GOP Dictionary for Wingnut Dummies:
* OBSTRUCTIONISM - only refers to Democratic minorities opposing Republican proposals.
* TYRANNY - is found when an elected Democratic MAJORITY passes legislation that Republicans don't like.
* RECONCILIATION - describes a Senate process that Republicans are allowed to use to overcome Democratic "obstructionism.", but Democrats are NEVER allowed to use it.
* TERRORISM - refers to acts of political violence committed by people who aren't angry radical right wing white guys.
* BIPARTISANSHIP - is found only when Democrats agree to pass Republican legislation.
* BIG GOVERNMENT - describes a dangerous phenomenon to be avoided....except in cases relating to reproductive rights or gays.
* TREASON - refers to Democrats criticizing a Republican administration during a war.
* PATRIOTISM - refers to Republicans criticizing a Democratic administration during a war.
* FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY - is a national priority related to keeping our deficit in check when Democrats are in power. Is something to be ignored when Republicans are in power.
* PARLIAMENTARIAN - is a seemingly independent official on the Hill who Senate Republicans are allowed to fire when said Republicans disapproves of his/her rulings.
* GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTH CARE - somehow, doesn't refer to popular government-run health care programs like Medicare and the VA.
* THE HEARTLAND - is the most wonderful place in America, even if no Right Wing pundit would be caught dead ever living there, or even visiting there for more than a day or so.
* SERVING YOUR COUNTRY - is honorable if you're a Republican, but a subject of derision when Democrats do it.

More fluff from The Swamp designed to divert attention from the real issues at the heart of Obama's collapsing presidency. It's never been about healthcare "reform." It's always been about power and control over our lives on the way to creating Obama's fantasy of a big government, socialist state. In addition to stealing 17 percent of the private economy to fuel his nanny state aspirations, Obama had hidden a takeover of the entire student loan industry on page 2,099 of the 2,309-page bill. What do student loans have to do with healthcare? Nothing, of course. But Obama wants to steal as much he can by legislating TWO government takeovers at once. Wake up, folks. Obama and the socialist Democrats are not our friends.
VOTE. THEM. OUT.

Thus far, the conventional wisdom has been that Republicans are enthusiastic and Democrats are demoralized. Thus far, that conventional wisdom has also basically been accurate. But the thing you have to remember is that thus far the Democrats have failed to pass health care reform. Republicans were actually winning, against all odds.
But in this coming week, all that changes. Health care reform will pass. Democrats will have demonstrated their ability to tackle big issues. Republicans will have demonstrated their irrelevance. After reform passes, there might be an initial surge of excitement among Republicans, but that will quickly fizzle in the wake of the GOP's failure to stop reform.
If you want to preview the reaction of the GOP base, check out the comment thread on Fox's coverage of Gibbs' appearance. Instead of reflecting enthusiastic GOP tea partying, that thread is filled with comment after comment from Republicans angry at Fox and the GOP for failing.
.
http://fns.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/03/14/gibbsvan-hollen-say-health-care-will-pass/
.
That sort of reaction is not surprising; nothing encourages finger pointing more than losing. Moreover, it's a blow to the confidence of the Republican base in their party's ability to get anything done, or, as the case may be, in their party's ability to block Democrats from getting anything done.
Meanwhile, Democratic voters will finally be assured that their party can tackle the big issues, and get something done. It's not that anybody believes this bill is perfect. It's not. But it's progress. And it's a sign that on the next issue, instead of just talk, we'll be able to make progress as well. The confidence that instills in Democratic voters will serve the party well in 2010.

Even with all the media spin and Obama fawning, such as this garbage article, the Obamacare bill is more hated today than a year ago. Polls show that the only thing Americans hate more than Obamacare is reconciliation, which is why Obama doesn't even have the guts to utter the word "reconcilation"on this road shows. Obama -- and this healthcare bill -- are frauds. And Americans know it.

Social security should be cut waaay back. It has been abused more and more by pork-barreling legislators and an overly effective and powerful lobby called AARP. When Social Security was first created, it was for those over 65 and keeping in mind the average life expectancy of males was 58 at the time, FDR never intended for people to rely on this as a retirement income. Please do us all a favor and save for your retirement. We are sick of paying for you diapers.

They can't! plain and simple but even you simpleton's can't figure that out! No you continue to use the nefarious blame game as if all of us are idiot's like you! You dummies can't expect us smart people to belive your lies and ignorance. But then, that doesn't stop the likes of big Donny Fitz??? and HHH??? who is Frank Luntz?
Obama the constant campaigner cannot tell the whole truth no matter who or what is standing in front of him. He uses the FEAR tactics that he and the rest of the Obama sheeple claim the Republicans are using.
If he keeps pounding away at this losing proposition, he just might get his way but having his way on this one ideological piece of crap will be the death blow to the rest of his term and to the Democrat Party.
Americans very clearly do not want this piece of legislation to pass and if it's forced on us, Obama and his crew are toast! and the toaster will begin heating up this November!

Obama playing the role of Mr. Morality, telling us he "knows what is right" is downright hilarious.
For Example: He knew what was right when he sued Citi under the CRA to force them to make bad loans. He also knew what was right just two days into office when he gave Citi 300 MILLION, made sure that Timmy Geithner got the deal done by going to work at Citi and then back to the Treasury because "he's the only one that can do the job."
He knew what was right when he selected Rahm (MR NAFTA) for Chief of Staff. He selected all the bad actors that directly caused the Mortgage Meltdown as his financial adivisors: Larry Summers, Robert Rubin...
He knew what was right when he promised transparency...Sorry, I am choking with laughter typing this.
The wacko liberals all "know what is right."

HEALTH CARE REFORM CUTS DEFICIT BY $118 BILLION
The Democrats health bill gets boost from budget office
WASHINGTON (AFP) – "In a boost to President Barack Obama's flagship reform drive, the Congressional Budget Office said Thursday a Senate health care bill would cut the deficit by 118 billion dollars." "The release of the report thickened the intrigue in a tense period of vote hunting for Obama's Democratic allies in the House of Representatives, with the White House pushing for a crucial vote on the measure within a week." "The non-partisan CBO said in its updated assessment that the Senate bill would cost 875 billion dollars over 10 years and reduce projected budget deficits by 118 billion dollars." "In a bid to thwart Republican obstruction tactics, Obama wants the House to pass the Senate bill along with a package of "fixes" in a delicate political maneuver that represents the last hope for his key domestic priority."
.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100311/pl_afp/uspoliticsobamahealthcare
.
As it currently stands, the legislation would cover 31 million Americans and offer consumer protections to all Americans, eliminating the ability of insurance companies to deny people for pre-existing conditions or to rescind coverage to people who get sick. Its ten-year $875 billion price tag would be funded by Medicare cost-savings (without jeopardizing benefits) and a mixture of new taxes. It would reduce the deficit by $118 billion in the first ten years.
Remember, these budget numbers represent a baseline, and will likely change (presumably for the better) once the reconciliation package is complete. But it's an important reminder that the net financial impact of reform will be a reduction in the budget deficit.
If Republicans want to argue that government should not provide a safety net insuring that all Americans have health insurance, that's their right -- but for them to argue that this bill is a fiscal calamity just isn't grounded in reality.

"...I'll be honest with you. I don't know how passing health care will play politically, but I do know that it's the right thing to do,' Obama said..."
In other words, I won, and I am much smarter than you-
So the community organizer in chief- with zero real world economic, financial or management experience or background suddenly is an authority on the subject of a massive overhaul of 1/6 the of the largest economy in the world.
He does this by;
--Ignoring that to pass the Senate he had to buy votes- bribery for you and me, politics as usual for the "one.
---Ignoring that as much as 60% of the population (most who have much more common sense and, financial insight) do not want anything to do with this nonsense.
--Ignoring that the only way the bill scored by CBO does not show massive deficits is to exclude $250B in doctor payments for Medicare patients, and use accounting tricks to pay for 6 years of benefits with 10 years of taxes.
Always be worried about someone who qualifies a statement with I'll be honest with you...-- This implies that the speaker is not confident that he is being in fact "honest".

. . .
HOPEY CHANGEY TRANSPARENCY YOU CAN . . . HUH? THE NYT?
Report Faults U.S.’s Efforts at Transparency
In his first full day at the White House almost 14 months ago, President Obama declared openness and transparency to be touchstones of his administration, and he ordered federal agencies to make it easier for the public to get information on the workings of government.
*
A new report released Sunday by a private research group, the National Security Archive, suggests that the results of Mr. Obama’s push for transparency have been decidedly mixed across the federal government, with progress slow and erratic.
*
More than a third of the agencies, 35 in all, said they had no internal documents showing how or whether the new Freedom of Information policies were being put into effect. Among those are three that have been at the center of public policy debates and at times have been accused of excessive secrecy: the Central Intelligence Agency, the Treasury Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
*
Seventeen federal agencies did not respond to the requests, despite a requirement that they do so within 20 business days.

Bobby's Mommy the Talking Bumper Sticker,
OBAMA IS 100X MORE TRANSPARENT THAN THE BUSHCO WAR CRIMINALS THAT YOU CHEERLEADED FOR EVER WERE!!!
The Bush Years - The Most Secretive Administration Ever
The administration of President George W. Bush continues to expand government secrecy across a broad array of agencies and actions – and at greatly increased cost to taxpayers, according to a coalition of groups that promote greater transparency.
Dr. Patrice McDermott, director of Open the Government, a watchdog group, told IPS, "The federal government under the Bush administration has shown its commitment to secrecy by where it has put its money – more no-bid contracts, fewer government employees processing FOIA [Freedom of Information Act] requests, less on training on classification issues, and almost 200 dollars spent on keeping secrets to every dollar allocated to open them."
"Given our growing deficit, the next administration faces difficult choices in restoring accountable government," he added.
In its "Secrecy Report Card 2008," released Sept. 9, the group concluded that the Bush administration "exercised unprecedented levels not only of restriction of access to information about federal government's policies and decisions, but also of suppression of discussion of those policies and their underpinnings and sources."
Open the Government is a Washington-based coalition of consumer and good government groups, librarians, environmentalists, labor, journalists, and others.
It says that that classification activity remains significantly higher than before 2001. In 2006, the number of original classification decisions increased to 233,639, after dropping for the two previous years.
The government spent $195 maintaining the secrets already on the books for every one dollar it spent declassifying documents in 2007, a 5 percent increase in one year.
At the same time, fewer pages were declassified than in 2006. The nation's 16 intelligence agencies, which account for a large segment of the declassification numbers, are excluded from the total reported figures.

What is funny is how the mainstream media is giving a complete pass to a few disturbing reports about the healthcare bill and how the loony liberals in DC are double counting. They are double counting the so-called half a trillion dollars savings from Medicare. You can not say you are saving the money by taking it from one program and giving it to another. The reports come from the CBO and the head of Medicare.
