The Swamp

by Mark Silva

There's a lot of talk this week among Republicans about repealing the healthcare law that President Barack Obama has just signed.

But House Minority Leader John Boehner, among the talkers, acknowledges that this is no short-term goal.

"We need to repeal this bill and replace it with common sense reforms that'll bring down the cost of health insurance,'' Boehner said this afternoon on FOX News Channel's America Live with Megyn Kelly. But "with a Democrat president for the next two and a half years, even if we gained the majority it's going to be very difficult to repeal this bill outright."

The leader of the House Republicans who voted as a bloc against the healthcare bill on Sunday said today: "This is a budget busting health care bill that I think is going to bankrupt our country... What's becoming clearer every day are the gimmicks that were used in order to show that this was actually going to save money."

Boehner (R-Ohio_ suggests that public "anger'' over the measure should help his party register voters and elect Republicans this fall.

"There are a lot of angry Americans and they're angry over this health care bill. They're angry about the fact that the democrats here in Washington aren't listening to them,'' Boehner said, at a time when the rhetoric has grown overheated on some street corners here in the capital. "Violence and threats are unacceptable. That is not the American way... I know there's anger, but let's take that anger and go out and register people to vote, go volunteer on a political campaign, and let's do it the right way."

Considerig the fact that in the wake of a failed effort to block health care reform, virtually every Republican member of Congress is now pledging their support for full and complete repeal of the health care legislation (even though they would need two-thirds majorities to override a presidential veto), you have to wonder who on earth would actually be stupid enough to continue to send them their hard earned money?

Republicans know they will never be able to repeal this legislation, but they are nonetheless basing their campaign around a promise that they will.

So their agenda has gone from trying to accomplish the nearly impossible (defeating reform) to trying to accomplish the absolutely impossible (repealing reform).

These are not positions that a political party serious about governing would take. These positions are gimmicks. They are jingoistic stunts. They make for good slogans to fire up the Teabagger idiots, but as far as actual policy-making goes, they are completely irrelevant.

Instead of learning from their mistakes of the past 15 months, Republicans are doubling down on the same STUPID that brought them their biggest legislative defeat in decades. It's a strange sight to behold, and it's hilarious.

Repeal Healthcare Reform and I guarantee the people will be in the streets. There is no going back to the Insurance Corps running America and killing her citizens for lack of medical attention. Those days are gone. Healthcare is here to stay and it will get even better. I bet the same rant was rampant during the Social Security legislation, as well as, the Medicare/Medicaid legislations. Get over it, Republican-Libertarina-T.Baggers, like the 2008 presidential elections, you lost. It is that simple and the American people won !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

"We need to repeal this bill and replace it with common sense reforms that'll bring down the cost of health insurance,''

They why did the fool oppose every measure to bring down the cost the insurance premiums?
Here's what was stripped out of the bill for the sake of conservative bipartisanship:

1. Public Option
2. Import cheap drugs from Canada
3. Give Medicare the power to neg. drug prices.

Nope, Mr. Boner, you need to gear up to defend Wall St. and the banks against the Dodd bill.
That will be so funny to see you opposing financial reform.

Let's see, , , , socialism! Right?!

That the Republicans are running around shouting "repeal health care reform" right now is a win-win for us Dems. If the Repugs bow down to reality and refuse to call for repealing health care reform, then they anger their teabagger base, costing them voter intensity and money. But if they cave to that same crazy right wing base, then they risk ending up on the wrong end of public opinion, and being the target of an ad campaign aimed directly at them this fall.

Here's an example of how the campaign ads will go this fall:

"Do you have diabetes? And what about heart disease? And cancer sucks. The only thing I hate more than these diseases are the parasites who have them and then have the nerve to wanna leach off our friends in the corporate health insurance industry."

I'm Illinois Rep Mark Kirk and I approve this message.

We've got about three years, until then, fillibuster everything until the case is heard.
I hope they filibuster the "fixes" first and let those dirty house members live with their votes. Blame the filibusters on the actions of obama, reid and pelosi.
No sense moving forward until this issue is resolved - I would love to see the smile on Robert's face as he rules the bill unconstitutional.
I'm also wondering how the democrats who supported this enjoy the backlash - some already are asking for protection because of all the love for obama and his corrupt, chicago ways!

all talk and no action.

Where were the r-cons for the last 8 years when they controlled the legislative and executive brances of government? Busy as bees, funding wars and bank bailouts to the esimate of 4+ trillion dollars and when they were not busy spending America into oblivion, they:

passed a " bankruptcy reform act" which made it illegal for a family to place their homes in bankrupcy protection, thus contributing to the overwhelming number of foreclosures and homelessness. Keeping in mind that most bankrupcies are a result of medical bills.
But wait, there's more.
The r-con congress also passed their " banking reform act" which doubled the minimum monthly payment consumers were required to pay. The end result has been extreme financial hardship as well as huge deliquencies.and bankrupcies.
The republicans have brought tremendous harm onto working Americans who now see a glimmer of hope, with the passage of healthcare reform and now the republicans want to take that away. Have they no shame?

Vote out all republiicons in November !!!

Congressman John Dingell (D-MI), a champion of this legislation, is caught on tape telling radio host Paul Smith on WJR in Detroit: “It takes a long time to do the necessary administrative steps that have to be taken to put the legislation together to control the people.”

"Control the people..."

As Dingell has confirmed, it’s NOT about "health care". It NEVER was. It’s about expanding the power and the control of government over every aspect of our lives.

Don and HHH are the same, they have a few other personalities in here as well. I'm still waiting for Sybil to show up, then they can talk to each other. I'm thankful not all Democrats resemble them.

To my Republican friends, please get out of dream land. This bill will not be repealed. Although this is a bad bill, there are some good things in it. And it may be possible to make some adjustments and revisions to the bill, but it is not going to be completely repealed. Those of you that are calling for the complete repeal, you are starting to sound like Obama and some of his more staunch Democratic supporters that believe that this new law is going to solve all the problems with Health Care and we are now entering a Utopian Society. It is over all a bad bill and will probably cause more bad than good. The GOP needs to move on and run against the Democrats on the bad economy. While Obama and the Democrats wasted over a year on passing a bad health reform bill the economy continues to sink and Americans continue to lose their jobs. The major issue of the November Elections will be the economy and pocketbook issues, not health care.

"Repealing healthcare" is about the stupidest headline the DNC Swamp has ever run. And believe me, there's been a lot of contenders for that title.

Republicans see the ObamaReidPelosiCare bill as it really is--a lot to do with increased taxes, a lot to do with government takeover, and very little to do with actually improving healthcare.

"Healthcare" won't be repealed by anyone. What Republicans oppose is ObamaReidPelosiCare, i.e., government takeover of "healthcare".

HEY LOOK WHAT I FOUND!!!!
Rep. Conyers Discovers New Clause In Constitution, More Than 200 Years Later
One of the more controversial – and unconstitutional – components of health care reform President Barack Obama signed into law yesterday is Congress’ mandate that individuals purchase health insurance or face a fine.
-
The Heritage Foundation has documented that there is no provision in the Constitution empowering Congress to force Americans to buy a good or service. What’s more, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office agrees the mandate is entirely unprecedented.
-
So where does Congress get the authority to justify that provision? On Friday, CNSNews.com went to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) for answers:
-
CNSNEWS: “What part of the Constitution do you think gives Congress the authority to mandate individuals to purchase health insurance?”
-
Rep. Conyers: “Under several clauses. The good and welfare clause, and a couple others.”
-
The “Good and Welfare” clause simply doesn’t exist. It’s nowhere to be found in the Constitution. CNSNews.com reports:
-
The word “good” only appears once in the Constitution, in Article 3, Section 1, which deals with the Judicial Branch, not the powers of Congress. Article 3, Section 1 says in part: “The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behavior, and shall, at stated Times, receive for their Services a Compensation which shall not be diminished during their Continuance in Office.”
-
As an aside, Rep. Conyers has a law degree, and his committee is responsible for overseeing the federal court system, which in turn interprets and applies the law of the land.

Shouting and Hooting Updates

In these fast-moving times, situations change rapidly necessitating updates to keep matters current. Thus these on “Shouting, Hooting, and Howling,” http://bit.ly/dk31O5

Re: the “SHOUTING” section, a semi-apology to Texas congressman Randy Neugebauer.

Rep. Neugebauer fessed up as the guy who bellowed out during Rep. Bart Stupak’s foolish attempt to appear a pro-life Democrat in his pro-life Michigan neck-of-the-woods and try to defend his cowardly retreat from that position on Sunday night.

See “Bart Stupak: Ignoramus, Hypocrite, or Both,” http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=1580.

Stupak didn’t fool anyone and nor did Neugebauer when he actually shouted, ”Baby killer!” at Stupak.

Neugebauer subsequently conceded that he was the shouter but then resorted to classic congressional CYA by insisting he had really bellowed, “It’s a baby killer” in reference to the Obamacare bill the House had just passed in a squeaker, 219-212.

In deference to colleague Stupak, to whom Neugebauer apologized, the Texan had to lie that he was not vilifying Stupak but rather ripping the pro-abortion Obamacare bill. . .

What bipartisanship??? It was a !00% DEMOCRAT bill. Are you awake? Do you know anything? You own this sucker completely, better sell it. The liberals also took over the 100 billion dollar per year student loan program. More socialism. Or do think that is free market?

A public option IS socialized medicine, DUH. The reason drugs are cheap in Canada is BECAUSE WE SUBSIDIZE THEM.

What happens is that foreign countries impose price controls, so that pharmaceutical companies must pay for their research (which does not come from heaven) out of profits in the United States.

By the way Obama gave Big Pharma a sweet deal so don't count on Medicare negotiating drug prices. Medicare will however deny you care twice as much as any insurance company. That's where the cost saving will come in: a nice fat government bureaucrat deciding that you don't really need an operation at your age.

Doubling down on Stupid - Something Trickled HoHoHo is very familar with.

"Repeal Healthcare Reform and I guarantee the people will be in the streets." Only if they get their butts off the couch.

CM says the oublic option would lower insurance costs? What does the gov't ever do at a lower cost?

Always will be andStill Writing Wrongs,

The GOP controlled both houses of Congress for 4 1/2 years of the Bush adminstration, not 8. They never had near a filabuster proof majority, so common sense reform like tort reform and opening state markets, would have had Teddy Kennedy bloviating until he sobered up.

Lisa,

Don and HHH are a father-son combo. Stupidity this bad has to be genetically linked.

Meltdown,

The bi-partisanship was on voting against the bill.

Crying Wingnut,

So you're actually going to come on here and pretend that Republicans were "shut out" of the health care reform legislation? Hahaha!...yeah, right.

And Biff, please, I'm begging you, go tell your Wingnut leaders that you want them to run on repealing health care reform, social security, medicare this fall, ok? And you're right, the Dems do own health care reform and because of that your Repug heroes are going to have a much harder time winning elections this fall than they thought they would.

Bobby's Mommy,

The only one on here who is using sock-puppets is you.

Most people wouldn't even be able to get a bs post like yours (see above) posted on here in the first place.

Now the Republicans' opposition to "budget busting" has generated a proposal to raise payments to Medicare that will cost billions and increase the size of a government-run healthcare program. One would have thought they would instead offer an amendment to repeal the death panels. So if you're a Republican dittohead, your new marching orders are: - death panels, ok; raising the cost of Medicare, ok; maintaining the gummint takeover of healthcare, ok.

Blah Blah Blah...more far right wing copy and paste garbage from the Swamp's resident talking bumper stick - Bobby's Mommy.

The clownish neocon Heritage Foundation? The guys who warned us about those non-existent WMD's that Iraq had as for why we should invade them? You actually think people are going to believe anything they say? HAHAHA!!

If the CBO had a problem with it they would have said so when they were dealing with the Dems HCR proposal.

But don't take my word for it, Bobby's Mommy. I want you Teabagger simpletons to get your hopes up just so you can get crushed when you find out that you were lied to again. And that goes for your other sock-puppets on here too ( Equal time, worsethanbefore, Lisa C).

Dept Jim:
(snip)

The GOP needs to move on and run against the Democrats on the bad economy

~~~~
the bad economy which they created ? LOL
You say repeal is impossible? Who thought the bill would pass to begin with? Going against a majority of Americans and cramming it down our throats over a one year process of gimmicks and bribes. We will fight to win back our freedom to choose. If it takes till 2012 election so be it but we will fight for this country.
Now is a good time to put together the TV ads for the upcoming elections highlighting the hate filled words and signs coming from the Republican right and their Teabagger pals over health care refrom. Point out the racial slurs, and all the other implied threats (dead man, targets, reload, bullseyes, guns, baby killer, anti-christ,.....) and ask the public if this is the direction they want to go.
If the Republicans are too afraid of that elitist pig Rush Limbaugh to denounce and put an end to this stuff then it's time to make them eat their own words.
