The Swamp

by Clement Tan

The director of the White House Office of Urban Affairs today exhorted Latino Americans to participate fully in the 2010 Census data collection, as Census forms begin to trickle into American homes this week.

At an event at NDN, a liberal-leaning think tank in Washington, Adolfo Carrión Jr. said it was especially important for Latino Americans to participate fully because the findings of the Census affect the allocation of federal resources involving the largest and fastest growing minority group in the United States.

"Latino kids now constitute a quarter of all children under five in the country," he said. "What we do now will affect their futures."

Carrión said it was important that city councils in the major urban areas, where the majority of Latino Americans live, get the resources they need for them to "retool" their grassroots efforts to better provide for their communities.

He was appointed to this position created by President Barack Obama last March to focus federal investment in cities for the first time in several decades.

Carrion, who spent six and a half years as Borough President of the Bronx in New York City, had been a public school teacher. He also served one four-year term on the New York City Council representing the 14th District, which includes the West Bronx neighborhoods of University Heights, Morris Heights, Kingsbridge and Fordham.

Latino's don't vote for Republicans because they're not interested in being represented by a bunch of angry old rich white guys.

Well, you have to count them (illegals) now, as there has been no immigration reform. They are in those districts, using those services, and thus need to be counted for at least servicing those functions. As to whether the illegals should be here and what to do with them, that's a topic for a different board.

The Rethuglicans racist attacks on Judge Sotomayor this past summer are going to hurt them with the Hispanic vote for a long time. They hurt themselves every time they opened their fat mouths.

Everytime a right-winger feigned outrage over Sonia Sotomayor, I smiled a little more.

It was amusing to see how they are only outraged when it isn't something that benefits them i.e. health care reform.

The more vehemently the Wingnuts attacked Sotomayor the more likely it became that they just put a permenent stake through the heart of their ever having a chance of getting the Hispanic vote again.

So I say to Rove, Tancredo, McCain, Druggy Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck et al, in the immortal words of the Shrub himself: "Bring it on".

Translation: We're losing too many lifelong democrat voters over our socialist takeover of the American healthcare system. We're working on amnesty next to replace them, so let's get 'em counted and register 'em to vote!

CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR TRICKLE H!!!

To the right wingnuts latinos are lazy illegals on welfare.

To the rest of us, latinos are hard working decent family people with a rich culture.

Latinos know who their friends are...and they vote.

Muy bien!

Adolfo Carrion is well known as another crook Obama appointed to high office. See the New York Daily News article at http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2009/03/12/2009-03-12_watchdog_group_calls_for_investigation_o-2.html
for the details of Carrion's "pay for play" while a borough president in the Bronx, and the complaint brought by the liberal ethics group CREW.

Funny how the article wouldn't mention Carrion's legal troubles or even the bribe accusations...

I don't think there will be an accurate count based on the terseness of the form itself (I just mailed mine in).

How many people in your dwelling? What is your race?

If you had concerns about your status, would you fill it in?!

Bobby's Mommy,

Translation: If the Republican mouth-breathers that you cheerlead for had actually worked towards getting immigration reform passed when they were in power they might not be having the problem of having zero hispanics voting Republican every election like they do now.

That, and then there's the fact that the GOP and their rubes (you) are pretty much just straight up racists who hate anyone who isn't a doughy white rich guy like they are.

"Hispanic"?...wow, Bobby's Mommy you're getting more and more pathetic by the day with your multiple sockpuppetry.

Overweight far right wing middle-aged white girls with to much time on their hands, like yourself, don't even come close to qualifying as a Hispanic.

The GOP despises people of color, that's one of the many reasons why the Repug party is right on the edge of going the way of the Whigs.

REPUBLICANS TOM TANCREDO, SARAH PALIN AND THE TEA KLUX KLANER'S WANT TO OUT LAW MINORITIES FROM VOTING

It's hard to say which was more disturbing: Tancredo's apparent call for reinstituting laws that were a fundamental component of Jim Crow in the post-Reconstruction South, or the massive round of applause he received from the Teabaggers for saying it.

enter the paranoid ignoramuses with their cloak and dagger conspiracies and what you have is the republicon party !
when you have a lucid moment, ask yourself this: where has John McCain and George Bush been for the last 25 years? Arizona is McCains territory and he did nothing to protect the borders. Nothing. Nada. Mile by mile, Mexico has been reclaiming the American southwest and all you loons can think about is the census form?

The Latinos that I know are NOT into democrat styled wealth redistribution, democrat styled takeaway schemes, and the picking of winners and losers in that special way that only democrats are so adept at perpetrating on anyone. Latinos know that they can always go to Mexico, Columbia, or Guatemala and lie prostrate in the city square should they have a further need for that special experience that so heavily debases an individual’s labor.

The 50+ Latino majority vote for democrats now, but if there is ever a substantial Latino middle class, which admittedly is increasing difficult for anyone in Mustapha’s Amerika, then the democrats may find sooner than they think, assuming that they occasionally do think, that they will have to go out and find a new group to emasculate and indenture. Keep “hope” alive.

Overweight far right wing middle-aged white girls with to much time on their hands, like yourself,

HEY I resemble that remark !

If enough chimps pound long enough on enough typewriters, we're told, they will eventually type out the Complete Works of William Shakespeare.

And so I guess I was not surprised to AGREE with Dick Army in his recent appearance at the National Press Club....

Where he called Tancredo a disaster for his party....

And pointed out that the INS - now known as Dept of Homeland Security Citizenship & Immig Services - in its rude mistreatment of Latinos and just about every other nationality under the sun, drives them into the arms of the Democrats.

Ya got that right, Dick.

I wonder what kind of differance it would make to Mexico if I were there as an illegal immigrant and they had a sensus. Would I be counted to. If I were there as an illegal would I be treated fairly and get welfare if I needed it. I would probably have to get a job there and not pay any taxes to earn a living.

Oh c'mon! Why don't you just get rid of this verbiage already?

Latinos will probably not be counted accurately in this census and many more to come.

Besides the illegals who are understandably afraid to be counted, many legals are wary of cooperating. It's the ghetto mentality, the tendency of emigres to group together and lay low in their familiar neighborhood with their familiar culture and language, and to distrust civil authority.

Just sick of seeing HHH comments

Being Hispanic (Puerto Rican), I am so tired of ignorant leftist like HHH assuming that there is some sort of genetic trait that makes us speak Spanish and side with Liberals on every issue.

HHH is in fact a true racist, because he has decided that race (as he defines is, based on language of some ancestor) alone determine political affiliation, beliefs and behavior.

I saw first hand how racists like him treated us, as incapable of succeeding without the help of rich whites who obviously know better, because they "care". My father was told time and time again what was best for him, and when he dared to disagree, he was told to his face that he was a traitor to "his people". Of course, "his people" was anyone and everyone who spoke Spanish. Ignorant whites, and power-hungry leaders of the "Hispanic" community, told us time and again that Mexicans, Cubans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Ecuadorans, Venezuelans, and what ever else were all the same, and all have the same cultural, political and social goals. It was that attitude that turned my family into conservative Republicans, after voting for Democrats from FDR to McGovern.

And I see that the bigotry is alive and well and securely entrenched in today's Liberals and Democrats.

the ghetto mentality?
distrust of civil authority?

typical rightwing attack against anyone who is not a paunchy middle age white guy...

you *forgot* to mention the other talking point about how latinos are all drug pushers and here illegally.

then skip them. Personally, I enjoy reading HHH's posts because they're like breath of fresh air in a cesspool of mental dysfunction and bigotry.

Oh, please. The GOP wants nothing to do with the likes of your "kind," which teabagging rednecks are all too happy to lump into one category. As far as they're concerned, you're all illegal freeloaders living off the system. The most you can do for them is continue mowing their grass and washing their cars.

The democrats finally have for themselves a real good political issue. They can and surely will attack any Republicans who see a security issue and a very serious issue of non-funded social services due to an unsecure southern border with Mexico. The democrats, with the able assistance of their MSM allies will label us Republicans as racists, hate-mongers and the like. No different than a normal, daily spin through the Swamp.

After destroying the American Economy, destroying a very good but less than perfect private healthcare system, bestowing citizenship on terrorists that find themselves unluckily taken into custody, the democrats DO need a good issue that their demagoguery skills will be able to allow them to cover over the body of the rest of their work. This is that kind of movie.

Just this one disconnect persists. Why would anyone looking to secure a middle class standard of living for their family in the pre-transformed American tradition, leave the no-chance of upward mobility socialist structure of Mexico, cross a sometimes dangerous river, meander through 30 miles of rugged Texas terrain in the heat of the day, so that they may become a faithful member of the no-chance of upward mobility socialist party of America. In Mexico it is the PRI party, in Amerika it is called the democrat / democratic party.

democrats do need this issue, but the grand-er scheme is still in need of a few adjustments. This is that kind of movee.

you're joking, right ?
either that or you're tripping.

how is healthcare reform destroying .."..a very good but less than perfect private healthcare system.." ?

Destroying ? please explain.

Writerofwrongs,

No, I am not joking.

You do have me nailed on the tense of my choice of verbs that I used with respect to our healthcare system. You are right, it is not destroyed ~ Yet. It WILL be destroyed if we are saddled with 2700+ pages of crap that addresses next to nothing related to the dispensation of medical treatment. The average voter apparently can recognize this as well.

Exactly what costs, in the medical care of an actual breathing patient, does it lower? Will there suddenly be more doctors, more nurses, more hospitals? Will doctors be able to be doctors without worrying that some jury is going to attach them with a 50 million dollar malpractice lawsuit the first time that they miss a diagnosis?

This is a crisis, we are told, but then nothing happens for 4 years, except for the collection of additional taxes. Sure, there is some benefit in everyone having insurance, but someone or someone else is still forced to pay for it.

Medicare is a contractual obligation. How can the democrats take away 450 Billion $$$ from Medicare to spend on a new scheme? Why would the Congress exclude themselves from this fine piece of health care legislation, if it represents an improvement? This is fraught with many unanswered questions.

You, no one, can beat me at TEGWAR (The Exciting Game Without Any Rules). TEGWAR does have rules, but I would be the one making them up. Similarly, someone else’s TEGWAR or poker game with 2,700+ pages of rules and what-not, would not be a good idea for me to try to play. I would never, willingly, sit down at that table. Who really knows what this bill of 2,700 pages of crap really does.

We know what the democrats think and we know what the Republicans think. It appears that most Independents would agree with my side of this debate. This is 2700+ pages of Legislative crap that does not appear to improve anything that would be related to medicine. I’m not joking.

I am a Republican who sees the Latino Immigration Issue as a political football that the democrats can call for a pass, run, or a kick from any point on the field, and they will always have the ball. We, of the Party of Lincoln, will be called racists and haters and so on. Of this, I am surely not. I can provide anecdotal proof (the best that I can do in a Swamp). democrats need to do this to take back some ground with the electorate. There is an election in 8 short months. There is a lot here in this fine poker game to call.
