Sen. Carl Levin, pressing a Goldman Sachs trader about the sale of $600 million in questionable securities before the collapse of the nation's financial markets, asked how long he was engaged in pitching a product that a superior called, well...
"''Boy, that Timberwolf was one s----y deal.' They sold that s---y deal,'' Levin said today, reading from an internal Goldman Sachs memo.
The email was from the head of a division in late June 2007 to Daniel Sparks, the salesman on the hot-seat in the Senate's committee hearing on Goldman Sachs.
"How much of that 's----y deal' did you sell to your clients after June 22, 2007?,'' Levin (D-Mich.) asked Sparks.
"I don't know the answer to that, but the price would have reflected levels that they wanted to invest in at the time,'' the Goldman Sachs employee testifying said. "I don't recall selling hundreds of millions of that deal after that.''
The message he drew from the remark of the division chief, he said, was that his performance on the Timberwolf deal wasn't good.
"I didnt use that term with respect to this deal,'' Sparks said.

Let's spend less time focusing on four-letter-words from Democrats and more time on the catastrophic fraud unleashed by Wall Street and the GOP's defense of these tactics.

Catastrophic fraud matt? Yeah, it's pretty bad.
But why do you suppose no criminal charges have been brought? Why is no one in jail? Who are Levin & co. protecting? Who are they shafting?

I am watching the hearings and am spell bound. It proves what I have been feeling for years about those who obtain great seats of power. To keep them, you have to walk right on the line between the San Souci and San Quentin.
It is difficult to figure out who is being grilled, since everyone on the committee has taken hundreds of thousands from Goldman and the President millions. This reminds me of Rutledge`s defense of slavery in the classic play," 1776," Who sails the ships out of Boston, laden with Bibles and rum? From Boston to Charleston to the Ivory Coast, tell me brothers, who stinketh the most."
Tell me readers who stinketh the most, the corrupting crooks who looted retirement funds or the ploitical figures who took their money and looked the other way?

Very relevant synopsis...
Jim Rickards - Trust in Free Markets is Dead:
Welcome to Pluto
As Rickards correctly points out Washington had no idea of the depth of the financial crisis. The wealth transfer and looting of this country continues unabated while the chasm between the rich and the poor widens. The destruction of the middle class is irrelevant to the modern day pirates, they must have their treasure at any cost. As Jim notes, “The winners like Goldman Sachs made sure to collect.” The last two sentences of Jim’s piece summarize the situation nicely and are in line with top professionals who ask today, “What is real anymore?”

If only we could get as much candor as contained in this email about the rest of the sh***y deals Wall Street and its enablers in the government have laid on the economy. Deals like the eviscerating of Glass-Steagall, for instance. As we saw yesterday, there is in the Senate a stubborn right wing group that doesn't even want to discuss diluted regulatory measures to make future shitty deals less sh***y.

Way to go, Senator Levin !! Show them Morons from Madison Ave. and the Weasels of Wall Street, that , " Aw, shucks.", ain't gettin it. Let's throw all of those stupid, bubbling idiots, masquerading as " experts ", into our finest jails, enforce the Rico Act and put all of those bonuses, back into our Treasury. That includes all of the money the lobbyists are doling out to the Republican-Libertarian-T.Bagger, Obstructionists, that are denying the majority in our Senate, the Democrats, the ability to present the Wall Street Reform bill from debate. Throw all those bums from Wall Street, and their lackeys that are preventing a national debate on reforming the Wall Street casinos, into our jails and charge them a thousand dollars a day for food and board !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Charles, They Both Stink. And while Senator Levin shows the world that he has a "potty mouth," and the Left Wing Crazies and the Right Wing Fanatics blame each other for the financial meltdown (even resorting to name calling) on many of the posts, the World Stock Markets tumbled today after Greece's bonds were lowered to junk status, and there were reports that Spain and Portugal were going to be the next Greece. And locally in Chicago it is feared that thousands of teachers and staff may be laid off by the Chicago Public Schools. What a big mess!

The Repugs are doing everything in their power to turn a fall election, which should favor them (the minority party always picks up seats after a Pres election) into another self inflicted disaster for themselves.
2/3rds of Americans Support Wall Street Reform But Senate Republicans Block It

The 1/3 of Americans who enjoy being robbed by the big Wall Street robber barons are the "Real-American" Teabagger Republicans who think that being fleeced by a bunch of Wall Street greedheads is a point of pride. The rest of us are clearly failing to perform our patriotic duty of fellating Wall Street.

VIDEO: Bank Lobbyists Huddle For Another Secret Meeting With REPUBLICAN Senators
"Earlier today, President Obama traveled to New York to tell the nation’s most influential bankers to call off their "battalions of financial industry lobbyists" and embrace a new regulatory structure meant to avert another economic crisis. But around the same time back in Washington, D.C., bank lobbyists hosted a fundraiser for Senate Republicans, including Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), who has become the Republican liaison for Wall Street fundraising."

SINCE 2004, BIGGEST WALL STREET FIRMS GIVE MOST CASH TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY
"Throughout the past year, Republicans in Congress and top Wall Street banks have been working together in a symbiotic relationship in which the GOP works to water-down financial regulatory reform in exchange for campaign cash. The Wall Street Journal reports that the pact seems to be paying off, at least for the GOP:"

FITZ,
What does Madison Avenue have to do with Goldman Sachs? IS this a scandal of Big Advertising?
As Abe Lincoln once said "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt"?
Trickled On,
The repeal of Glass-Steagall did help cause this problem. The portion of Gramm-Leach-Billey Act that loosened mortgage lending standards help start this tidal wave.

Methinks that the Republicans are hard-pressed in coming up with a new rationale for supporting Wall Street Reform since their Frank Luntz inspired "it's a bailout" right wing meme was such a craptacular failure, provoking guffaws after jaw dropping shock.
It also helps the Dems that Goldman Sachs execs have displayed their craptacular arrogance on C-Span for all the world to see.
The commercials for the 2010 midterms are writing themselves.
"Republican Senator Xxxxx voted against Wall Street regulation three times." Oops: "Republican Senator Xxxxx voted against Wall Street regulation four times." Want to go for five?

Sen. Levin was quoting an e mail, not using the "s" word himself....
Today market started to tank. In-bed-with financial commentators blamed it on some bad Greek pastries....
However, I think the licking Goldman took today by the Senate Govt Affairs Investigations committee may have had a little to do with the decline :--))
They'll be running the tape of Sen Levin's cross examination in Wharton School seminars for years to come, on how to prepare your ass for grilling.....

As Jimmy Paige once wrote - or was it Robert Plant? - "It makes me wonder". I wonder what defect it is in the psychological makeup of a group of human beings that would have them putting the health and well being of millions of other human beings behind the private profit of a very few. Most of these lawmakers who live in the pockets of the Plutocracy call themselves "Christians". Have they ever made a serious study of the books? You know! - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? - Those guys! How do they justify their actions? How do they sleep at night? We're talkin' major hypocrisy here! That's what makes them so much fun to watch! I always get a certain twisted delight in watching their fake piety. Imagine Wendy O. Williams being cast as Bernadette of Lourdes; or Marilyn Manson as Mahatma Gandhi. It's kind of the same thing.
Sooner or later our right wing friends, within the Congress and without, are going to be forced to admit that the era of anything goes deregulation was a really stupid idea. You can only sit calmly in a burning house, ignoring the flames all about you, for just so long. Sooner or later you'll be forced to flee for your life. After making your escape, if you still refuse to acknowledge that the house is indeed on fire, you're beyond the point where you can make rational decisions on your own. You've entered Librium Country, hombre!
