John McCain: 'Great American': The Swamp

Sen. John McCain, who got a lot of mileage as a "maverick,'' suggests that now what people are seeing is "a partisan.''

Others suggest that what people really are seeing is a four-term senator from Arizona suddenly facing a fight for his own political life in a tough Republican primary contest back home -- "I've never considered myself a maverick,'' McCain, the senior senator from Arizona and 2008 Republican nominee for president, said in a recent interview with Newsweek.

Which prompted FOX News Channel's Chris Wallace to press McCain, retired maverick, for an explanation.

"Look, when I was fighting against my own president, whether we needed more troops in Iraq or whether spending was completely out of control, then I was a maverick,'' McCain said on FOX News Sunday. "Now that I'm fighting against this spending administration and this out-of-control and reckless healthcare plan, then I'm a partisan...

"I have considered myself a person who is a fighter,'' McCain said. "I fight for the things I believe in, and sometimes that's called a maverick. Sometimes that's a partisan. And people can draw their own conclusions. I prefer 'great American,' myself.'' -- with a flourish of that one sense which the senator still has not lost, a sense of humor.

John Harwood of CNBC said this morning on MSNBC's Morning Joe: "I think he took a step toward being not too clever by half with that response... Every politician... as you know, has got a bit of a shape-shifter about Barack Obama... John McCain's shape-shifting in this campaign... is pretty conspicuous.''

Newsweek Editor John Meacham, on Morning Joe, put it this way: "Maverick is a synonym for growing in office -- evolving.''

Say good-night, Johnny. Your make-overs are getting tiresome and transparent. You should ride off into the sunset and make room for another disingenuous Republican-Libertarian-T.Bagger. Give the new kid a chance at the public trough, where you have had your own personalized designated area, for the last 50-60 years, you and Phil Gramm !! Ride one of your private jets, off into the sunset. On second thought, leave the flying of jets to someone else, you don't seem to have had much luck with them !!

John McCain sold out to the radical right - demonstrating that his current position is the real McCain. Sadly - this one time American hero has joined the ranks of those who threaten America. ....

http://thefiresidepost.com/2009/04/27/radical-fanatics-are-a-threat-to-americas-safety/

There are videos all over the Internet where McCain is shown calling himself a maverick; now he's trying to pretend that he never said that. This guy is truly the king of flip-floppers who will repudiate anything he has ever said to curry favor with Republican voters.

Interesting that a man whose campaign demonized Barack Obama for being a "celebrity" and having too high of an opinion about himself is both lying about whether he ever called himself a "maverick" and only half-jokingly positioning himself for all eternity as a "great American." Not quite...

Regardless, Loons, McCain is right. When he disagreed with Bush, the media loved him and called him a maverick. So he took on the mantle.
Now, he is still fighting for the same things he fought with Bush about and the media no longer likes him.
Trouble is, outside of the deranged, demented loons on the Left, most Americans see through this double standard and BS propagandist spin by the BS lamestream media.

McCain Speaks! I'm no Maverick! I'm Colo Solo Panama Canal Zone 1936 (Birthersl) naturalized American Soil aka BOAT, just no shackles and I had the right to vote at birth! Maverick that was so last year! That was so yesterday! Arizona is a Hell Hole! Arizona is the only state that has Trespassing in the GOP First Degree! YOU LIE! YOU LIE! You go to jail! State jail just not Federalized jail. I'm no Maverick, have been on the border lately! 4.4 Billion Dollar Border Security Account is gone! We spent it all! We blew it all! It was always about "civil rights." Maverick, that was last year, this is now! That was so Sarah! That was so say it "ain't so Joe." You can call me John! Or you can call me JOHN JOHN! You can call me Colo Solo! Just not Maverick! We spent it all! We need the National Guard, just on the Southern Border, just not the Northern Border! You can call Kimosabi! You can call me TONTO! Just not Maverick! Just not "Iseman." That was so last decade! Just not Maverick! Arizona is a Hell Hole, and I helped!

I noticed that he used "When I was fighting MY own president ..." wrt to Bush.. How come the present president (Obama) is not his president?

Does he really endorses that Obama is alien/not legit/gangster or whatever the loonies like Palin likes to call him?

Shame on him

John D. What have you been drinking? Maverick was John McCain's 2008 presidential political slogan, not some media creation. McCain often tried to undercut Bush. He disliked Bush because Rove lied about McCain's daughter, linking her to a made up affair with a black woman. He now is pandering to the base and has shown that he is just a regular old politician. He would say and do anything just to get re-elected. No need for principles.

FITZ,

While John McCain's plane crashed in VietNam and he was held captive by the North VietNamese, little Barry Soetoro was attending a muslim school in Indonesia. While Senator McCain served his coutry honorably did BO even register for with selective service?

Roger Morris - nice raps. They are always fresh, as you rappers say. You have the dopest raps on the SWAMP fo show, Ro Mo.

We won't mention the " Keating Five ", will we, " Terry "? That would that be besmirching a " war hero ". Well, that story should be told, as well that " Crash " McCain downed 6, very expensive jets, and if it wasn't for his father being an Admiral, I don't think he would had a chance at downing a 3rd jet, a 4th jet, or even, a 5th jet. Let's face, it " Terry ", your guy crashed, I mean, cashed in on his POW status for a political career and he still couldn't get it right !! Reward him, no, I say criticize him for his lack of competence, integrity and honesty. I have to hang my head in shame, when I read your phony concern about an unscrupulous person like " Crash " and didn't hear a peep from you or your ilk, when they were butchering a real live Vietnam Veteran, war hero. His name was former Senator Max Clelend. He lost his both of his legs and both arms, while fighting in Viet Nam and your ilk was able to defeat him at the polls, by painting him as unpatriotic. That's right, it was that good old boy, Saxby Chambliss and his Republican hatchet men, down in Georgia, along with the Swift Boaters, you know, those most distinguished of the Republican-Libertarian-T.Baggers. So, you can clam-up on that sorry sob story about a war hero!! Max Cleland is the real deal. He is a war hero and he has the sacrifices to show you, to prove it ! Gave his everything for his country and you sorry Republican-Libertarians-T.Baggers stole what little he had left. You and your ilk, sure don't represent the America I know and love. It is more like you are some fiends, out to suck on some blood. Well, get back to the shadows, suckers !!

I think your reading into his words to much on the MY president comment. John McCain is loyal to the office and to this country.

John McCain is an American hero and should be given that respect. Some of the comments on this board are appauling considering what this man has done for his country.

Some say it's tight, but McCain is going to hold up the polls. He's gaining momentum as the state is being reminded of who JD Hayworth really is. Call him a maverick or don't - he stands up for what's right, ultimately. At least he's not a trigger happy wingnut.

Time and again, McCain told us all he was a Maverick. He ran his 2008 campaign for President as a Maverick. His words not mine. Now he runs to clusterFoxNoise and does the flip flop thing. McCain is a cheater, who left his first wife after she was seriously injured in an automobile accident. McCain is not a hero, he is a coward and liar and a first class hypocrite. He has been living off the government his entire life. When he retires he will be able to enjoy his free socialized healthcare.

McCain is simply saying that he follows his knowledge and history on policy and issues. This is the THIRD most fiscally conservative member in Senate and I personally wish we had more members like him!

You're referring to the same John McCain who thought most fiscally responsible way to handle the costs of the Eye Wrack fiasco was to keep them entirely outside the budget? You admire that?

Get a clue, zombie. McCain is a waste of space. That he now disavows his "maverick" moniker just provides further proof of what an unprincipled loser he's always been and always will be.

FITZ,

The Keating Five does not besmirch John McCain as a war hero, just as a politician - deservedly so.

Let's review those six crash myth you keep perpetuating:

McCain did lose two Navy aircraft while piloting them. One crash was found to be be McCain's fault, the other due to an engine failure of undetermined cause.. A third was destroyed on the deck of the carrier USS Forrestal when a missile fired accidentally from another plane hit either the plane next to McCain's or, less likely, his own aircraft, triggering a disastrous fire that killed 134 sailors and nearly killed McCain. A fourth plane was lost when he was shot down over North Vietnam on a bombing mission over Hanoi.

A fifth alleged "crash" turns out to be a misinterpretation of a flight accident that did not result in the loss of the aircraft. McCain admitted to causing that incident through "daredevil clowning" but returned safely.

As for the sixth crash, only the little grey matter knows where that came from.

As for Max Cleland, I can only speak for myself and not "my ilk" (whoever they may be). I have never said a bad word about Mr. Cleland and his service to his country. Unlike you, I don't denegrate a war hero for his service. If it is the path you want to take and compare how the war injuries of Senators Cleland and McCain were incurred - go ahead and go down that path. I won't unless you lead.

Your beloved BO has one month until the troops are out of Iraq - how's that coming along? Will that be one more campaign promise he broke just like shutting down Gitmo?

" Terry ", if you expect me to believe any of your nonsense, you must think I'm a Republican-Libertarian-T.Bagger. I'm not that stupid. As for his litany of reasons for losing expensive jet aircraft, it is a good thing his father and grandfather were Admirals, or he may have found himself in the brig. As for his despicable, greedy, illegal behavior, concerning the " Keating Five ", speaks volumes about his "impeccable " character. I'll tell you what, buddy, when you and your ilk, serve your country, as I did and as many others have, we have a right, and a duty, to criticize every goofball, who disgraces the uniform, as " Crash " McCain did, time and again, including the "Keating Five" scandal !!

FITZ,

Who should we believe, official Navy records or the ramblings of some disgruntled Blago backer? I presented facts, you presented Internet Crap.

It's hard to believe that a fellow veteran would dishonor the service of another veteran who spent years in a North Vietnamese prison camp because he disagrees with his politics.

This whole post says a lot about the type of person you are - just an old bitter individual that will win at all costs, including the truth and the trashing of a fellow vet. You have ranted in here about "swiftboating" before and yet you are doing even worse. That's just sad.
