On the eve of Tax Day and the arrival of the TEA Party Express in Washington, another poll is out tonight with an attempt to explain who these people are.
About one in five of all Americans consider themselves supporters of the leaderless but active amalgamation of people angry at government over taxation and other matters -- that alliance of "Taxed Enough Already" people who are on their way to the nation's capital for another rally and protest of the Obama administration.
This is among the findings of a new CBS News/New York Times poll released this evening -- though, following the mantras of the many people who have commented on this subject in these e-pages: "You're probably not a 'Teabagger' if you believe The New York Times.''
They hire real pollsters, these media people, and this is what they've learned about the TEA people:
"Just one percent of Tea Partiers are black, and 89 percent are white,'' CBS News reports this evening. "They tend to be on the older side, better educated than average, and make more money. Very few are Democrats.
"More than half say they are angry at the government, and the vast majority say America's on the wrong track. They are not, as you might have guessed, big fans of the president.
"Twenty-four percent say it is sometimes justified to take violent action against the government. That compares to 16 percent of Americans overall who say violence against the government is sometimes justified.
"Sixty-three percent say they get the majority of their political and current events news on television from the Fox News Channel, compared to 23 percent of Americans overall.
"Thirty percent of Tea Party supporters believe Mr. Obama was born in another country; another 29 percent say they don't know. Twenty percent of Americans overall believe the president was not born in the United States.
"They have favorable impressions of Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and George W. Bush, but not Ron Paul or John McCain. They are less likely than Americans overall to believe whites have more opportunities to get ahead than blacks. One in four believes the Obama administration favors blacks over whites.''
There's more about the TEA Party in the CBS/Times poll.

Hey People,
If you're having as much trouble understanding what the Teabagger racists are saying as I am, here's a handy Teabagger Language guide for you.
The Illustrated Teabagger Dictionary:
"Ever wondered what "Real America" means? Or how precisely Sarah Palin defines communism and fascism? Look no further. Using misspelled Teabagger placards, from this excellent Flickr gallery, we've compiled the first comprehensive dictionary for this new dialect."
"Here are 24 key words, and their associated misspelled placards, that are now charged with the fevered, dog-whistling undertones of Fox News and the new right."

98 percent of Americans are getting a tax cut this year thanks to Democratic legislation that was opposed by every single Republican in Congress. And yet the Teabaggers are still upset, of course, since this is somehow more evidence of "socialism/fascism/communism/naziism"....or something. They are distraught that the richest 2 percent aren't getting their taxes cut as well. ;-(
.
http://www.ctj.org/obamastaxcuts.php
So here's an idea! -- How about 100 percent of the Teabaggers send their tax cut to the 2 percent richest Americans who didn't get one? Sure, Sarah Palin made over $12 million last year, but she didn't get a tax cut! So the Teabaggers can helpfully send her their tax cut so that she can accumulate more wealth.
And in Right Wing Trickle-Down fantasy land, that means more jobs for everyone. Yeay!
And here's a form that's been put together to make it easier for Teabaggers to forward their hard earned tax cuts to the richest of the rich. It's a great opportunity for them to put their words into action.

This is a movement that simply cannibalizes existing GOP voters. It is not some grassroots phenomenon sweeping all kinds of citizens across the nation. It's a bunch of angry, white rich guys upset that someone like Obama is in power.

When HHH uses homophobic slurs to ridicule people he is not able to comprehend, we see that he is a classic ignorant liberal who cannot deal with any disagreement without stooping to vapid rants.
Based on his attitude, and that of Mark Silva and other reporters, we know the following:
HHH wants to run up national debts of $1 TRILLION a year for the next 10 years.
HHH does not pay enough in taxes and thinks he should pay more.
HHH likes paying for illegal aliens in schools, work and hospitals, and likes having the cheap labor around.
HHH thinks the government is not big enough, and must become even more controlling.
HHH thinks Blacks and Hispanics are inferior and can only be helped by smart white folks like HHH.
HHH has no idea about history and the fact that every leading segregationist in the 50's, 60's and 70's was a staunch Democrat. These people include the current senior Senator from West Virgina, Al Gore's daddy, and a guy that Clinton gave the Presidental Medal of Freedom to, for trying to keep Blacks using the "Colored" water fountain in the Capital.
HHH likes spending $20,000 per student in Chicago to get a 20% High School graduation rate, and a 6% college graduation rate.
Here is a prediction - HHH and other members of the brain-dead Left and Obamanation will fail to address any of these issues that the Tea Party is angry over, and instead will launch into personal attacks and rantings that will end in a pool of spittle.

I am not a polling expert but this is contrary to other findings that the Tea Party makeup is almost exactly the makeup of the country. Also 28% are Democrats. Don't flame me, I didn't do the poll.

Why would anybody want to pay taxes to support people that don't respect them. Like these people that go out of the way to coarsen and cheapen the discussion at every chance, much like the rest of the liberals who love big government, because they can't make a living. I hope Republicans nominate Palin in 2012. The Planet Wingnuttia Teabagger ggons should love her. They like not-too-smart candidates (Reagan, Bush2). They like candidates who are totally uninformed and who merely repeat one of the twelve Conservative platitudes in response to each and every question. They like candidates who will increase the wealth of the wealthy, reduce the income of the lower class, and outsource our jobs. They also love candidates who will increase the national debt (Reagan $1.5 trillion; Bush1 $1.5 trillion, Bush2 $5.5 trillion).

Escaped from NY, HHH, formerly known on these pages as "John E." does not pay taxes, wants the government bigger, doesn't care how much the government spends, and wants those who do pay taxes to pay even more so he can continue to do nothing in life but live in mummy's and daddy's basement terrorizing the world.
Also, HHH, it was not the Tea Party people who called themselves "teabaggers," but the liberal media and your loony ilk. Tea Party people used the phrase "Tea Bag Congress" and stuff like that, which is a totally different context. No Tea Party person said, "I am a teabagger," or "we are teabaggers."
Anyway, Mark, even professinal pollsters can skew numbers by who they call, etc. I would be curious as to how this and any poll is done of those in the Tea Party movement. Most polls actually show that many of the Tea Party people are independents. One finding of the poll that I certainly do agree with is that we are largely highly educated. Certainly more educated and wiser than anything that comes out of the Loony Brain Dead Left.

Anderson Cooper coined the phrase. No one in the Tea Party used that term. Cooper apologized; at least he showed a minimum amount of class.

Death and Taxes
“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” (BenjaminFranklin); ”Taxes are the price we pay for civilization.“ (Oliver Wendell Holmes)
Franklin was semi-correct in his observation, in the death part, but though taxes are always with us the rates are always negotiable in a civilized society thus adding a degree of uncertainty.
The Obama administration commented on death without ever using the word. In the context of a nuclear attack on the United States we were reminded, (just reminded, mind you), that local agencies should and would be the first responders and decimated cities shouldn’t expect to see the feds on hand for 72 hours or more.
The reader may recall the uproar over FEMA’s slow response in the aftermath of Katrina when President G.W. Bush was lambasted for doing a flyover over New Orleans and commending FEMA head Michael Brown (”Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job”). President Obama seems to want to forestall any such criticism by warning local officials not to expect any “significant federal response” for up to four days if they were nuked.
Barry, you’re doing a heck of an advance job.
It’s bad enough that Obama was talking about the unthinkable, a terrorist nuclear attack on an American city, but he gives fair warning that the surviving victims would be on their own for a good few days. Brownie screwed up after massive flooding; Barry is planning to screw up after a mushroom cloud rises above NYC or LA or SF or DC.
Some 1836 people died from Katrina, a horrendous toll. Tens of thousands would be killed in a nuclear blast but fear not, says the White House in a guide posted online and sent to local officials, in effect saying you guys will be just fine until we get around to you.
And what would that blast do? “A 10-kiloton nuclear explosion would level buildings within half a mile of ground zero, generate 900-mph winds, bathe the landscape with radiation and produce a plume of fallout that would drift for hundreds of miles, the guide says.” That would be followed by chaos so the plan is for the feds to hang back until things were more settled: http://bit.ly/agkd93
Then there’s tax news, which seems cheerful in comparison. . .

You’ve had an extra strong cup of Kool-Aid if you think that anyone is going to nominate Sarah Palin for any office come 2010. That isn’t gonna happen.
.
You have to see Palin for what she is. She is a cheerleader. She gets her talking points from someone else. Her job is to keep people motivated to hew the conservative line until an actual candidate or two can step up to the plate. She keeps the natives on the war-path to scare Republican incumbents and potential candidates into embracing fiscal and institutional conservatism (for real, for once). You know, the small government, tight-fisted-with-the-money stuff?
.
No one in their right mind (as in correct mind) would nominate her for office. She doesn’t have the knowledge, fortitude, smarts or independence of thought to do the job. Anyone who thinks we would use a nuclear weapon in response to cyber terrorism (like she just said we would) is obviously incompetent. Believe it or not, this is obvious even to conservatives.
.
But go ahead and believe she will be a contender. You don’t believe me anyway. I won’t try to correct your mistakes any more. That way, you (and those like you) will simply believe the contest is already won. You won’t correct your attitude or actions in time to exert an effort to win. That will be two mistakes on your part.

I see HHH and Don Fitzgerald are out with their usual unoriginal Far Left Wing Rants that sound like they are left over from an old Keith Olbermann Show condemning all they do not agree with. The usual Donny rant is "Ugh, Republicans and Libertarians are bad people, Obama and Democrats are good people." Don still still does not know what a Libertarian is and I am surprised that he has not thrown in Independents and Moderate Democrats in the groups he does not like.or what they stand for. But what puzzles me is a new statement (highly unusual for Don), that he made: "It is hard for people to give up their privileges easily, that's why the T.Baggers appeared in such numbers, with such venom." My question to Don is what "privileges" are you talking about? Are the "privileges" you are talking about is that those people are upset about paying high taxes to support the freeloaders in this country that want everything for nothing? I do not know what you mean Don. You need to explain your statement further about these "privileges" that upsets you so much. We are all waiting for your answer. In fact we should have a pool on whether your response is the usual predictable left wing rant or really something original that we can have an intelligent discussion about.

That is, but one of the many so-called privileges, that the T.Baggers claimed to be owed. The biggest one is the idea that they can live in this great country of ours and think that they don't have to pay for that privilege. I am on a fixed income and I gladly pay my taxes. In the history of my working years, I have never itemized my taxes and I am proud to state that fact. A CBS/Times poll, sorry but I cannot take any poll they do seriously. And I would say the same about a poll from Fox news. I will stick with the Gallup and Rasmussen polls about the Tea Party. Especially after reading how the mainstream media has shown their bias against anything to do with the Tea Party Movement. For all of you members of the lunatic fringe on the left I have one word for you, midterm. Keep right on with the childish names. The reports of a leader in a liberal organization along with the Service Employee Union International stating that they are in the business of infiltrating the Tea Party Movement just so they can make the Movement members look crazy. Obama has accomplished one great thing so far that is he has made more of the voters pay close attention to what is going on in the political world.

As usual your latest rant does not make a whole lot of sense. Although I do not know much about the "Teabaggers" I never heard they claimed they were owed the privilege of having Medicare Advantage coverage which was passed and signed into law by Democratic President Bill Clinton. The other comment is that the so called "Teabaggers" live in this country and to not pay for the "privilege" to do so. Are you accusing members of the group of paying NO taxes? And I do not understand what you mean by charging "Teabaggers" and I presume others for the "Privilege" of of living in the United States. Does this mean just general income and other taxes or are you advocating a special tax on them? I congratulate you for being a hard worker and paying your taxes. But just because some one itemizes their taxes does not make them bad or dishonest as you seem to suggest. When someone has to itemize their taxes that means they are declaring additional income or expenses and not that they are making false claims. I am sorry you have a problem with this but that is in the United States and Individual State Tax Codes passed by our elected representatives and signed into law by Presidents or Governors. Unfortunately there are people that cheat on their taxes but the vast majority of us out here do Not. We, like it seems you do, pay our taxes. Don, may I suggest that if you are so upset over legal tax shelters and loopholes, and I think one can make a good argument against tax shelters, that you support a "Flat Tax" where everyone pays the same percentage of their income. A "Flat Tax" would do away with tax shelters and write offs and have a straight tax. And it would probably raise more tax revenue. It has been proposed in Congress but both parties have voted it down.

TEA Party Poll
Just as a ham sandwich can be indicted with a little effort, any poll can be skewed depending on the pre-conceived notions of the poll takers, the wording of the questions, the tone of the questioners, etc.
With that in mind, when a political poll is conducted by CBS News and the New York Times it’s immediately suspect. When the subject of that poll is the participants in the TEA Party phenomenon now sweeping the nation, one should always take the results with a hefty grain of salt.
Nevertheless, the results are interesting even given the decidedly leftist nature of the pollsters.
Based on 1580 respondents in a random telephone sample. of whom 56% were TEA Party supporters, the poll was conducted April 5th-12th. Some of the highlights: . . .

The purpose of our government is to exercise only those limited powers that have been relinquished to it by the people, chief among these being the protection of our liberties by administering justice and ensuring our safety from threats arising inside or outside our country’s sovereign borders. When our government ventures beyond these functions and attempts to increase its power over the marketplace and the economic decisions of individuals, our liberties are diminished and the probability of corruption, internal strife, economic depression, and poverty increases.
Economic Freedom
The most powerful, proven instrument of material and social progress is the free market. The market economy, driven by the accumulated expressions of individual economic choices, is the only economic system that preserves and enhances individual liberty. Any other economic system, regardless of its intended pragmatic benefits, undermines our fundamental rights as free people.

CNN post on their site that based on their poll, about 10% of Americans are Tea Bagger. I laughed so hard. . .because at the end of the paragraph, the survey was based on asking roughly 1,000 people. So, 10% of 1,000 is about 100 people. Somehow 100 people represent 10% of Americans. Yet, Obama's supporters number 40-60 millions plus the consolidation of Mrs. Clinton's supporter in 2012. Sure, the Tea Baggers will have a victory here and there. . .just as even a blind squirrel can find a few nuts here and there.
