The Obamas will honor Sir Paul McCartney with a concert at the White House next week.
The June 2 concert in the East Room will celebrate the ex-Beatle as he's awarded the 3rd Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress. The prize commemorates American songwriters George and Ira Gershwin and is a sort of lifetime achievement honor.
For McCartney, it might also mark the achievement of a very public goal. The vocal Obama fan has said he wants to serenade First Lady Michelle Obama with, of course, "Michelle." And McCartney reportedly dedicated the song to Michelle Obama during a Washington-area concert.
The White House concert will be taped and broadcast on PBS stations on July 28.

Rock on, Sir Paul
I think it's about time we honor the late great John Lennon too.

ugh... McCartney is a tool. He was always my least favorite Beatle, and now he believes his own hype and thinks he's the reincarnation of Mozart.
.
I'll give him his due: he's definitely more an Irving Berlin than a Mozart. And there is no dishonor in that, in being a journeyman Pop tunesmith. Just don't try to pretend you're something you're not, 'Sir' Paul.

The most over-rated of the Beatles singing to the most over-rated President funded by you and I, not once, but twice - filmed by PBS. Good thing there is money to blow.

This would be a great time for Crazy Sarah and The Todd to honor their pals at British Petroleum.
"For eighteen years, [Todd Palin] worked for BP in the North Slope oil fields of Alaska. In 2007, in order to avoid a conflict of interest relating to his wife's position as governor, he took a leave from his job as production supervisor when his employer became involved in natural gas pipeline negotiations with his wife's administration. Seven months later, because the family needed more income, Todd returned to BP. In order to avoid potential conflict of interest, this time he accepted a non-management position as a production operator. He resigned from his job on September 18, 2009, with the stated reason of spending more time with his family."

No wonder obama and his buddies had such a horrible response to the oil spill, they were planning a party to honor their supporters. Who cares that the economy is in the tank, taxes are going up, states are on the verge of banruptcy, states are boycotting each other, unemployment is at 10%.
With these incompetents at the wheel, maybe having Mexico tell us what to do is the least of our worries.
Hey, maybe mccartney will play a song to sum up the obama administration - something like "Back in the USSR" or "Everybody 's got something to hide except me and my monkey".
Transparency, Bipartisianship, etc. - all lies!

McCartney was a great Beatle and is a very talented musician. He's much more successful and has made much more money than anyone who posts here ever will. Get over it crybaby losers.

Way to team Conservative. Two overtly racist posts (libtard and worsethanbefore).
According to Swamp reader's posts, I can surmise 3 things:
1) Republicans are racist
2) Republicans are pro oil spill
3) Republicans think Paul was the worst Beatle even though anyone with half a brain knows the worst was Ringo.
Way to go. Feel good about yourselves. You don't know anything about music, science or politics. Be proud of your ignorance and wear it like a crown.

Just wanted to complain that some of my posts have not shown up. Such censorship is proof positive that The Swamp is a radical Conservative rag.

Uggh,
I'll take Ringo's post-Beatle songs over the top 40 drivel of Paul any day of the week.
Worse than Before,
Don't forget, he will have to play "Taxman":
"Let me tell you how it will be;
There's one for you, nineteen for me"
"Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don't take it all."
if you drive a car, car;) - I'll tax the street;
(if you try to sit, sit;) - I'll tax your seat;
(if you get too cold, cold;) - I'll tax the heat;
(if you take a walk, walk;) - I'll tax your feet
And you're working for no one but me.
Taxman!

hey uggh,
Looks like you're sticking to the democrat strategy of throwing out insults and claiming racism.
What was racist about my post?
What was pro oil spill?
Seems you can't defend the lies of your boy so you just spew insults.
The oil spill happened on obama's watch and he's shown his incompetence with the lack of response.
Are you saying the Beatles are racist because they mention a monkey in their song? If so, is obama honoring another racist (seems a lot of his buddies and mentors sure were).
For the record - I don't like the beatles and thought they were overrated and over played.
Although I did enjoy seeing that hooker take half of McCartney's money - and he shouldn't be upset either - think of it as wealth distrution!

Terry, Paulo, Reality Czech, Fellow Detractors of The For REAL Great Paul McCartney
My take, for what little it is surely worth, is that Paul McCartney is a decent, classy guy. He, like me, is not above performing a song entitled “Michelle” for someone named “Michelle”.
McCartney has gotten himself wrapped up with the PETA people over the years but for the most part he seems to not get too involved in politics. I have had to come to terms with the unholy alliance of musicians with politicians and can respect their right to be Awesome, Leftist, and Wrong. It really no longer bothers me as long as they do not take it into Kayne West - Dixie Chicks - Streisand mean-spirited AND ignorant territory. The current WH occupant is without class. I don't hold that against McCartney.
Here’s something that Liberals have unabated passion for ~ "a link". This "link" is to my musician friend, Tom Rasely.
http://www.rasely.com/music.htm
Tom is an AWESOME guitar player. He makes truly fantastic music with his classical guitar. Tom and his friend Scott Adams have also played at the White House. Unfortunately, he played for George Bush 41. My good friend, Tom, a democrat from upstate NY, is STILL haunted by this stain on his professional life as a musician. Political ideology should not run this deep. Well, that’s just me. Toby Keith sings Republican but is actually a democrat, so he says. I personally do not have a problem with that.
I understand the McCartney criticisms over the years, and the Irving Berlin comparison, as well. I have a great version of “Blue Skies” that I am quite proud of, but have otherwise thought that unlike the great George Gershwin, I.B. was over-rated.
My best guitar teacher, Dave W., was a graduate of Berklee School of Music. He spent a year playing in taverns and clubs in England in the 70s. He bequeathed me with a great arrangement of “Yesterday”. It has broken chords, diminished chords, maj. 7s, 7 flat 9s, octaves (a little Wes Montgomery flavor), thirds, a suspended 9th, and a key modulation. If he had not arranged it in the key of C with a G introduction, I probably could not manage it. It only took me about 5 years to perfect it. The melody never disappears. The pretty Latinas love my McCartney stuff ~ “Girlfriend”, “Magneto and Titanium Man”, “Jet”, “She’s My Baby”, etc. To me, for me, McCartney is truly a great musician and seemingly a decent and classy guy.
As for Dave, we often speculated on a celestial jam with Hendrix, Elvis, Marvin, Lennon, Morrison, and Wes. I will forever miss Dave and our jams. I will always treasure his great arrangement of “Yesterday”. EZ on the Mac.

@HHH
Because Justin Bieber has no talent, and Paul Mccartney does have talent. Deal with it. You obviously have a poor taste in music.
