President Barack Obama today called an attempted bombing in Times Square, New York "another sobering reminder of the times in which we live.''
It was both the vigilance of private citizens and effective cooperation of law enforcement authorities that interrupted the attempted attack and led to the swift arrest of a suspect, he said.
"The suspect is now in custody and is being questioned,'' Obama said at the start of a speech on the economy at the Business Council. The FBI and their partners in the investigation have "all the tools'' they need to determine if the suspect acted in concert or alone, he said.
"Justice will be done, and we will continue to do everything in our power to protect the American people,'' Obama said. "This incident is another sobering reminder of the times in which we live.'' Terrorists stand ready to kill innocent Americans, he said. "They will stop at nothing to (disrupt) our way of life.''
But once again, he said, an attempted attack has failed because citizens were "vigilant'' and authorities acted. "The suspect has been apprehended because of close'' work at every level of law enforcement.
"New Yorkers have reminded us once again of how to live with our heads held high,'' Obama said. "As Americans and as a nation, we will not be terrorized. We will not cower in fear... we will work together.''

Comments
This has been a relatively flawless response from the White House and Obama to the NYC scare. Hard to imagine critics bashing him after such a harrowing incident and with no cracks in the administration response.

I find it curious that for more than seven years after 9/11 the Bush administration was able to keep us safe and there weren't any near misses with terror attacks on U.S. soil or even successful ones (Ft. Hood). But in the past year, it's nearly open season on the U.S., with this near bombing and loss of innocent life prevented by American citizens and incompetent terrorists. This is the fourth near attack or successful attack on our soil within the past year? I thought being all lovey-dovey and making nice-nice with the terrorist kooks was going to pay off? I thought Bush-era tactics recruited terrorists and made us less safe? So far, the FACTS prove otherwise. Bush-era tactics did keep us SAFE and had no effect on terrorist recruitment, except perhaps for keeping them at bay. Now that we are weak and even afraid to call terrorist acts, terrorist acts or terrorists, terrorists, it is open season on the U.S. And terrorists seem to be coming out of the woodwork like the little termites that they are.

One is almost tempted to say, "Osama, is that all ya got?"
Almost.
Anyway, JD, it's all pretty much a numbers game.
Back in the 19th century, there were the anarchists.
Who used dynamite.
Planted big bombs on Wall St., in opera houses, etc.
Big bombs that didn't fail to go off.
Their crusade was somewhat less religious than the current one of the Bearded Ones.....
And yet somehow, the world went right along....
And started World War I, which did way more damage than the bombs on Wall St. and in the opera houses.....
So, history does repeat itself.

Anyone wondering why little JohnnyD is only a wannabe journalist just needs to look at his latest falsehoods. Facts tend to get in the way of Mr. Dingbats rants. Here's some of the domestic terrorist attacks that occurred under Shrub, outside of the worst attack ever that he was warned about (9/11): 2001 Anthrax attacks; 2001 Richard Reid, the shoe bomber; 2002 El Al ticket counter at LAX (the Bush Justice Dept., in 2004, deemed release a report that stated this was an international act of terrorism); 2002 DC Sniper attacks; and 2006 Univ. of North Carolina SUV attack, where the culprit claimed to be emulating his hero Mohammad Atta. Once again, johnd is wrong again!

Muhammad John D,
You pray to the same god as the terrorists. And the Jews.
No wonder you're so full of hate. You have to live with this bizarre unholy trinity of hate knowing that you're praying to the same god as your own enemies.

Great job by law enforcement to catch this guy.

Neal, dear, the sniper attacks in 2002 were not Al Qaeda or Islam-related. It was a nut and a kid shooting people. Just like all the nuts shooting people in Chicago on a regular basis. The Anthrax attacks happened right on the heels of 9/11, and again had no Al Qaeda link. Apparently is was the work of some bureaucraticl kook, not all that different than the Unabomber. Richard Reid's attempt at blowing up an airplane occurred over international waters on a flight to the U.S. The most recent Islamonut who tried to blow up a plane, well his daddy even went to the U.S. embassy to warn us and nothing happened. The University of North Carolina SUV attack? Now, that did have Islamonut connections, but was the work of one man. So far, under Obimbo, we've had someone who was e-mailing Al Queda terrorists in Yemen and spouting anti-U.S. BS who then went on to shoot American service personnel at Ft. Hood. We had one guy whom tried to blow up a plane in which his dad tried to warn the U.S. about to no avail. We had another guy try to blow up Times Square after spending months in Pakistan getting training and then almost getting away even though the authorities were out trying to get him!!!
I'm surprised you didn't blame Bush for the college shootings at Virginia Tech and NIU!!
Neal, the Brain Dead Lefty Loon, and the rest of the Demented Lefty Loons: Wrong as usual. What new??

John D apparently thinks that the thing terrorists fear most is being called terrorists, and if you do that all will be saved. Of course, this bit of idiocy is overshadowed by his ignorance of the fact that the administration is indeed calling this an attempted terrorist attack.

I think law enforcement did a pretty good job; however before all you loons go and pat the BO Regime on the back for a great job, answer one question:
How did this guy get on an airplane after he was put on the no-fly list?
Also, it wasn't hard to catch a moron that waited around for over a day before leaving town. A smart terrorists would have hailed a cab and been to JFK and on his flight with a couple of hours and not days.

You must mean planes that blew up from the sky after 9/11? It was never solved.
You must mean Richard Reed who failed to ignite his shoe bomb after 9/11?
I see what you mean. Wheew. . those weren't near misses at all.

What is the difference between a terrorist and an ordinary murderer? Does a person have to belong to a group? How do we characterize terrorism?. ........

"The no-fly list failed to keep the Times Square suspect off the plane. Faisal Shahzad had boarded a jetliner bound for the United Arab Emirates Monday night before federal authorities pulled him back." - AP
The system worked again, eh Janet?
Bloomberg is still convinced it's a tea partier. The only thing missing for this cast of clowns is their own sitcom.

I guess this gets Bill Ayers off the hook.
I wonder what Mayor Bloomberg has to say about his boneheaded comment: "Homegrown maybe a mentally deranged person or someone with a political agenda that doesn’t like the health care bill or something".
Perhaps the mayor should have connected the dots that the car bomb was parked within a block of Viacom's headquarters.

Rodney, actually the administration still finds it difficult to say the words "Islamic terrorist attack." Neither Obimbo nor Napolitano ever noted "Islamic" in this most recent case. In the case of the attempted airplane bomber at Christmas, it took several days before any Obimbo shaministration incompetent uttered words such as "terrorist" "attempted terrorist attack," and again had difficulty mentioning the fact the man was Islamic. Sort of like with the Ft. Hood shooter. Again, links to Islam were downplayed and covered up. Could explain why so many military folk who knew of Major Hasan's anti-U.S. hatred and mutterings of Islamic kook talk went unreported. They were all afraid of being branded as racist or bigoted. So, the Left's motto is "Protect the Islamic Nuts at All Cost. Let Innocent Americans Die Instead!!" What new? It figures.

Connecting the Terror Dots
Dave Letterman has been getting a lot of mileage, and a lot of laughs, out of the Gulf oil disaster that killed 11 Americans and which is an environmental catastrophe. On Monday, he began milking the Times Square failed terrorist attack for all the yuks it was worth. On Tuesday, he linked the two, asking the rhetorical and inane question, Which is worse?
For Mr. Letterman’s edification, what happened to British Petroleum’s offshore oil rig was, apparently, a deadly accident. What happened Saturday in the crowded “Crossroads of the World” was just one more in a series of planned but fortunately foiled terror attacks on our homeland.
Neither should be a source of amusement even for Letterman.
What is also not amusing is the recent escalation of successful and unsuccessful Islamic terrorist attacks–there, I’ve said it, Mr. Obama!–on American soil, an escalation which should give pause to those who refuse to admit we’re in an undeclared war on terrorism, or that the United States is in imminent danger. . .

Terry, I heard that quote from Bloomberg. What a jacka$$.
-------
John D., the left is just concerned that if they call this what it is, there is a risk that people will demonize all Muslims because of the actions of a few nuts. Everyone knows you can only do that with TEA parties.
