Former President George W. Bush is enjoying retirement. But he wants you to know that he has been quite busy since leaving the White House last year, and discusses his activities in a posting on his new Facebook page.
In what he calls his "Inaugural Address" on the social networking site, Bush promotes his work raising money for earthquake relief in Haiti and his upcoming memoir, but it's the work of the George W. Bush institute that gets most attention.
"I may be done with politics. But I am not done with policy," says the 43rd president, looking a tan and rested.
The institute is focusing on four subject areas: education reform, global health, economic growth and human freedom. You can read the full transcript of his remarks after the jump.
Thanks for tuning in to my inaugural address -- on Facebook. I've been touched by the outpouring of interest. I am pleased to report that Laura and I are happy, healthy and home here in the great state of Texas -- or as I call it, the Promised Land. Serving as president was the honor of a lifetime, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to represent the nation I love.Retirement isn't so bad either.
The day after I left office i started writing my book, which will hit the shelves on November the 9th. along with President Bill Clinton, I'm raising money for earthquake relief in Haiti. And I'm working on my presidential center at Southern Methodist University here in Dallas. The center will include the archives of my presidency, and a museum. It also includes the George W. Bush institute.
As I tell people, I may be done with politics. But I am not done with policy. Our building won't be complete until 2013 but the Institute is up and running. We're promoting practical initiatives in four key areas: education reform, global health, economic growth and human freedom. We have an exciting women's initiative, which focuses on empowering women in the Middle East. In all we do at the Institute, we are guided by the firm belief in the power of freedom to promote peace and prosperity, both at home and abroad.
To learn more about the Bush Center please click on the links on this page, and stay tuned for future postings. I encourage you to share your ideas on how to promote the mission of the institute, and on what American needs to do to remain a beacon of freedom and opportunity and hope.
Thanks for your interest and support. God bless you.

Bush didn't even come close to "keeping us safe". He ignored pre 9/11 warnings that said Bin Laden was determined to attack inside the US.
There's a very good reason why Republicans are now desperately trying to make people forget about Bush's disastrous presidency - they cheerleaded for every single thing he did.

Majority Of Americans Rightfully Blame George Bush For Our Current Economic Troubles: 75 pct On Economy
http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2010/04/blame_george_bush_75_pct_on_ec.html
And the 25% that don't blame Shrub Jr for the economic meltdown would be the deadender Republican base. Or as they like to be called nowadays: "Teabaggers".

He should go back into business. Became a Texas business tycoon. I mean he was such a innovative business type...failed at every endeavor he ever undertook. Go back to daddy's ranch and play cowboy. Oh, wait a minute, that was a glorified photo op.

An inaugural address by this guy is an insult to the presidency.
And he shouldn't be touting his "relief work" in Haiti when he wiped his hand on Clinton's shirt after one of "those people" in the crowd touched him.
Some people got all the nerve...

So sad that so many Repubs turn their backs on black, asian and hispanic candidates in favor of their usual angry old rich white guys with fat wallets (Bush, Cheney, McCain etc). It's a race thing with them.

Initially, you wonder why he doesn't just keep his mouth shut.
Then, you realize:
They don't call it the Bush Dynasty for nothing.
He's a dynast.
He wants to be Godfather now to Jebidiah.
Just like Billy Clinton wanted to be eminence grise to Hillary.
