The Swamp

by Mike Memoli

Longtime readers of this blog have no doubt noticed the departure of longtime chief Mark Silva. Today I have the privilege of taking over the reins of The Swamp and working with the great team here in the Tribune Washington Bureau to bring you the latest news from the nation's capital.

In the coming days, weeks and months we intend to step up our game, especially as we head into the Midterm Elections. I welcome your comments and suggestions about what you'd like to see. Feel free to post them below or e-mail me directly.

I'd also invite those who aren't regular readers to bookmark this site, subscribe to our RSS feed and also follow us on Twitter.

I don't have any ideas of my own. But somebody told me that all I have to do is copy and paste stuff from other blogs and I'll look smart.
...
So, now everybody in the Swamp thinks I'm a loser, huh? HA!! No WAY!! Look at me here. Can a loser dance like this?

PS: I love Justin Bieber OXOXOXOXOX!!!

That's ok Mike, I pretty much don't know what to say about anything relating to politics until Rush tells me what to think. And Rush is on vacation this week so I don't know what right wing talking points to mindlessly repeat......I mean, say.

I guess I'll have to check in with Glenn B, he always knows what I should be thinking....I mean, saying.

You might consider reining in the troll once known as 'HHH' (and god knows how many other post names). You can see 2 examples of his "wit" in the first 2 posts. You'd better establish some ground rules if you hope to salvage what's left of this blog.

NO TROLLING should become a rule. Check the IP addresses for the last week or so. You'll see that 90% of the trolling and 100% of the obscenity has been from one source.

H3 is a nutbag. Even his parents are getting ready to boot him out of the basement and make him get a job.

Needs moar Justin Bieber like we were promised.

Needs less Sarah "Mama Grizzly" Palin "Hockey Mom" Dog and Pony Beauty Pageant Show for $100,000 please.

MM,
You have some big shoes to fill. Mark was doing superman duty, virtually alone.
Good luck, and I look forward to seeing what shakes out.

(Try instant posting.)

Better yet, try a "REPORT ABUSE" button.

Many will find this hard to believe, but I agree with CM - try instant posting. The vulgarity can always be deleted also.

"Just sayin' ", "Libtard" and "worsethanbefore" are all the same person. If you're going to clean up the Swamp the least you can do is cut off this right wing troll (who has two ip addresses by the way).

I don't know about those "abuse" buttons.

I notice several anti-Hillary posters all of a sudden were banned from HuffP in April 08 just as the campaign was heating up.....Infiltrators from Hill?

Where is Mark Silva now?

Ornery,
Silva is with Bloomberg News

Your wrong as usual, 'HHH''. I'm not Libtard or worsethanbefore.

The purpose of a "free press" really means that the media is responsible for finding the truth. The truth is important because it is a matter of life or death for some. The truth is important because it is a matter of justice for some. The truth is important so that our government stays honest to its people. The list goes on and on. . .
...

In these past decade years, the media has been a disservice to the public. Never questioning or exposing the fallacy of the wars; never questioning policies; never dissecting the issues. In matter fact, I blame the media for doing a poor job informing the public. This led to the collapsed of the market, wars, regulations, and the rise of the extremist Right. If the media would have just done a better job; understanding its roles and responsibilities. We may have avoided these calamities. I, sincerely, hope the Swamp will continue the tradition of "free press."
---

My point is that it is almost ridiculous when all these so--called "expert" comes after the disasters and claim: I told you so! The question has always been, where were the media before this happen? Where were the media before the oil spill? Did anyone question the poor regulation? Where were the media before the two wars? Now, we can't even figure a way out. Where were the media when the extremists started to take over the Republican Party? Wow! Liberty will indeed die without "free speech."

I like reading HHH. He is very funny. . .because he makes people on the Right twitch. Without HHH, this blog would be so boring. We'll just hear the same Right Wing Propaganda flood the Swamp. I don't mind having the Left, Moderate, & Right being opinionated.
--

Just like the rest of the other media blogs. Analysis of the internet blogs would probably conclude it is a Right Wing strategy used, often, to flood the blog to thinking it is mainstream view. I mean the Tea Party is about 1% of the population. Is the Tea Party a mainstream view? Nope! But they sure are loud! The Media covers them like Prime Time. What the heck? There are 99% of other Americans. It is a dangerous precedent for the Media not to expose the Tea Party and what their ideology really stands for!

I don't object to anybody being opinionated, and and think everybody else agrees.
.
We do object to a single troll FLOODING most of every thread with unoriginal, juvenile copy&pasted insults and (lately) crude obscenities while hiding behind so many fake post names they can't be counted.
.
There's nothing productive about that. If you really think it's funny, you must be as stupid and perverted as he is.
.
There used to be some intelligent, well spoken people (Right & Left) who visited the blog regularly. 'HHH' has played a major role in chasing them away. I'm sure he's proud of himself. We're all hoping that Mike Memoli, in turn, chases 'HHH' away. Or brings him under control.

I am Libtard and only post as such. dont lump me in with the HHH's of this world and others that change their Names. I am Libtard I am proud and I am Strong EEEEEEEEEERRRGHHHH!!!

One of the reasons Huff took off and became popular was that comments went up reasonably promptly and there was dialog (of a sort).

Now of course there are a lot of silly one sentence in-joke type of comments there that are a waste of time.

You really need to find some way to update in the evenings and weekends, when I think most people interested in this site are really looking at it.

Spot on.

It's the real me, not HHH. Speeding up the posting time is a must. Otherwise, you have lag time of up to 2 days. I realize this may be burdensome, but it makes for a blog.

You could also stop posters from trolling. That would be great.
