President Obama will tour the Ford plant on the south side of Chicago next week to talk about the recovery of the auto industry and the importance of investing in energy-efficient vehicles.
The visit Thursday, Aug. 5 will include a conversation with workers at the plant, where Ford officials recently announced plans to add 1,200 new jobs.
The company has been retrofitting its Torrence Avenue plant to manufacture the redesigned Explorer sport utility vehicle for several months now. The new Explorer is supposed to go on sale later this year.
Ford is investing in its Illinois operations to help launch the smaller, more fuel-efficient SUV, assisted by Department of Energy loan guarantees to companies that invest in clean energy upgrades.

Illinois officials also claim credit for the addition of jobs, attributing it to a new state tax credit for businesses that invest in Illinois. Gov. Patrick Quinn, Obama's fellow Illinois Democrat, was at the plant for the announcement of the expansion back in January.
In addition to the Explorer, the plant also recently added the new Taurus and the Lincoln MKS to its production lines.
That night, Obama will headline a Chicago fundraiser for Alexi Giannoulias, the Democratic nominee for Obama's old Senate seat. Giannoulias is in a tight race with Republican Rep. Mark Kirk.

Comments
For those of you who are having trouble keeping track of Mark Kirk's lies, here's a list (so far):
As of about a week ago, the list was up to twelve separate incidents: Kirk (1) falsely claimed he served "in" Operation Iraqi Freedom; (2) falsely claimed to "command the war room in the Pentagon"; (3) falsely claimed to have won the U.S. Navy's Intelligence Officer of the Year award; (4) falsely claimed to have been shot at by the Iraqi Air Defense network; (5) falsely claimed to be a veteran of Desert Storm; (6) falsely claimed to be the only lawmaker to serve during Operation Iraqi Freedom; and (7) falsely claimed to have been shot at in Kosovo; and (8) falsely claimed to have been shot at in Kandahar. (9)the deployment debunking, in which Kirk repeatedly claims his annual training missions are deployments. The Navy begs to differ. (10), we now have confirmation from the DOD that Kirk had violated Pentagon policy by conducting partisan political activity while on active duty, which Kirk has strenuously denied, even to the point of claiming that the Obama administration altered his record. (11) the nursery school where he didn't teach. (12) and where he didn't have students bringing guns to class.
And now we can add #13 to Kirk's long list of lies.

Mark Kirk is not only a serial liar, he’s also a hypocrite.
Kirk, an in the closet homosexual, voted against repealing DADT. So anotherwords, Mark Kirk voted to continue kicking people out of the military who are like – Mark Kirk.

As usual the Swamp only gets part of the Obama visit story. On August 4th, the day before the visit to the Ford Plant and Fund raiser for Alexi Giannoulias, Real Estate Mogul Neil Bluhm is throwing a private birthday bash for President Obama who will be turning 49 years old. The Dinner invite to the Obama Birthday Bash at Bluhm's home requires a $30,000 donation to the Democratic National Committee. I wonder if Rob or HHH or Don Fitzgerald are going?

This morning on GMA BO stated that during the past few years he and Michelle's investments, including the daughters' college funds, have taken some losses. I wonder if the Obama's invested for the childrens' college thru Illinois' Bright Start Fund. Canidate Alexi, as Illinois Treasurer, is estimated to have lost up to $150 million in Bright Start funds. Wonder if any of that money was the Obamas?

A more efficient SUV? Methinks 'less inefficient SUV' would be more accurate. People who should be driving cars should not be driving small trucks euphemistically dubbed 'SUV's.

So wait... Obama is toiuring a Ford plant, the lone domestic automaker that didn't take federal money, and talk about the recovery of the auto industry? Then Quinn wants to get in on the action too, claiming responsibility for the new jobs created? Have they no shame?

Obama will headline a Chicago fundraiser for Alexi Giannoulias. One Chicago hack propping up another.
.
So what's worse, exaggerating one's military experience or bankrolling gangsters? Hmmm...that's a tough one, but I think we sane people have to say the latter is worse.
.
@ "Rob" The Basement Troll:
I don't think you should be slamming Kirk about serving. At least he did SOMETHING. Remember when pretended you volunteered to fight in Iraq a few years ago?

Next thing is Obama saying he won the Iraq war. And the libs eating it up.

Another Kirk lie is his claim to swimming 1 mile in 42 degree water. Ask any medical professional, that is humanly impossible.
Kirk is a fraud and a pathological liar.

"depot jim", re: the $30,000 a plate Obama dinner The Swamp won't mention, did you actually think the one-party media would mention a story that might embarrass their Chosen One?
Posted by: NOT on JournoList | July 24, 2010 12:34 PM
I don't need to keep track of Kirk's lies. A lair is a liar and I won't vote for him. Of course, the alternatives are not much better.

People who have been reading The Swamp for a while will remember when "Rob" The Basement Troll's main post name was John E. Here's a gem from almost 4 years ago:

So "Rob", how did you manage to post 30 times per day in the Swamp for the past 4 years--without an interruption--while shooting it out with the insurgents? Musta been rough. .
.
Gee, I can see why you're so brave on this blog, being a heroic soldier and all. And your penchant for adopting female post names doesn't mean your not all man, no sir-ee!

Why don't you share some of your war adventures with us? I'm sure you have some really thrilling stories about you and GI Joe in the backyard sandbox.

Someone should ask Obama why he believes it is fair to cheat the GM bondholders!
The bondholders got nothing why the UAW received favorite treatment.

It will be very interesting to see how the President is received in his home state during such a politically and economically tough time for the state.

Just sayin, an excellent recollection!! I had forgotten that the troll who still lives in mummy's and daddy's basement once said he was being deployed to Iraq!
Anyway, Rob, er HHH, er former republican, er John E., er Dumb Dumb Janet, this item has nothing to do with Mark Kirk yet you pedal the same BS you lifted from the dailykook or wherever.
Anyway, Kirk still served time in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo. Whether serving there or deployed there, big deal. He also did command the Pentagon War Room. That he didn't is a lie pedaled by the BS artists known as the Loony Left. Kirk still won a military intelligence award. His plane may not have been directly shot at, but other planes among the ones he was in were shot at in Kosvo and Iraq. And, yes, Mark Kirk did teach a nursery school class. That he didn't is another BS tale pedaled by the Alexi Dyslexi people to the FIBune's own former gadfly and now NY Lhying Times reporter Jeff "Zany" Zeleny.
And I do find it interesting he is touring a Ford plant. After all, Ford never took one penny from the moron, is still a private company and has been kicking butt against the government-run GM and Chrysler.

Well, J S, there is an interesting feature on the PBS NewsHour (formerly McNeil/Lehrer) where they show the photos and home towns and names of the casualties in the on-going wars.
Very few Mark Kirk types.
A lot of "green card Marine" types.
Also, a lot of kids from small town America for whom the military is the only "career path" available....
Which is another reason I find Kirk's appropriating military honors he didn't receive or earn, to be a disqualification.

Maybe it's a matter of perspective, ornery. You see exaggerating actual military service on a resume as a worse political sin than being a shady banker. I don't.
.
But then maybe your perspective is skewed by your Democratic partisanship.
.
Posted by: Just sayin' | July 25, 2010 2:54 PM
Ornery,
Were there any Alexi types? Any of those Marines come from a background of bankrupting banks or coming from families that bilk their bank of millions in dollars before turning it over to the tax payers?
Posted by: Terry | July 25, 2010 3:25 PM
Ya gotta love the brain-dead Left. Somehow a few stupid and unnecessary military embellishments becomes a disqualification. Yet, a mob banker who gave bad loans to convicted felons and who has a connection with convicted felon Tony Rezko, is A-OK, or at least not a disqualification. And, did I happen to mention the fact that the treasurer of Illinois has never said one peep about the precarious situation of said state nor its ability, or lack thereof, to pay its bills? Or how about the $100 million he lost in the Bright Start program? Funny, those REAL and SERIOUS issues become nothing more than needless crumbs to the uncaring loons on the Left.
But a 16-year-old fighting for his life in 56-degree waters, according to City of Chicago records for that day, and not 42 degrees suddenly becomes a big deal! Was Kirk rescued by the Coast Guard? Yes. Was he taken to the hospital and treated for hypothermia? Yes.
The brain-dead left: just like brain-dead roadkill.

Speaking of Obama . . .
America's Enemy Within
Precisely who originated the term “the enemy within” is unclear. It has now become fairly commonplace in our vernacular and has been referred to in a religious context, as partial titles of some books such as Michael Savage’s, even used as a title episode in “Star Trek.”
With reference to America’s internal, domestic enemies, “the enemy within” is at once a very simple and complex term which has in the past referred to the Communist menace but has evolved of late to mean the religion of Islam or, to be PC, radical Islamic elements.
America has any number of enemies, both outside our borders and within, nations, people, and forces who despise us for one reason or other and who passively or actively work to undermine our values, national security, our very existence as a nation.
Communism is not quite dead since it lives and breathes in China, North Korea, and Cuba and a former KGB head Vladimir Putin rules the former U.S.S.R. with figurehead, Dmitry Medvedev. However, despite the natural inclinations of Communist despots to bluster threateningly, the Red Menace can’t be considered a viable threat.
As of now.
Far and away the most visible and serious external enemy America has today, as well as our most dedicated and dangerous enemy within, is extreme, radical Islam which is probably the most insidious domestic collection of foes we have ever encountered.
They are not traitors in the sense of France’s Vichy government . . .

" Pat H ", I guess it's the basic principle of economics. The union workers do all of the real work, they should receive consideration. Don't you think!! The shareholders have allowed the Robber Barons to suck the auto industry dry, as they did with the steel industry. Why? Your implications, within your questioning, is where you will find the answer to your own question. I hope you don't find that exercise to taxing !!

A vote for Alexi is a vote for a continued tradition of IL corruption. So if Obama supports him, he is obviously endorsing theft.. ie. see Chares Rangel... In the end Obama only wants to see his party in control so he can continue to do whatever he wants.
Posted by: conservativemaster | July 26, 2010 10:46 AM
Only a corrupt IL politician would view an endorsement from another corrupt IL politician as a positive.
Then again dems supported this trust fund baby whose only qualification for office was bankrolling mobsters, siphoning off millions from his family bank and then running it into the ground and leaving taxpayers to clean up the mess. Now we have the idiot in chief coming to town to support this behavior and he should know, he's been raised with his grandparents silver spoon, slid by on affirmative action programs, funnelled billions to his special interest supporters and could care less if he bankrupts this country.
Well at least the idiot in chief has a track record of showing up for the wrong or losing cause, even if some dopes are willing to pay 30K to get lied to.

It's now 2:05 PDT (4:05 CDT) and the Swamp hasn't posted a new article in three days. We want to hear about the leaked Afghan info, and/or about new Washington scandals. What gives? Is this the end? Has there been a lot of layoffs at the Trib? Or are you just lazy, and more so than Silva and Co.?
