President Obama sounded a note of cautious optimism about efforts to contain the Gulf oil spill, saying a new cap on the damaged well offers hope that the end of the crisis is near.
Speaking hours after BP reported that oil had stopped flowing from its Deepwater Horizon site, Obama said scientists were working to determine whether the new cap can be a viable long-term solution. Even if it could not permanently shut in the well, Obama said it could potentially capture nearly all of the oil that would flow.
"It's important that we don't get ahead of ourselves here," he added, stressing that more will be known after scientists complete their tests. He also said that while oil may stop flowing, work continues on efforts to clean affected beaches and compensate victims.
"Obviously we've still got a big job to do."
Obama spoke in the Rose Garden just before he planned to depart Washington for a weekend vacation with his family in Maine. In response to a question from a reporter, Obama said he could potentially visit the region again in the coming weeks.
Obama also told NBC in an interview Thursday that his family could vacation later this summer in the Gulf.

I'm glad to President "working night and day on it" Obama was able to find time between his golf outings to make this statement.

Mike, that's probably engineers doing the testing, not scientists.

Meanwhile, La Republican Governor Bobby Jindal is still show-boating by building sand berms (that are already sinking into the Gulf) even though he was told beforehand it would be a waste of time, money and effort.

Troll,
I'm glad that Republican Governor Bobby Jindal has stopped wasting La's time and money on political showboating, by building useless sand berms (ones that he should have built years ago if he actually thought they worked. They don't..).
So what do your other sock-puppets (Equal Time, Just sayin', Libtard, worsethanbefore, etc etc etc) think about this situation?....Oh yeah, they're all the same person: you.
Nevermind...

Obimbo still has no clue. He says the scientists (engineers, not scientists, by the way) were working to determine if the cap was a viable long-term solution. That simply is not the case. The cap IS NOT a viable long-term solution. It is there now as a temporary cap and to hopefully allow oil to be sent to ships on top. The LONG TERM solution is for the relief wells to be dug and working and then to close the damaged well with heavy mud and concrete.
Obimbo, Obozo, Oclueless, Onitwit once again has his information wrong. I guess that is what happens when you are on top of this issue night and day, huh???

Republican Orange John Boehner Announces Moratorium -- On All New Federal Regulation
Republicans are finally admitting what they want to do if they get returned to power (they won't) -- not that anybody will be surprised by their agenda. Greg Sargent:
A day after calling for repeal of the new financial regulatory reform bill, Republican John Boehner is going even further: He's calling for a moratorium on all new Federal regulations -- in the name of job creation.
Here's what Boehner told reporters moments ago, per a transcript that was sent my way:
"I think having a moratorium on new federal regulations is a great idea it sends a wonderful signal to the private sector that they're going to have some breathing room." said Boehner

Gee, that makes a whole lot of sense, doesn't it? Think of all the jobs we'd create if there were another couple dozen oil spills to clean up in the Gulf of Mexico. And if we could just have another financial calamity or two, the employment opportunities in TARPS 2, 3, and 4 would be just great for the American people.
Whatever we do, we shouldn't do something like extend unemployment benefits to people who can't find jobs. And we certainly shouldn't even consider aid to states to keep police officers and teachers on the job. And only an idiot would ever consider additional resources for things clean energy projects to rebuild our energy grid.....

I will not rest until the leak is plugged!
I will not rest until healthcare reform has been passed.
I will not rest until the 2nd stimulus starts creating jobs...Oh wait you can't have everything...

Not sure what is meant by "a viable long-term solution". My understanding is that the cap is something meant to temporarily stop the leak while a permanent solution is being worked on.
.
Oh, and Obamas vacationing in the Gulf region? That's gonna fix everything!

Hopefully we won't have to listen to the mouth-breathing Repugs apologizing to BP anymore now that oil well has been plugged.

It's a testament Obama's success that the best his loyal opposition can do for criticism is call him names and complain that he dares to spend a weekend with his family.
Bonus question for Equal Time: What is the name of the famous tree on the left side of the 17th fairway at Augusta National?
Double Bonus: Why does it have that name?

They won't vacation in the gulf - it was reported today that preparations are already being made on Martha's Vinyard for his return to the same place they vacationed last year. Then again he can tell NBC anything and they'll believe it.

@ a blinkin & Don (!!) Fitzgerald
.
You miss the point about vacationing (or not) in the gulf region.
.
The complaint is that this would be a nothing more than a cynical PR stunt; a photo op; a way to get video footage for fluffy campaign ads. It would't do anything whatsoever to improve the bad environmental/economic situation, because it really wasn't meant to.

As the Obama Regime bans deep wtaer off shore drilling, rigs are leaving the region and won't be coming back anytime soon - along with the jobs attached to those rigs.
If the Obama Regime is so against deep-water off-shore drilling, the why did the Export-Import bank lend Brazil's state-run Petrobras $2 billion dollars for deep-water drilling? Is the Brazilian environment more expendable than ours? Guess where some of those rigs leaving the Gulf of Mexico are heading. Why would the Obama Regime do this?
Could it be that George Soros, that big BO donor and backer, has sunk nearly a billion dollars into the Brazialian project?

Rob, Jindal didn't "stop" building the sand berms, he was ORDERED to stop by the Army Corps of Engineers and they revoked the permits.

Since when is a weekend out of town a "vacation"?
In olden times before air conditioning, lots of folks had some small cottage out of town to use every weekend during the hot months.
Anyway, at the first BP hearing in the Senate that witness from Texas A & M pretty much let the cat out of the bag when he volunteered that "one thing I know for sure" is that the leak will be stopped when the relief wells were completed.
Meaning, as I interpreted him at that time, that the leak will ONLY be stopped at that point....

Well, not me, a blinkin. I would never criticize Mustapha for taking a vacation. He does need to get out of the office more. Spend some time in New England. They no doubt love him very much up there.
He could work his way through the heartland. Slip on down thru upstate NY. Get some Hershey’s chocolate in PA. Visit steel town in OH. Travel thru MI, where they had at one time a left-handed way of making a man sign up for that automotive dream. Head off for Peoria, IL, mingle with the locals. How about that Winnebago place in Indy. Visit the Badlands of the Dakotas. Do some salmon fishing in ID, climb a mountain in WA. He could wrap it all up in Holleewood where his rich fans hang out. It could be like a Kerouac- Hemmingway-Springsteen kind of adventure across Amerika. The awl spill is what the awl spill is. Forgetabout that. It will take care of itself.
To do this right would take some time. 30 months would seem about right. I would “hope” that Mustapha would “dedicate” himself fully to this great road adventure. Take the 30 months and write another great book. He could call it “The Audacity of Some Strange Place Called America”. Won't nobody be any worse off.

Don you moron you missed the hypocrisy. Barry just got done telling America we should vacation in the Gulf and what does he do in typical hypocrite Barry fashion? He does the opposite of what he suggests we the people do. Worst lying hypocritical president ever!!!!

You being an authority on hypocrisy, " Lipturd ", I guess I should take your word for it, but that isn't even worth the letters you used to present it!! Enjoy the Obama Presidency!! It's only going to get better. Who knows, you may even vote for him, if you could get over your own hypocrisy !!
