The Swamp

by Mike Memoli

President Obama today goes to a sub shop in New Jersey and a daytime talk show set in New York as he looks to sell his message on the economy. Now, we can add Internet pitchman to the ubiquitous president's resume.

Laptop ready, Obama stars in a White House video on the major health site WebMD to explain to visitors how the administration's HealthCare.gov page, launched at the start of this month, works.

It's just the latest in a series of digital media pushes the administration has done months after the health care reform law was signed to prop up the legislation. Earlier this month, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius participated in an online town hall at WebMD, in addition to regular web chats at WhiteHouse.gov.

"The video comes as the Affordable Care Act is growing increasingly popular with the American people who are beginning to see the benefits of health reform," the White House advertised in announcing the video. A CNN poll last week found that 44 percent of Americans approved of Obama's handling of health care, while 54 percent disapproved.

Obama's next job: selling sham wow!

I'm kinda sick of hearing the same things all the time, he keeps saying employment is better. If that were true why are thousands still losing jobs not getting them. And I'm really tired of the blame game it was the previous presidents fault or the Repugs. Get over it, take some dam responsibility for your actions, and quit blaming everyone else. You should have quit listening to Rev.Jeremiah Wright along time ago, maybe you wouldn't be so enamored with blaming others. If you want people to except you, maybe you should listen to the people and do what they want for a change, and don't talk at them but to them. Maybe you should quit treating people like their beneath you as well. Try up holding The Constitution instead of changing it to fit your purposes.

Way to go, President Obama, you are proving to be one heck of a President, in my humble opinion. In spite of Corporate America's attacks and their hiring of character-assassins and liars. You have showed a lot of class, in the fact, that you haven't adopted their methods of intimidation and hypocrisy. After 18 months, in spite of the economy that the Cheney&Bush dropped on America and your Presidency, you have proven your mettle. In spite of all of those popularity contests, aka, polls, you haven't swayed to streamline you policies to gain more popularity. You have stayed the course and for that, you have earned my vote, again. You and Vice-President Biden continue to make me a proud American, again!!

"Obama Speaks" Just go to your doctor! Just not "shopping" Just go enjoy the love with your OB GYN! Just not in Arizona! No Notary, no "choice" for you state! YOU LIE! YOU LIE! Brown skin, Brown eye men, women, children "Trespassing in the GOP America First Degree. Please bring your (original) updated Birth Certificate, Drivers License, State issued ID, Senator Grassley "REAL ID" or two other forms of identification, Social Security Card, current "utility" bill or employment badge with picture of course! Just go to the doctor! Just don't go "shopping" it's now okay to go see a doctor! Ya enjoy that "preventative health care now." Ooops, i.e Arizona, please provide a current, bonded, signed and dated Jan Brewer "NOTARY." No Notary no CARE FOR YOU from the "Misguided State."

Former Democratic Crybaby,
You can apply the last half of your post to the former administration as well. You know the derelict Bush/ Cheney administration who lied to and deceived the American people and crybabies like yourself from the day the they got into office.
Unless you're a millionaire or billionaire, most politicians could care less about the ordinary folk.

Its not entirely obamas fault for blaming everyone else for whats wrong. Its a black thing. Its always someone elses fault when another gets gunned down even though they are in a gang. Its always someone elses fault when they can't or won't get a job. Its always someone elses fault when the prisons are over crowded with minorities. And the most unfortunate thing about the blame game is the liberals propegate it by telling them they are always right.

"Sham wow" I'd buy.
ObamaCare I wouldn't buy.
Because with "sham wow" at least you get value for your money.
The other difference is that "sham wow" has to pay for its ads. As you can see above, the DNC Swamp gives Obama free ads for ObamaCare.

President Obama needs to explain ObamaCare. There is a lot of confusion out here among individuals and companies on how it is going to work. Even people in the Health Insurance Industry are confused. It seem our Congress passed major legislation and they do not know all that is in this law. The President also needs to answer some questions many of us have out her. Is the coverage going to be better than what I have now? What is going to stop my employer dropping Health Coverage from paying the Federal Fine and telling us we have to get are own health insurance? If that happen will be paying higher premiums than I am now with my employer? Will we have enough Qualified Doctors to cover the 30 million new people being covered by the new law? Will overall Quality of Health Care that I have now go down with the new law? How will the country pay for this new Health Law? Will there be Big Tax Increases to pay for it? In conclusion, there is a lot of confusion and questions about this massive new Health Law. President Obama needs to be more straight forward than he has been so far and explain exactly what this law will do and what it will not do. It seems the the Public and the Congress that actually enacted this law does not know exactly what was passed.

I don't know if I laughed harder on Sham Wow or Don Fitz's rant.

Donny that statement made me laugh so hard tears were dropping!
Wow, well back to the View
starring this week, Dr. Obama.

Doug R,
Thank you so much for pointing out as well that the Rep. are not any better at being President then the current one. But being a former Dem. I knew that. I am very thankful to be Independent now, the name calling must be a Rep. or Dem thing.

Health Care Reform Continues To Gain In Popularity

"A majority of Americans express familiarity with a wide range of provisions of the new health reform law. Among the most widely recognized benefits are the subsidies (72 percent recognize these are included in the law), the provisions requiring guaranteed issue (70 percent), and the ability to keep adult children on their parents’ insurance policy until their midtwenties (69 percent). Also widely acknowledged are the major new mandates and penalties for individuals (67 percent) and employers (70 percent). The only listed item that fewer than half the public recognizes as being in the law is the gender parity provision, which prohibits insurance companies from charging women higher premiums than men (48 percent)."

Support for Health Care Reforms continues to creep up, and the implementation of popular measures will only aid and abet that process.

But Hey, how's that whole repeal thingie going, Republicans? Hopefully you'll continue to go all in on that.... along with the pathetically small 27% of the public (the low IQ Republican base nuts) that actually agree with you.

I love the photo--all he needs is a pair of glasses to look like Erkel.
.
They'll need a lot more than a homemade video to "prop up" this legislation. Hell, with its 3000 pages of obtuse legalese they couldn't prop it up with railroad ties.
.
Their supposed crowning achievement, this bill, this legislation, and few people understand it, and fewer still are happy with it.

To my Republican friends, Rob for once is actually right on something. The ObamaCare Law will not be repealed even if the Republicans gain control of congress. Once a huge Government Program is in effect it is very hard to repeal it. It will grow like a monster. Plus for the GOP to repeal the new law they would have to be able to override a Presidential Veto ( 2/3 vote in each House) which is very difficult. The only thing the congress will be able to do is tweak the new law. And this Confusing Expensive New Law does need a lot of tweaking. The big question is whether the Quality of Health Care in this country will deteriorate and will the American Public be hit with huge tax increases to pay for this huge new government program? I am afraid that ObamaCare is set up to fail and the American Public will be forced into a Public Option. And once that occurs there will be Major Tax Increases to pay for it.

Mr. President, what part of "NO" don't you understand? The people
don't want your stinking "Healthcare Program". Only the freeloaders want it. Do something to put them to work, like JOBS!

Just sayin,
Oh my gosh, your right. I knew it was a dorky look. You made my day thanks. Now if I could quit laughing, he has a new name ERKEL. And if you think about the character it fits...

Actually, Jim, Rob is not correct.
.
Nobody in their right mind expects that Obamacare will (or could) be repealed while Obama is still in office. The political mechanics you describe make that next to impossible. If you can see it, so can those in Congress. They know they would have to override an Obama veto, and that it would takes more votes in both the House and Senate than anyone could reasonably expect to gain during a mid-term election.
.
However, the same scenario does not obtain if Obama is defeated in the next election. A majority vote on a measure (or series of measures) to disable or repeal Obamacare would suffice if Obama’s replacement were willing to sign it. In short, the process of seeking Obamacare’s repeal is, and always has been, a much more long term goal than either Rob or (apparently) you have envisioned.
.
This is, parenthetically, not a Republican versus Democrat issue. It is a cause of personal freedom against large, enveloping government that should concern everyone, including independents like you. I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican. Yet I find Obamacare more obnoxious and intrusive, and the need for its repeal more urgent, than any Democrats or Republicans I know. People like Rob are perfectly happy to bargain away their freedom for a guaranteed a place in the sun by the government. I can’t brook that kind of slave mentality. I’m sorry.

In our little corner of the world things are looking up. After being cut to 30-32 hours last summer until December so they didn't have to lay anyone off, a friend's company, tool & die stmping/laminations, is so busy this year they can hardly keep up.

I do understand that there are those who are only happy when they are unhappy. The only pleasure they have in life is complaining, and they do nothing to make the situation better. I guess it's if you see the glass half full or half empty. United we stand, divided WE fail.

Yeah, he's good for a laugh, isn't he?

There's a really helpful video featuring Fran Drescher (actress from "The Nanny") and Health and Human Services Sec. Kathleen Sebelius, along with a MomsRising.org mom. They talk about health reform and prevention services in particular. Very eye-opening: http://bit.ly/SebeliusMR

Doogie,

For future reference "Democratic Crybaby" is redundant. - See PFUTZ as an example.

Trickled On Rob,

The one thing the American public cannot explain is how much it will add ot the deficit. Also, will be the indirect costs of the healthcare bill that the American public will support. These costs will be borne by corporations and then passed on to the American consumer.

Depot Jim,

The best way, at least until 2013, to derail Obamacare will be thru the courts.

Lochness,

Great news for your friend, but 9.5% unempplyment is still way too high. I agree also that United We Stand, Divided We Fail. The question is which side of the issue should we be united on - More or Less gov't intrusion into our lives? Higher or Lower Deficits? Higher or Lower Taxes?

We have major issues in this country and one why we can start fixing them is to put terms on senate. We need new and much younger people running this country and people who understand someone who 30 to 40 years old today. I personally don't want someone in office and making choices for me who is so out of touch with my generation they still think Vietnam just ended.

What a lying POS!!! Worst President Ever!!!!

What the Hell? You bet we have major issues in this nation. The big problem is that wall street, the pharmaceuticals, health insurance industry, and big oil are running this nation. When you have a weak government then the greedy take over. Why do you think Reagan wanted a small and weak government. So these people or industries could do what the hell ever they wanted. The only problem with the health care bill is that there is no public option. When I hear or read where someone refers to national health care as Obama care they either have a dog in the fight or they have no clue what the hell and who the hell is running this country. And it sure as hell is not the government. whiteagle38

I wish we could take all of the billions of dollars that will be mishandles on health care reform and use it to revive the economy.

We need reform but not a takeover of the system. There has to be middle ground.

Your nonsense about a " take over of the system ", is more Republican-Libertarian-T.Bagger lies. The Healthcare reform enacted is based in Health Insurance coverage, not in a government takeover. Lying didn't get you the White House in the last election, thanks to President Obama's determination and performance and it will not get you Congress in the upcoming elections, thanks to America's awareness of the obstructionist Republican-Libertarian-T.Baggers compulsion for lying!!
