The Swamp

by Mike Memoli

In his first public comments on the matter, President Obama said that Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack "jumped the gun" in seeking the resignation of Shirley Sherrod.

Speaking with ABC News in an interview to be aired Friday, Obama blamed Vilsack's hasty decision on the current media environment.

"He jumped the gun, partly because we now live in this media culture where something goes up on YouTube or a blog and everybody scrambles," he said. "I've told my team and I told my agencies that we have to make sure that we're focusing on doing the right thing instead of what looks to be politically necessary at that very moment. We have to take our time and think these issues through."

Press secretary Robert Gibbs has rejected suggestions that Vilsack resign over the matter.

Obama also talked of lessons to be learned from the incident, saying that "rather than us jumping to conclusions and pointing fingers at each other, we should all look inward and try to examine what's in our own hearts and, as a consequence, I think we will continue to make progress."

This blithering idiot loves to pass the buck! It's already been reported the White House had a hand in Sherrod's firing.
And then I love his comment about not "jumping to conclusions." Sort of like he did last summer about the Cambridge cop?
More and more, Obimbo continues to make the The Three Stooges look like rocket scientists.

It's real simple, if the charges come from Fox News assume that it's a lie and if Fox's source is Andrew Breitbart that's all the confirmation of it being a lie that you will need.

Obama never takes responsibility, he only lectures you about it.

Jump to conclusions? Really? What a surprise...wonder what would make the White House so jumpy? Too much caffeine? Phone calls at 4 AM from Hillary?

Nah, preconceived prejudices. That's what makes Barry Jump. Like Barry knows that all cops are stupid. What does this mean in this case? Barry, you got some splainin' to do. Is it something like your "typical white person" grandma, only this time is was a black woman? What goes on in a Black Liberal Theologist's mind?

Let's ask Reverend Wright...

"The winds of Katrina blew the cover off America. The hurricane exposed the hypocrisy," Rev. Wright said, "protecting white folks' property took priority over saving black folks' lives." He continued, "This storm called Katrina says far more about a racist government than it does about the wrath of God."

In April 2003, Rev. Wright told his congregation that "the United States government has failed the vast majority of our citizens of African descent."

"For every one Oprah, a billionaire, you've got five million blacks who are out of work," he said. "For every one Colin Powell, a millionaire, you've got 10 million blacks who cannot read. For every one Condoskeeza [sic] Rice, you've got one million in prison. For every one Tiger Woods, who needs to get beat, at the Masters, with his cap-blazing hips, playing on a course that discriminates against women. For every one Tiger Woods, we got 10,000 black kids who will never see a golf course."

Note the first paragraph. Obama's spiritual guru preaches about how the government takes care of White's property over Black's lives.
Sounds eerily familiar to the tape of Sherrod, that the White House believed was real, doesn't it?

I know also believe I'm oppressed. I have never been on a golf course. I'm pretty sure that everybody has seen one. He did get his wish about Tiger.

Really this social justice theology is total BS. The government has never done anything to insure my success, or should it, or could it. Hey, a government employee sits there with you for 12 years of your life trying to help. What else do you need?

ATTENTION CORPORATE MEDIA OUTLETS (The Swamp)

Now Is The Time To Reopen Breitbart's And Faux News' ACORN Smear Job -- And Get The Story Right This Time!

Shirley Sherrod's case parallels similar deceptions used by the right in that other big smear (ACORN) -- and offers a chance to restore your lost standards

"Recalling Breitbart from his days as eager lackey to Matt Drudge, I warned from the beginning that nothing he produced would resemble journalism. More than once since then, I’ve mentioned the accumulating evidence of deception by O’Keefe and Breitbart in creating and then publicizing the ACORN tale. It was a "scandal" that became a national story only after wildly biased coverage on Fox News Channel, followed by sloppy, scared reporting in mainstream outlets, notably the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, and the national TV networks (some of whom flagellated themselves for failing to publicize this canard sooner!)."

"Investigations by former Massachusetts Attorney General Scott Harshbarger, Brooklyn District Attorney Charles J. Hynes, California Attorney General Jerry Brown, and the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service, among others, have served to exonerate ACORN of the most outrageous charges of criminality (while still criticizing ACORN employees and leadership). More important, from the perspective of journalistic ethics, those investigations revealed that the videotapes released and promoted by Breitbart’s website were selectively and deceptively edited to serve as propaganda, not news."

This raised a question that still hasn't been answered: Beyond blaming Breitbart, Faux News, will the corporate media ever take a good hard look at themselves? Breitbart and Faux would not get away with their lies if the rest of the media weren't using their own bullhorns to blindly promote those lies, repeating without reporting, as has become their habit. Sources either prove credible or they do not, and Breitbart and Faux are not credible. Conason has a suggestion for those corporate media sources that promoted the ACORN smear:

"So here at last is an opportunity for all of the corporate media outlets that aided and abetted the ACORN fraud to restore a minimum level of standards and honor. Investigate Breitbart, O’Keefe, Giles and the making and editing of the ACORN tapes without fear or favor -- then report the findings on page one."

Well the SMOKING GUN has been found, and it lies right at the feet of liberal "journalists." Emails from leftist journalists show that they conspired to attack and assassinate the character of Obama's opponents.

Just as the recent headlines prove, accusing opponents of being racist was and is the way of the left. These pukes are disgusting. I wouldn't be surprised if "Rob" was one of them. I know that Mark Silva employed these tactics.

http://bigjournalism.com/jjmnolte/2010/07/20/journolist-call-them-racists-is-the-least-shocking-revelation/

What surprises me the least*, however, is the Washington Independent’s Spencer Ackerman urging hundreds of his fellow JournoListers to pick an Obama critic and…

take one of them — Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares — and call them racists. Ask: why do they have such a deep-seated problem with a black politician who unites the country? What lurks behind those problems? This makes *them* sputter with rage, which in turn leads to overreaction and self-destruction.

Yeah, who cares who we destroy?

And you can bet that whatever replaced Ezra Klein’s JournoList is now brimming with the same sinister plotting against the Tea Party. You can bet that when J. Christian Adams blew the whistle about ongoing and systemic discrimination at the Department of Justice, whatever the new JournoList is sent out the marching orders to Politico and the like to spike the story and throw off some chaff with yet another meme about how the Tea Party is racist.

Enter the NAACP.

What is surprising about today’s revelations is that these JournoListers have somehow deluded themselves into thinking they’re doing good. I was always under the impression that the wicked knew they were wicked, and yet we’ve caught them cold in their little online coven and they honestly seem to believe that group tackling the truth — a legitimate story — with bullying, peer pressure, outright lies and character assassination is some sort of righteous cause:

This isn’t about defending Obama. This is about how the [mainstream media] kills any chance of discourse that actually serves the people.”

Otherwise the questions in October will be exactly like this. This is just a disease.

…a revolting descent into tabloid journalism and a gross disservice to Americans concerned about the great issues facing the nation and the world.

It has everything to do with the attempts of the right to maintain control of the country.

I guess a dog doesn’t know when it’s rabid.

As this story continues to unroll (The Daily Caller has promised much, much more) it should be interesting to see who’s allowed to keep their job. “Conservative” Dave Weigel was forced to resign from the Washington Post for being immature and jerky on JournoList. This pales in comparison to Ackerman’s push to have Obama’s critics labeled as racists and the others conspiring to kill a legitimate story.

But here’s the part of the Daily Caller story that most intrigues me: [emphasis mine]

According to records obtained by The Daily Caller, at several points during the 2008 presidential campaign a group of liberal journalists took radical steps to protect their favored candidate. Employees of news organizations including Time, Politico, the Huffington Post, the Baltimore Sun, the Guardian, Salon and the New Republic participated in outpourings of anger over how Obama had been treated in the media, and in some cases plotted to fix the damage.

If Secretary Vilsak " jump the gun " , then we can thank those, less than honorable, media outlets for loading the gun, with poison, half truths and more lies. As for the " not too " Swift Boater, " not so " Breitbart, typical Republican-Libertarian-T.Bagger smear-job, with doctored, manipulated video, that, given Corporate Media's thirst for anything negative Obama, fed this to the national pool of Republican-Libertarian-T.Bagger sharklettes. Oh, did they have a feast, though short-lived and eventually, offered them some well-deserved acid reflux. President Obama handled this as best he could. Ms Sherrod has been respectfully treated, with a personal apology from our President and her great American story has been told to the nation. Doofus Breitbart turned out to be all too " Dullbart " !! Desperation, thy name is Republican-Libertarian-T.Baggers.
By the way, you all did see the signing of the Wall Street Financial Reform Act. I hope you didn't miss it, but if you did, too bad. It's now the law of the land!! Bandito Bankers hang on to your 401Ks, you saw the last of those suitcase- stuffing bonus days. I guarantee you that !!

Couldn't Obama just say that Vilsack "acted stupidly"? This time, he'd be right!

Never been in the military, have you, Don Fitz? The first thing you do when you pick up a gun is clear it, make sure it's not loaded, and never, NEVER, point it at anything or anyone you don't want to shoot. Vilsack showed how tough he was by picking up the gun and using it to shoot one of his own people.

Who is Nobama trying to snow?
That decision only comes from the top. Be a man and own up to
it, show a little dignity for a change.

Hey Swamp, where's the Charlie Rangel story today? If Sarah Palin would have farted the story would have been up in a New York Chuck Rangel minute.

President Obama needs to throw Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsak under the bus. It is the "Chicago Way."

Everything is always someone elses fault even tards like Rob and Don have to be getting tired of this old tune.

The Prime Players in the Shirley Sherrod Affair

Okay, I thought USDA official Shirley Sherrod proved herself a typical racist, black bigot based on that 20 second snippet of video tape that originally went viral. After all, she did say, “I was struggling with the fact that so many black people have lost their farmland and here I was faced with having to help a white person save their land–so I didn’t give him the full force of what I could do. I did enough.”

A lot of other people thought the same including conservative publisher-commentator Andrew Breitbart, Tom Vilsack, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Benjamin Todd Jealous, CEO of the NAACP, and, most disturbingly, Barack Obama, president of the United States.

Since the truth came out on Tuesday, almost everyone has been falling all over themselves in a rush to issue apologies after their rush to judgment.

The principal actors in the Shirley Sherrod affair, none of whom is squeaky clean in this mess: . . .

" Lipturd ", the only thing I am getting tired of is your idiocy. I think time and again, President Obama has accepted responsibilities for mistakes made by himself and his administration, and then some. Of course, you and your ilk, can't, or won't see that. Only that moron, " not so " Breitbart, the producer of the Acorn episode, as well as the producer and editor of this video, whose name, for some curious reason, was not prominently mentioned, until days later. Had his name been immediately associated with the doctored video, spread across the media spectrum, it would immediately have been suspect and incredible. All of this, of course, is to be expected with Corporate Media targeting President Obama and his successful Presidency, given his legislative successes for all of the people of America, not Corporate America!! Welcome back, you, " not too " Swift Boaters! Getting that " fear and smear machine " ready for the upcoming elections, again? Didn't you learn your lesson, last time out, with the election of President Obama? Bring it on !! The one constant in you imbecilic approach to political discourse is your stupidity and, of course, your silly lies and deceits!!

Looks like this Breitfart is going to be sued big time for libel.

"False light" is something he created apparently by editing a 42 minute speech down to 2 minutes. Or less than 2 minutes.

That wasn't "acting stupidly"; that was acting intentionally with malice.

Yes, a lot of people acted stupidly this week.

I guess they feel the most important thing of all is to "get out ahead of the 24 hour news cycle" or something like that...

O, and about that cop in Cambridge last summer:

President has access to a LOT of information other folk don't.

Including, if necessary, the electronic traffic before Prof. Gates was arrested on his own front porch.

I don't think that traffic has been released to the public. It would have been by now, had Prof. Gates decided to sue the Cambridge police for false arrest. I assume the President talked him out of that.

But it would undoubtedly show that the police knew who Prof. Gates was and that he was in his own house WELL BEFORE they arrested him.

Which is why Obama correctly said:

the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting a man in his own house.

If anything, the President was too kind.

It wasn't just a "stupid mistake"; it was an intentional, gratuitous race-motivated attack on an elderly professor on a cane, who "mouthed off".

Oh, please. Obama jumped the gun, just like he jumped the gun firing Sherrod. Here is his statement:

"Now, I don't know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, what role race played in that," the nation's first African American president said. "But I think it's fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry; number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home."

Yeah the cop said that he knew the guy was in his own house. The guy was also screaming at the officer, and making references to his momma, and wouldn't calm down. When a cop tells you to calm down or he is going to have to arrest you, and you keep it up, guess what happens? Go to jail, don't pass go, loose a turn. Happens no matter what color you are. I'm not stupid enough to try it on a black, brown, or white cop.

Not surprised by any of the actions by Obama or the NAACP, The exact same thing was done with the Black Panthers.

All you right wing hacks are unbelievable. A right wing hack poster gives Fox News a total lie of a video and Obama is to blame for the reaction. You disgust me. I am so fed up with the right wing BS and those paid posters and lemmings on the right who perpetuate all the lies. Your irrational hate of President Obama and hope that he fails makes you the most UN American people I can think of. You don’t give a damn about this country and don’t pretend that you do. I have no use for any of you. There, I feel better now.

Hey Timmy calm down. American wins when this incompetent fails. Firing someone without the facts is just the way the man-child operates. Was there more to the context of the tape? Apparently.

What is troubling is the idiot in chief jumping to conclusions and making racist assumptions. If this was somehow so important he had to get involved then he should have taken the time to understand the situation.

There will always be people looking to show Obama in the worst possible light, just as others did with Bush but thin skinned Barry has no clue about how to respond. The road is littered with people run over by Barry's bus.

Free, thanks for that quote from the President's remarks.

His reference to "proof" was what clued me at the time that the intelligence folk had already briefed him on the electonic traffic before that arrest was made, and knew Prof. Gates was in his own house.

You don't seem to understand that there is something called the Constitution in America and a Bill of Rights, and a 4th Amendment in said Bill of Rights and that these documents prohibit the cops from arresting someone in his own house when they have proof of that, without a warrant.

Which they didn't have.

And even if he's thought to have uttered "yo' mamma" (or maybe "Obama")

Which is something the police made up after the fact as a cover.

New Black Icon Bites the Dust: The Sherrods, Slavemasters

All social movements require a hero or a heroine, someone who exemplifies the goals and aspirations of the movement, someone to admire as an icon, someone to point to as a model for their younger members to emulate.

Communist Cubans had their Che’, liberal Americans have their Obama, farmworkers had their Chavez, and African-Americans recently crowned a new heroine, Shirley Sherrod. Her status was upgraded to icon after her dust up with the NAACP, the USDA, the president, and Andrew Breitbart over a video excerpt.

Now it turns out that even if the video was misleading and Sherrod wasn’t preaching race hatred, she, and her husband Charles, are hardly pure as the driven snow. Both have a seamy history of virtual enslavement, discrimination, and gross mistreatment of their farm workers in the 1970’s.

No doubt that record will be dismissed as ancient history by some of Sherrod’s champions but it’s difficult to dismiss out of hand unless we also discount and dismiss all instances of discrimination if they took place thirty or so years ago.

I say “some champions” will defend her since it’s far from all.

Among those who have exposed Sherrod’s past is none other than Joe R. Hicks, former director of a Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) chapter and Ron Wilkins, former organizer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), two black activist organizations. . .
