BOSTON -- The National Governors Association styles itself as a non-partisan organization. But beyond the consensus-oriented sessions on the official schedule, governors and gubernatorial hopefuls are using the weekend gathering for political gain as well.
Just a few examples:
The Republican Governors Association a tough salvo launched on the local airwaves against host Gov. Deval Patrick, a Democrat seeking re-election in a competitive three-way contest this fall. The TV ad accuses the governor of "wasteful spending, higher taxes, fewer jobs."
Tim Pawlenty (R), the retiring governor of Minnesota, is breaking away from the conference in Boston for some waters-testing events in neighboring New Hampshire, home of the first-in-the-nation presidential primary. It's his third visit to the state in seven months, AP notes.
Another presidential hopeful and the former governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney, is hosting a fundraiser in Boston for Nikki Haley, the Republican nominee for governor in another important early nominating state -- South Carolina.
Both the Democratic and Republican Governors Associations also held meetings this morning to strategize about the November elections.

Comments
Not surprising that the Republican Governors Association would use a non partisan forum to spew their crazy fringe right wing ideology.
The Repugs have more in common with a Mafia Crime Family than they do a legitimate political party.

Non-Original,
Funny you mention Mafia Crime family. Which Illinois Senate canidate ran his family's bank into bankruptcy by making loans to the organized crime?

Terri,
Are you talking about the guy running for IL Senate who bragged about the naval intelligence officer of the year award that he didn't receive, the Pentagon war room that he didn't command, the fire he didn't come under while in Iraq, Kosovo or Kandahar, Desert Storm that he didn't serve in, Operation Iraqi Freedom that he didn't serve in, the nursery school where he didn't teach and where he didn't have students bringing guns to class ...?

Watched some of this on C-Span this a.m. As bad as things are around the country most States had something to brag about whether it be job creation, education or balancing their budgets. The Govenator from CA was not there and not surprisingly our Govenor Quinn didn't have much to contribute because it's hard to crow when the only thing a State can count on is getting more federal money to just get by.

Not surprising the Democrats who write The Swamp highlight only partisan doings by Republicans, but ignore similar doings by Democrats.
That's the kind of "journalism" you get when journalists recycle DNC press releases.

Planet Winnuttia-Tia Rachel:
We people with IQs higher than our shoe size are more forgiving of somebody who has padded his resume (and who hasn't done that?) than somebody who has bankrolled organized crime.
.
And speaking of bragging about fake military service, I don't think YOU, of all people really want to go there, Obama Girl.

Non-Original,

Either one is just another word for "lie." I don't see any "better" in that.

Opie,
Just so I have this straight.
Politician A brags about his past life saying he was an All-Conference basketball player when it fact he was a bench warmer.
Politician B has a past that includes fraud.
To you, these are equivalents?
Alexi's wasn't a lie - it was theft that we the taxpayers got the tab for.
