Health care vote, Kilpatrick loss among primary headlines

Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (D-MI) is the fourth member of Congress to lose in a primary this year.

The Swamp

* Missourians overwhelmingly voted Tuesday in support of an initiative challenging to the mandate provision of the federal health care law. Noam Levey reports on the vote and its potential impact.

* In the Michigan gubernatorial primary, former Gateway CEO Rick Snyder won a closely-watched Republican race, beating the state attorney general and U.S. Rep. Peter Hoekstra. Hoekstra is the latest sitting member of Congress to lose a gubernatorial bid; only Oklahoma's Mary Fallin has been successful this year.

Snyder, who ran as "one tough nerd," will face Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero (D) in November.

* Also in Michigan, Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (D) became the fourth sitting member of Congress to lose a primary for re-election. Kilpatrick is former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, so her loss is the latest blow to the House group. Of the four incumbents to lose renomination, two have been Democrats and two were Republicans.

* Despite Sarah Palin's endorsement, Rep. Todd Tiahrt came up just short in the Kansas Senate Republican primary against fellow Rep. Jerry Moran. The winner will almost certainly be elected to the seat being vacated by Sam Brownback (R); a Democrat hasn't represented Kansas in the U.S. Senate since 1939.

* And speaking of Palin endorsements, our colleagues at the Baltimore Sun report that the former Alaska governor is backing little-known GOP hopeful Brian Murphy in the Maryland gubernatorial race. This instead of the frontrunner, former Gov. Bob Ehrlich (R), who is seeking a rematch against Martin O'Malley (D) in November.

Eh Eh Eh

...and the message is "business as usual is getting really old."
.
Glad to hear it.

Oh look! A whole line in the Sentinel about the Missouri vote on Obamacare! The MSM is whistling past the graveyard about Missouri's vote on prop C. They still think if they don't talk about something, no one will know. That's why they're all going out of business. As they watch liberal/progressivism go down in flames thanks to the American people, they are drawn like moths to their heros. Good riddance.

Nothing could make me happier as a Dem than to have the Repugs continue to waste tax payer time and money on their "repeal healthcare reform" meme this fall.

HEALTH CARE REFORM CONTINUES TO GAIN POPULARITY.

While the majority of voters in Michigan do not like the health care plan, most think that it is a day late and a dollar short. I know far too many White collar & White collar workers who have lost their health care. What they want is more, not less Health care. At the rate we are going we will all lose our health care in 20 years. What we most have is universal health care. Mike Cox ran against health care and received only 23% of the GOP vote. I have been a independent for 35 years. We can pay for health care by taxing imports, which help save American Jobs.

Gee Rob, Rasmussen has that number growing to 59%
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/current_events/healthcare/health_care_law

But of course, the most important poll, the actual votes of the people - over 70% in this first test say NO to Obamacare.

Glad you're happy, though. Keep smiling.

As usual The Chicago Tribune did not tell the whole story on yesterdays elections.

Rep Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (D-MI) 8 term Michigan Congresswoman, lost her bid for another term in the Democratic Primary. It is believe that her son, disgraced and convicted former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's legal problems dragged her down to defeat.

In Missouri the initiative challenging the ObamaCare mandate provision passed with over 70 per cent of the vote.

Swamp Troll,
If you really believed that a majority of Americans agree with the fringe right wings (you) crusade to repeal health care reform, you wouldn't be using multiple post names on here and you certainly wouldn't be quoting a poll from that right wing hack, (R) Rasmussen.

jimmy,
Missouri is a hardly a state that you wingnutters should be judging your clownish "repeal health care reform" meme on this fall. In fact Missouri as a whole was one of the few states that was actually stupid enough to vote for Grampy McCain and Sarah the Quitter Queen in the last presidential election.

My hope is that you Repugs are deluded enough to take your tax payer time money wasting "repeal health care reform" meme nationally this fall. Polls don't lie jimmy, and the polls show that you Repugs are on the wrong end of the health care refrom debate....again.

71% - That's just a good ol' fashion butt kickin'. Like what the conservatives in the Swamp do to Trickled On Rob, PFUTZ, Doogie, and Before CommonSense on a daily basis.

Poser Terri, the only butt you've ever kicked belongs to that Candy Crowley blow up doll that you sleep with every night.

Rob, if you knew anything about politics you would know that Missouri is a very important State in Presidential Elections. Missouri is what Political Scientists, Politicians, and Political Strategists call a "Bellwether" State. Between 1904 and 2008, Missouri's electoral votes went to the winner of the Presidential Election in all but two elections. The first was in 1956 during the Eisenhower landslide, when Missouri went to neighboring Illinois Democrat Adlai Stevenson. The second was the 2008 Obama victory when Missouri voted for Republican John McCain. Missouri's accuracy in voting with the national consensus also includes some so called "too close to call" elections in 1948, 1960, 1976, and 2000 when Missouri voted for Truman, Kennedy, Carter and Bush. Both the Democratic and Republican Parties and their Political Strategists pay VERY close attention to Missouri. It is what most in politics call a swing state.

I suggest before you shoot your mouth off again and start the name calling that you know what you are talking about. On Missouri being a "Bellwether" State in Presidential Elections you seem to not have a clue.

Trickled On Rob,

Kicking blow-up Candy's butt is a lot better than what you do with it.
