President Obama is not second guessing his decision to weigh on on the proposed community center and mosque near Ground Zero, he said in Ohio today.
"The answer is no regrets," Obama told an ABC News reporter when asked about weighing in on the topic last Friday.
Obama was greeting participants and guests at a discussion of the economy in Columbus, and did not elaborate further.
The discussion of the Park 51 facility in lower Manhattan, which was given new prominence after Obama's comments, has largely overshadowed his message this week on the economy and put some Democrats -- and Republicans -- in tough political spots.
Earlier Obama had compared the stalled economic recovery to an illness as he maintained things were getting better.
(Photo Credit: AP / Carolyn Kaster)
"The economy is getting stronger, but it really suffered a big trauma. And we're not going to get all 8 million jobs that were lost back overnight," he said. "What we're trying to do is create sort of a virtuous cycle where people start feeling better and better about the economy. And a lot of it's sort of like recovering from an illness. You get a little bit stronger each day and you take a few more steps each day. And that's where our economy's at right now."
Obama is now set to begin speaking at a fundraiser for Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland (D), who is involved in a tough re-election battle against former Rep. John Kasich (R). A new Rasmussen poll released today showed the Democratic incumbent trailing 48-40.

The NYC mosque (community center) is nothing more than a muslim version of the YMCA.

I wonder if Obama doodled a little figure of Mohammad, do you think he might come to regret it?

Obama claimed he has "no regrets."
Obama also has been claiming for the last year that the economy is booming.
Remember "recovery summer"?
These absurd claims shouldn't be criticized. They should be laughed at.

Most of the fear-mongering over the NYC "mosque" non issue is being generated by the Right Wing Noise Machine and paid Republican agitators (Pamela Geller) who think this will pay off politically for them. There is no depths to which the angry old rich white guy party (Republican) will not sink, including trashing the Constitution in order to bring President Obama down. Political power is all that matters to these right wing scabs of society. When they get it they abuse it and when they lose it they burn the place down to get it back again.

Swamp Troll,
Why should Pres Obama have any regrets? He saved the country from going into a full blown Bush Depression and he stood up to Republican bigotry and fear-mongering (muslim community center). The only ones who should be having regrets right now are right wing useful idiots like yourself (Teabagger Republican base nuts) who continue to vote against your own self-interests and for the Wall Street Greedheads, Tax Cuts for Billionaires, Mega Corporations, Big Oil, Deregulation and the Military Industrial Complex, because you're to stupid to know any better.

What's the matter Robbie, you don't like cartoons of Mohammad? Why not? We have freedom of speech here, protected by the Constitution. Artists have the same right to speech as the Radical Islamic cleric has the right to build a victory style Mosque at the site of a Radical Islam terrorist attack. Tell you what. I'll change my mind and support the Mosque, when Islamic clerics come out in support of cartoons of Mohammed and those artists that dare depict him are no longer attacked and threatened with death.
Seems that Islam is NOT tolerant.

This demagoging of the issue by Fox, Newt, Sarah, Republicans and the right wing Xtian movement could easily blow up in their faces if they succeed in stopping the center.
It will open the way through precedence for other groups to stop the construction or placement of churches and synagogues by other groups due to intense dislike of those religions or simply for payback.

Really? How about the ability to criticize Muslims for their treatment of women? The way that the Muslims don't allow other religions freedoms in their countries; the treatment of Coptic Christians in Egypt; the stoning of people for having an affair; genital mutilation, honor killings here in the US and around the world; attacking artists for depicting Mohammad as a cartoon; respect for non believers of Islam (there is none, you ever hear any Muslims say that they accept Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, atheists???HMMMMM????)
That is the issue. Where is all the LOVE from Muslims toward non Muslims???? Where is this Religion of Peace? Why is it not clear where this Imam stands? Why can't he condemn a terrorist organization like Hamas? Why are Americans afraid to draw a cartoon? Ever hear of that before? You can draw Jesus, George Washington, George Bush, Barrack Obama, your mama, Hitler, Gandhi, any darn thing you want, except Mohammad. What's wrong? The answer is: Islamic extremists will kill you. Hmmm, Why are extremists tolerated? Because they (Islam) really don't mind that they kill you. I have never heard any Muslim say: NO, don't kill him for drawing Mohammad, have you?
These are the more important issues that we need answers to; and those are the real issues. The Mosque is a vehicle to FORCE the media to discuss the intolerance of Islam. YOU want to make it about tolerating hate; YOU want to make it a political game. It's time to force the issue. I won't tolerate intolerance. Islam is the most intolerant and hateful religion in many parts of the world. Truly, they imprison people for religious beliefs. Islam needs to step into the 21st Century, otherwise it will take the world back to the Middle Ages.

The political fallout from the New York Mosque controversy will be the least of Obama's headaches. This morning (Aug 19th) the Labor Department announced that First Time Claims for Unemployment Benefits unexpectedly rose to 500,000. That is a nine month high.

Regarding the Mosque at Ground Zero controversy there have been all sorts of dumb remarks from our political leaders from Newt Gingrich to President Obama who has been all over the map with his remarks. But First Prize for the Dumbest Remark has to go to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi who has called for a congressional investigation for those people and groups that oppose the Mosque being built near Ground Zero. Does that mean that Pelosi wants to investigate the families of the 9/11 victims who are upset and oppose the Mosque being built near Ground Zero in New York? Pelosi definitely wins "Dumbest Remark on Mosque Controversy" by a Landslide.

The President Of The United States of America, President Obama, got it right. Period! He addressed that Iftar dinner at the White House and reminded all of us, Americans, including Arab-Americans, what our Constitution declares. I was somewhat surprised that he felt the needed to remind all of those constitutional experts, across our land, who oppose him!! His address covered private property, citizenship and freedom of religion and free speech. Civics, Basic 100, is what he covered and the opposition screamed bloody murder. Tell the Catholic Church, where it can and can't build its House of Worship, or their schools or student center. Tell a Southern Baptist Church where to build its House of Worship, or the Buddists, the Lutherans, the Jewish Religion. Where are their, these established religions, cries of outrage, in this attempt to deny the rights of the Arab-Americans. Don't be fooled, it is a denial. Call it whatever else you want to call it, to cover-up the bullying, it is still a denial. Yet, the most reprehensible element in this manipulated, exploited story, is the opponents of President Obama, in their attempt to use his words against him, have, in fact, repudiated our own Constitution. They, who scream to the heavens, about their constitutional rights, covering arms, freedom from government, freedom of hate-speech, religious freedom, to force 'The Ten Commandments " to be posted in a civic building!! Even though, when the Arab-Americans community in New York City wants to exercise their constitutional rights, concerning its private property, all of a sudden, the screamers insist, decorum over rights, if you don't agree, " you nazis "!!! Where are the other leading religions' outrage at the treatment Islamic Americans are being subjected to, for purely political purposes. As all reasonable Americans already know, these Arab-Americans had nothing to do with 9/11, as the vast majority of Arab-Americans did not, and yet other Americans will subvert our Constitution, for sure, not a verifiable first, for the despicable justification for political gains, political advantage. This election cycle has already hit new lows, in terms of comportment, and it isn't doing our country any good. President Obama will continue to do what he thinks is right, in spite of what his opponents fabricate, distort or lie about. Hasn't his opposition realized that, yet. He isn't swayed by a frenzied mob, whipped up, by agents and provocateurs, who are agitating in hopes of political and personal gains. Don't these opponents of President Obama get it, at all !!? Apparently, not!!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Lessons from The Founding Fathers . . .
Most of The Founding Fathers were Christian. However they freed this nation, the United States of America from the dictates of England. One of those dictates we were freed from, a favored religion by government. The Founding Fathers knew that the government could and did influence people in an adverse way when the government proposed one Christian or Jewish sect or religion over another
Christian or Jewish sect.
The Founding Fathers stated Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. Meaning that the United states shall not have a national religion; see, The Bill of Rights.
Today President Obama states that a main goal of the government agency NASA is to reach out to Islam. . .
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/obamas-new-mission-for-nasa-reach-out-to-muslim-world-97785979.html
What about reaching out to Christians on an equal basis, The Bill of Rights?
President Obama states that a Christian can't speak at the Pentagon during the National Day of Prayer as his words might be offensive to Muslims. With no regrets the President thinks nothing of the offensiveness to 9/11 victims as he shows his bias respect toward the Muslim religion basically stating Muslims should be able to build their mosque in the Ground Zero area. An are that was destroyed by, what happened to sensitivity?
President Obama use the sensitivity that you reserve for the Muslim faith and apply it to the 9/11 victims; Mr. President no mosque in the Ground Zero area.
Notice the sensitivity of the Imam that proposes building a mosque at the Ground Zero area; do you see his views on Muslim governance. . . .

Daley made an interesting observation about "Ground 0" yesterday:
There's no memorial, even after 9 years....
So much for it being "hallowed ground". If that were the case, there would be a memorial there by now, 9 years later....
There's some back story about real estate in that area only "sophisticated NYers" are privy to, I suppose.....
Actually, some of the 911 families think the underground "museum" about to be developed there is "macabre" and likely to ATTRACT attacks.
Perhaps a community center would help WARD OFF attacks....
From the looks of the site, not even McDonalds would want to develop a hamburger stand there.
A community center would be a big improvement.

C. Morris, stop being so dramatic. No “crown jewels” of the Constitution are being destroyed. All relevant government entities have approved the mosque, so the Constitutional argument is a strawman.
*
The argument is not that the mosque is or should be illegal. The argument is that it is in terrible taste and is an unnecessary provocation. Nothing against modern Germans who had nothing to do with the Holocaust, but I wouldn’t build a German community center two blocks from Auschwitz. I wouldn’t do that today, and anyone who would have suggested that within ten years of the Holocaust should have had their head examined.
*
The area around ground zero should be a tribute to the victims of 9/11. Even though I agree that the building of the mosque at that location cannot and should not be blocked by any governmental entity, I think you have to be willfully obtuse and tone deaf to not recognize this as insensitive at best, and intentionally provocative at worst.

Words to Live and Die by
Consider the following video as preface to this article on the subject of why Democrats are so nitwitty that they can’t comprehend the difference between actual reality and their miasmic interpretation and misunderstanding of what is real.
The video features that peace-lovin’, diversity-endorsing, monster mosque-building, in-yer-face-America-we-won-you-lost Islamic terrorist-without-portfolio, Imam Feisel Abdul Rauf’s comments following September 11th, 2001: http://tiny.cc/92t8v.
Imaf Rauf is the same Muslim whose project to build that monster mosque/recreation center/restaurant/gymnasium/meeting place/ cultural-exchange locale and generally jolly old Islamic fun place to be place has been heartily endorsed by Democrat Governor David Patterson, Democrat Senator Chuckie Schumer, life-long Democrat Mayor Boomboom, Democrat gubernatorial aspirant Chris Cuomo, and virtually every other Democrat in the nation.
New York Governor-by-default Paterson last week tossed in a sweet freebie for Rauf and his monster mosque . . .

That's a great plan Ornery. Let's have a Moslem Community Center in every town. Then we can all convert, and there won't be any more attacks.
Better yet, just surrender now and you can stop fretting.
One problem with your theory: Terrorists attack in Muslim countries much more frequently than they do here in the US. So, it's back to the drawing board.
http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/index.html#Attacks
Notice that the majority of terrorist attacks are in Muslim countries.
Since 9/11 there have been over 15,000 terrorist attacks by Islamic extremists around the world.

Islamic Insights into Islam
Some people firmly believe that we are known by the company we keep. I’m not certain whether that qualifies as an established truism but we can certainly be known by the manner in which we treat our own.
Islam, Islamic nations, Muslims generally treat “their own” dismally at best and often inhumanely.
Take, for example, Islamic Pakistan which is currently being almost being flooded out of existence.
One would think that fellow Islamic nations, a number of which are wealthy beyond imagining, would be lined up to offer financial and humanitarian assistance to the millions of Pakistanis.
If one so thought, one would be miserably wrong. What aid is being sent is predominantly provided by private Muslim groups and charities not by Muslim countries which, for the most part, are practicing a policy of benign neglect toward fellow Islamic Pakistan.
That would be the same policy of neglect applied to Muslim Palestinians whose plight is bemoaned by the Islamic world at the same time it makes no effort to alleviate Palestinian suffering.
However, Islamists also demonstrate their inhumanity toward their own in a number of other ways. . .

F2W,
"Just surrender now"?
"Islam" means "surrender".
No, I'm not going to convert.
I'm going to stick with my Puritan and Quaker ancestors who came here in the 17th Century for RELIGIOUS FREEDOM.
Which includes the freedom of moslems to build a community center in lower Manhattan if they so choose and if they can afford the freight.
That's why those "founding fathers" thought to put freedom of religion and freedom from religion as the very first item in the Bill of Rights.
Have you ever read it?
Posted by: ornery | August 23, 2010 12:29 AM
You keep invoking freedom of religion. Who are you arguing with? The majority supports freedom of religion here in America. That's not the issue.
Now ask the radical Moslems if they support freedom of religion.
If, I respected your religion, your beliefs, I would not go out of my way to insult you by building a obnoxious testimony to my religion that spawned an attack that killed thousands of Americans virtually next door to the site of the attack.

Sharia, Part One: Muslim Women
Sharia law, or simply Sharia or, in Arabic, شريعة Šarīʿa, is a complex set of rules for Muslims transmitted by Allah. However, any comparisons to the Christian Bible would be tantamount to comparing our Bible to eternal truths within “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”
According to Wikipedia, “Muslims believe all Sharia is derived from two primary sources, the divine revelations set forth in the Qur’an, and the sayings and example set by the Islamic Prophet Muhammad. . . [and subject to] the consensus of the religious scholars” and Islamic jurists who interpret Sharia.
“The imam [the position held by the Ground Zero monster-mosque-builder Feisel Abdul Rauf] has varying responsibilities depending on the interpretation of Sharia . . . leader of communal prayers, . . . scholar, religious leader or political leader. Sharia deals with many topics addressed by secular law, including crime, politics and economics, as well as personal matters such as sexuality, hygiene, diet, prayer, and fasting.”
In a nutshell, Sharia represents the words Muslims live by, necessarily updated to reflect the passage of fourteen hundred years since the holy Prophet Muhammad passed to his reward no doubt stll in the loving arms of his child bride Aisha, whom he took to his holy marital bed when she was all of eight years old and who was just one of his 13 wives and concubines.
Despite all the updating and interpretation over fourteen centuries, things really haven’t changed an awful lot for Muslims, and even less so for Muslim women.
Nonie Darwash was one of those (Egyptian) Muslim women.
Now considered an Islamic apostate . . .
