The Swamp

Talk about a "Dream Team."

President Obama shot hoops Sunday with some NBA superstars, a combination late birthday present and a showcase for some wounded warriors and participants in the White House mentoring project.

The guest list included some of pro basketball's greatest players, both past and present: LeBron James, Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, Magic Johnson and Bill Russell, to name a few. One woman, Maya Moore of the UConn Huskies, was on the list released to the press today as well.

According to pool reporter, no press was allowed in to see the game, so we can't be sure whether the pros took it easy on their commander in chief. But a White House photographer was likely on hand for the game, which took place at Fort McNair.

Obama, who marked his 49th birthday in Chicago on Wednesday at a dinner that included Oprah Winfrey, was set for yet another celebration today at the White House -- a barbecue with family, friends and staff.

The full guest list is after the jump.

More of Obama's continued use of the Presidential office for his own self indulgent.
All these NBA guys are morons. While they are rubbing elbows with the "chosen one" he's reaching in their wallets and not for charitable reasons either. The Tax Man will be coming after them next year also. After those Bush tax cuts expire charities like this will be lucky if the so called rich have money to donate to their causes.

Good for him! Just because he magnanimously agreed to be our president, President Obama is not required to give up the part-time hours he pulled as a community organizer and part-time law lecturer

I've always thought it would really be neat if someone like Michael Jordan just pulled up at a playground where kids were shooting hoops and joined in and played with them for a while. Just think how thrilled the kids would be and the story they'd have to tell when they got home!

Thanks for nothing President useless.

Two wars and an economy in shambles and he has nothing but free time to kill.

I would rather he meet with the greatest economic minds - we need jobs out here.

I read that the troops was present to watch the game, if so , how nice of the President to do that for the troops.

This elitist sob makes me ill.

Is this cool or what? We've got an honest to gawd athlete for a president.

Basking the reflected glow of talent and ability.

Maybe he could sign them up as Secret Service, or something.

Isn't it disgusting. With all the problems that he faces, the only thing this president can do is goof off with a bunch of basketball junkies, while is wife is off going to bull fights and eating vegetarian tapas. This is proof we need Republicans back in the White House setting standards for the rest of us to live by. Like wearing a tie and suit coat around the house and nice dresses like Mrs. Cleaver and Harriet Nelson. Maybe this is setting the stage for 2012 when that wonderful bastion of morality and Republican decency, Sarah Jane Palin becomes president. When that happens we can all watch turkeys having their heads ground off in the back of the White House.

When George W. took a vacation the media jumped all over him for being "insensitive" to the soldiers dying in Iraq. Obama has taken 6 vacations this summer, has bithday parties, shoot hoops with celebs, but yet he found himself "too busy" to give a speech to 45,000 Boy Scouts 10 days ago.

Obama's approval rting is 45%. I guarantee you if the media bashed his time off and all the other blunders like the oil spill as much as they bashed George, his rating would be in the 20-some percent!

Coolest President since Kennedy (God rest his soul). He is an inspiration and is beloved. He is such a powerful combination of marvelous adjectives that I am in head shaking awe of him. Once in a lifetime.

Good. The more time Obama spends "shooting hoops",the less time he is spending destroying out country.

It is good to see President Obama enjoying himself, on his birthday!! Oh, don't worry, it is his birthday, just check his birth certificate. Oh, that's right, the birthers have been doing that for a couple of years now and like everything else, they still can't make up their collective mind, that's singular: mind, whether one exists or not!! What maroons!!?
At least, the opposing players on the court, playing against President Obama, weren't trying to obstruct the game, merely prevent President Obama and his team from scoring. Unlike those Republicans, who, taking up space in our Senate, sit on the sidelines and pout and call our President nasty names and smear him with nasty innuendoes!! I know it was a relief for President Obama to be competing against real professionals, instead of the mean-spirited amateurs, the obstructionist Republicans, that should have our country's best interests at heart, but don't!!

Obonehead is an f'ing idiot!!

YEAH!!! RIGHT ON!!! The nerve of that guy using his office to bring in sports stars to lift the spirits of wounded veterans. How selfish.

The end of the war in Iraq is on schedule. Quit your bellyaching, you big baby. The economy is not in shambles. It's holding steady in some sectors, strong in others and weak in the rest. Greece's economy is in shambles. Portugal. China, too, possibly.

Again, stop whining.

Wow, in-depth and classy. Good job.

How about doing some work prez!!! Can't wait for 2012!

One token whitey. Not even an american whitey, though.

Here is further proof of the double-standard applied to President Obama. If President Bush had taken infield practice with a major league baseball team, the media would either been ridiculing him or calling for him incompetent and uncaring for playing a sport while people somewhere were suffering. When President Obama picks up a basketball, though, the media runs it to show what a "normal guy" he is. Has the media stopped even pretending to be objective about this guy?

Splendid...that's exactly what we need..a president with a jump shot..Less than two years remain everybody...keep the faith.

Yawn...

Don,
Your the pot calling the kettle black with your comments about Repugs. as well as the other Dems. You and Rob are a joke that never ends. Blinded by a wanna be messiah and demigod. He is no Kennedy either, people take your blinders off. We need to get lawyers out of government, their destroying the country.

Its kind of reminds me of when Nero fiddled while Rome burned to the ground. This guy is a poor excuse for a President.
Get him out of office, while we still have a country and our sanity.

Conservatives are so closed minded it makes me chuckle at how out of touch they really are. Like the comment about having us involved in 2 endless wars and an economy in shambles. Umm, reflection. Those were wars that Obama inherited. And the economy. Also inherited. You honestly think someone could fix 10 years of republican f ups( I mean policy ) in 2 years??? If McCain were in office, we would be at war with North Korea because republican strategy to stimulate the economy is military spending and contracts with giant defense companies. Why you conservatives feel that this is the way this country needs to be is beyond me. Do me a favor. Instead of watching fox news all day long, why don't you do your homework and develop your own opinion.

Hey" Republican masquerading as a turncoat Democrat".
Next time you need a lawyer, call the men in the white jackets. You'll probably get the real help, you need!!
Go President Obama, jam the obstructionist Republicans!! In their faces!!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Hey, the idiot in chief didn't inherit anything. He ran for office with a plan to change the world for the better. In case you hadn't noticed, he has screwed up everything he has been involved in. It is possible to take a bad situation and make it worse, bozo is doing just that.

This lightweight affirmative action figure has surrounded himself with a bunch of like minded marxist leaning yes men/women. The result is a president too stupid to fix anything and advisors making recommendations for political purposes rather than for the good of this country.

Nice to see our pres interupt his busy fundraising schedule to vacation and hang with a bunch of thugs. How ghetto of him.

Betterthanyou, if you think Conservatives are "so closed minded" I suggest you read some of the posts on the Far Left of Don Fitzgerald and Rob to name a few. If you have an open mind you will be laughing even more at their silly statements.

It must be a real slow news day for all the attention from the Left and the Right the White House Basketball game is getting involving President Obama and some NBA Stars playing basketball honoring wounded VETS. It seems that anytime a President (it does not matter who it is) takes some time off their critics are all on their critical bandwagon. But that seems to come with the job. As Harry Truman use to say "if you cannot stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."

Look at the bright side, it was a couple of hours he wasn't screwing up our lives.

If G Dubya was bowling with a bunch of pros or cycling with Lance Armstrong, you wouldn't have any complaints. The President is not doing anything any other US President hasn't done.
Get over yourselves!

Noah and Rose look like they are having a great time.. meanwhile the conservatives haters are "turds in the punchbowl". Unfortunately all Americans are forced to clean up their mess as they destroy the positive spirit of this country.

Your absolutely right, " Ferry "!! You don't need President Obama to mess up your life. It seems to me, you've done a very good job, with your narrow-minded, mean-spirited, political persuasion, a water-boy for the obstructionist Republican--Libertarian-T.Baggers!! Go get 'em, pussy-cat!!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

PFUTZ,

If you want to call me a name, go ahead and be man enough to call me the name instead of a homonym.

I don't BO or the federal gov't to care for me - I'm pulling the ecobnomic wagin that your lazy butt is sitting on all day
