The Swamp

by Mike Memoli

The White House has announced that President Obama will hold a formal news conference on Friday, Sept. 10, his first in nearly four months.

According to CBS Radio's Mark Knoller, the in-house record keeper of the White House press corps, it will be the president's eighth solo Q-and-A session. His last was May 27, when he fielded questions about the BP oil spill.

Also next week, the president will mark Labor Day in Wisconsin, and speak on the economy in Ohio on Wednesday.

Great using Sept. 11th to finally hold a press conference so he can hopefully dodge questions about the economy as the focus will be on national security. Hope the press is ready to stop slobbering and ask where the jobs are after a Dr. Evil like ransom has been spent.

Can't wait to watch the Republican Taliban wrap themselves up in the American flag and claim ownership of all things 9/11 again this year.

conservativeclown,
You're right, Pres Obama should talk about the economy again. About how the extremist Republican party tanked the economy by giving tax cuts (twice) to Billionaires, Mega Corporations and Big Oil, and started a trillion dollar war in Iraq for no other reason than to enrichen their Military Industrial Complex pals (Halliburton, KBR, Blackwater etc). And how Republicans want to do it all over again.

And then he can explain how the stimiulus saved the country from going into a full blown Bush Depression.

.
You are not just ignorant, but invincibly ignorant (and arrogant too), if you think that the Pugs’ behavior you cite had anything to do with the economic collapse.
.
Everyone else (that is everyone other than you and few remnant, die-hard, lemming-like DailyKos types) knows the financial crisis started with the subprime meltdown. This occurred because greedy banks loaned too much money to greedy home buyers who couldn’t afford the loans. They did it because they believed the property values provided adequate security for the money. The predictable (but un-predicted) massive loan defaults drove down housing prices and left the banks in possession of worthless mortgages and massive numbers of real estate parcels with downward spiraling values. This bled into the securities and financial markets because those bad loans had been pooled and bundled into CDOs. This was exacerbated by the fact that credit rating agencies didn’t do a good job in rating these sub-prime backed securities (probably because they didn’t know how). The massive defaults made all that paper go toxic. Apparently, investment in this kind of paper was massive and widespread; and hence the financial wipeout worldwide.
.
What is significant is that the meltdown was caused, not by government activity, but by foolish and greedy behavior in the private sector. This was behavior the danger of which didn’t even register on the Federal Reserve Bank’s radar.
.
That’s how it happened, Dude. So now you have to explain: How did the tax cuts for the rich or the funding of foreign wars have any impact on why banks made all those bad loans to the non-creditworthy? (Hint: It’s a fair bet that this stuff had no impact on the activities of lending institutions because banks can’t lend government debt.) Until you can give an explanation of the cause-and-effect relationship between the stuff you are grousing about and the economic crisis, you are just blowing a lot of hot air.
.
But of course we already know you won’t answer this question. You’ve been asked a hundred different ways by now to explain your theory of Repug responsibility and you have failed and refused each request. I won’t hold my breath this time either.

Trickled On,

Unemployment benefits vs tax cuts for job creators - which do you think will get the economy moving again? IS your 99 months almost up? Mummy going to kick you out of the basement?

Once again, any money your parents spent on you education, have them seek a refund.

What the heck is so important about Wisconsin? This is his 4th trip in 2 months. The cheese can't be that good.

Senator Kohl, can you shed some light?

Can the taxpayers get a refund? Or at least cycle Rob back through, of course starting with the appropriate age group of kindergartners. Maybe they can teach him some social skills and pay some special attention to building self esteem and to not blame others (ie George Bush) for all the bad things that happen in the dark damp basement when mommy doesn't him bake cookies. Those walls and hard floor can leave nasty bruises on the noggin.

Given what President Obama inherited from the previous incompetent and malfeasant administrations, he must act bold. He must offer our nation a stimulus package that will rebuild our infrastructure. Our infrastructure has been willfully neglected and its decrepitude is now killing us, from the bridge that collapsed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with 13 dead and 145 injured, to the levees in New Orleans, and the untold dead and injured there. We must address these national needs, immediately. Since the major banks refused to finance American businesses, for growth and jobs, what better way to get America back to work? Let the major banks go and finance China's development, we'll go about our business of rebuilding a better America without the help of the greedy, bailed-out Banks and Corporations.
What were those words, concerning deficits, by that illustrious leader of the previous administrations, Cheney the Chump: "You know, Paul, Reagan proved deficits don't matter," he said, according to excerpts. There you have it, out of the mouth of two, not one, but two sycophants, Republican fiscal experts, Raygun and Chump Cheney. What better blessings can you get, then the nod from these experts, to proceed with the re-building of America. Oh, I know we can count on the obstructionism of the Republican-Libertarian-T.Baggers, but that is the purpose of proposing the national project. We can re-build America, getting America back to work and to show, once again the anti-American streak running down the backs of the Republican-Libertarian-T.Baggers. If they are true Americans, then so was that cretin, Tim McVeigh!!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

PFUTZ,

What did BO inherit from President Bush? - a 7.7% unemployment rate. Oh for the good old days.

Ethan, I would like to take a crack at your question. It is not the cheese. It is also not the Brewers, the Bucks, or the Packers.

Senator Feingold has been a very reliable liberal senator for quite some time. I think that we can call him a Liberal icon of the Senate. Wisconsin has, I would say, a long history of progressivism that goes back to Senator LaFollette circa 1916, or so. I would also say that Wisconsin tends to embrace socialists and communists. Not being overly critical, just stating the history. The University of Wisconsin is quite liberal even by university standards. The bottom line is this ~ democrats should NOT be losing in Wisconsin. Ever.

It would truly be a bad message to the democrat regime if Senator Feingold were to come in 2nd place in the Badger State.

Well, that would be the Django theory with a little history thrown in as support. Jeremiah Wright, would not know anything about that, which gives him that special quality of useless.

Django, Thanks for the heads up. I always knew that UWM was the Berkeley of the midwest, but it seems to me that the last place the POTUS should need to go is Wisc. (given its rich and illustrious history).

Given Senator Feingold's actions (see Swamp headlines today) and Senator Kohl's dislike for Obama, I am really surprised that he would insist on being there. If Obama is perceived to be a liability, why on earth would Obama go to Wisconsin just to piss on two of his affiliated party base? Again, what the hell is going on up there?
